I was going to get rid of my front loading washing machine. After watching your video and learned that my washer was beneficial. I know that my towels and sheets are lasting long time for sure as well as other clothes. Thanks
I had a Swedish made "Electro-Helios" washing machine in the late 70's and it suited me perfectly. It was a top-loaded horizontal axis drum (like a front loader) and it suited me perfectly. It washed clean and fluff-free as front-loaders always do better, but (unlike front-loaders) you could always stop it simply by lifting the top-lid and add what ever was forgotten.
After opening the lid you rolled the inside drum by hand until you could open two "barn-doors" and chuck something extra inside.
Then it could just keep going washing again. Sadly I left it behind in Uppsala when moving to Australia, never to be seen again. That was ~50 years ago and many my washers later I never had a better one... Nothing close...
When we got to an appliance center and were about to buy a front load washing machine, the sales agent mentioned that it requires a circuit breaker, telling us that a front load washing machine has a higher need for electricity, which sounds like hassle and inconvenient to us, which is why we decided to go for a top load washing machine. A top-load washing machine does not need a dedicated circuit breaker, and that got me.
A good summary on top load v. front load. Need to be more objective than subjective. I.e. instead of saying more efficient, why not say this used 10 gallons of water and that used 8 gallons of water.

Which are cheaper in Germany? I was there in Hamburg last year but never noticed the price of washers...
Great info, very well presented. Suggest doing an updated version that also includes top loaders with no traditional agitator. And perhaps include additional advantages and disadvantages and how manufacturers are attempting to mitigate them.

The PRICE! Front load washing machines are Simply More Expensive than their TOP LOAD Counterparts. Period!
Hence you have to operate for may be 20 t0 30 years to match the cost..... I don't know that long your front loader or top loader will be alive : )

front loaders, most of them costs double that of a top loader. But I notieced less vibration from front loaders. But the capacity wise now a days top loaders comes in big sizes, a 10 kg top loader costs the same as a 6 kg front load m/c.

In front loading machine one can not wet the clothes like bed sheets overnight. So soap can remove all dirt as in top loading machine. I use only WASH PROGRAMME on top load washing machine to do so.
I prefer top load washer.

No front loading washing machines are much more economical and use less electricity and water too and they are best for getting laundry washed

My semi automatic top load is 9 years old and still running. I don't think front load is really advantageous just because it's energy efficient and slightly more compact. I think it depends upon person to person. But economically, it is just double the price where i feel it's not worth it.

Its not top load vs front load, it’s more like top load cons and front load pros. I mean if you are comparing each other don’t focus on front load advantages while disregarding the advantage of top load, in fact all i heard was negative feedbacks about top load

Nice video. But one observation I think top load washing machines now a days has no agitators.
Though very informative comparison between Top load and front load, some trouths concerning the top load are not valid for those of the European technology..
The European school have them rotate on horizontal axle, with opening door on to the the basket.
Can you please include that version to your analysis, because the top load you mentioned is an old American school completely outdated.
From EU here, we only use this top loaded with horizontal axis because they are smaller. They are less effective in the average than the front.
The american top loaded aren't used for decade.

There is much less vibration in FL machines during spinning cycle and clothes comes out dryer. Also you can stack a dryer on top of the FL machine if floor space is limited.

Spinning the entire drum in front loaders uses more power than just spinning the agitator .also the agitators in top loaders is way smaller now

I think there is a correction in your video regarding the power requirement. Front load machines uses much more power, roughly 4 times that of top load machines. I have seen front load machines rated at 2kW when most top load machines are mostly rated 300-400 W

I said there are front loads which takes upto 2kW, not all front loads take 2kW. I have seen these machines and thus commenting. Top loads mostly never go beyond 400W.

Better to do Hand Washing to wash the New clothes with soft liquids like Comfort or with Downey.The Rinse and Spin Cycles are enough for unstrained clothes.HandWashing The Strained Clothes with Soap is better to remove the strains.The Washing Machine is just to do Gentle washing .To save Water and Electricity its better to reduce the usage of Machines either it is Toploader or Frontloader.Manual washing of New Clothes is better to maintain the clothes and its Buttons and some Design works.Any type of Machine is better to be kept in a strong stand instead of keeping in the floor to avoid the damage of pipes.

I fixe washing machine and durability for front load are arrond 10 year maximum compare to good top load that can leave for 25 year and more and cost lest to fixe and clean better
