I find Curt's lessons very helpful. How does one remember all this you learn when you are the bridge table.

Defense is fun! It's one of my favorite parts of the game even when I err.

defense is considered the most difficult part of the game, yet the robots always seem to do it perfectly when I play against them

Board 3 bidding indicated long Diamonds in Declarer's hand. On Board 2 Responder's 2C bid was 2/1 GF and not necessarily a strong or long Club suit. Thus, the need tobei aggressive on opening lead was not as obvious as on Board 3.

A small doubleton lead is not bad in an unbid suit. It is simply another passive lead. The most important factor on this hand is not to lead dummy's suit. The spade is not that bad. The board wins and leads a diamond. A trump lead is a disaster if dummy's clubs can be established. As you noted, the defenders can recover after a spade lead.

What these hands show is that you need to think everything out

I thought in duplicate pairs you should normally lead passively?

It's bridge so there is never an exact answer....just guidelines.

Very good, but terms like "lead away" and "underlead" should be explained.
