  • The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) in the Free State is optimistic that the province will retain its number one spot in the country when the 2023 matric results come out, despite the death of Education MEC Tate Makgoe in March last year. Sadtu believes that the Free State's outstanding academic performances are the result of the groundwork laid by teachers and not just government officials. More than 35 000 full-time learners and over 8 000 part-time learners in the province, wrote their final examinations last year. The Free State has been the leading province with top matric results for four years in succession. Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga will this evening release the much anticipated National Senior Certificate results for the class of 2023 in Randburg north of Johannesburg.
