David, Another great blog! We love our Dish and Wally setup on our coach. We have the Winegard in-motion satellite dome mounted on the roof of the coach. It works exactly as you described in your video. Since it is an in-motion dome we could use it while traveling down the road but since there’s just my wife and I, kids are grown and on their own, we never use the in-motion feature. We hooked up an external hard drive to our coaches Wally which allows us to use the DVR feature but one thing we found, unlike the Hopper at our home, we can only record one channel at a time on the Wally. We also can’t record a channel while watching another channel on Dish using the Wally and the DVR feature. I’m guessing it’s due to the Wally only having one tuner or due to a limitation to the in-motion dome. The local channels are a really nice feature on the Wally but if you link it to your home Dish setup as an add on rather than a pay as you go standalone account all of your receivers change locations if you update your account to be say in Dallas but your home is in northern IL. This means any recordings you’ve scheduled on your home Hopper which might use the local northern IL channels to record are going to potentially not work since the Dallas shows are not on the same satellite or not allowed to be viewed back home since you’ve updated your location as Dallas, TX. (Hopefully that makes sense. 😉) We find leaving the locals as is for home works better for us. We then use the Dish Anywhere app over WiFi to remotely watch the recorded shows on our coach TV. Of course this means you have to have WiFi to be able to stream the content to your coach from your S/B home Hopper. We normally don’t do streaming over campground WiFi because of limited bandwidth in the campground, rules of the use of campground WiFi and just being a good campground neighbor so as not to try and suck up all the available network in the campground so others can’t use it. Thanks for all your blogs, you’re a huge help and I enjoy all your videos! Safe travels, tell Brenda I said Hi an give Loki a hug. I hope your training is going well with Loki!!
Hi Jeff... You are correct on all counts of the linkling of the Wally to an current account. I did not mention that in the video as I did not want to confuse people. I have flagged your detailed comment to stay at the top to help other understand that. Thank you again.
I have been told the handle (or the two cutouts for the handle) has to face south. After watching your video it appears it really doesn't matter where you place the antenna or what position it's in. This includes Dish tech support. First he told me the coax input has to face north. Then he said put handle facing south. I'm glad you pulled the cover off as to show us how it works. Many thanks! Great vid and presentation.
DISH tech support needs to be retrained to tell people how to really setup this system, absolutely no information in receiver boxes on proper procedure. There is no mention of how to orient the dish on ground, with a white dome you cant see anything moving, in most cases you have to bypass the rv port and run the coax thru the door directly to the receiver input to ensure a 12V DC current gets to the dish to initially power the dish for azimuth and elevation. After the dish locks on and you start getting channels, turn off TV and run the coax back to input of rv and turn TV back on.

I’m a new full time RVer and bought my Playmaker as soon as I heard about it. It’s so easy to hook up and to load up when I move to my next spot! I love it! Thanks for the great video!
Thanks so much for sharing!! I’ve been a Dish customer since 1997. We just purchased our first 5th Wheel in preparation to start traveling full time! I think this is the system we need since we won’t be watching TV going down the road! Appreciate the information. Love your videos.
I don't see why not. NOTE...When you change the locals, this will change them for ALL receivers. So the ones at home may not get local service if it is not within the spot beam. So if no one is home...no big deal. But if so...well...that can be an issue. :)
Great video .... I'm thinking of purchasing one (unless I win one... hint hint) but not sure it's exactly what I need. Can you tell me if it is better mounted on my roof or on the tripod on the ground? Can I set it on the roof without mounting? Is the group all I need to have or do I have to buy something else? What is pay as you go? (cost per month or what you use) By the way, I own a 2015 Keystone Passport travel trailer with just one TV.
I have a 2009 RV where the back of the original TV is very hard to get to. If you do, the cable from the Wally would have to be rerun through the RV to the cabinet where the TV connections are. Given the age of my system, my connections are not HDMI. Is there a connection option for an RG6 coxial cable to run from the Wally to the back of the TV?
Awesome David ! We have a traveler but got stuck under trees three times this week. That would work really good for us. Thanks for the demo. Contest ? Hi Brenda .
I had one installed when I bought our RV but have yet to turn it on and try it. I am not sure but I believe that we can add the Wally to our existing account for an additional $10 a month???
Since we have Dish at home we get service in our RV for an additional $7.00 per month, plus tax. The tax will vary slightly depending on where you have your local channels set. One thing I don't like is that if you have a home account and add a mobile device, you cannot change local programming with their app - you need to call each time. Not a huge deal, but it would be easier if we could use the app.
My husband and I rarely watch the same channels. However, I have heard it may not be worth it to get 2 boxes because if my channel is on a satellite that Joe's Rodeo is not on we will still have to watch the same channel or get 2 different satellite receivers and I m not doing that. Have you heard of people with 2 different boxes having this trouble???
Don't forget that if you want to get the local stations that is an extra cost as well as different packages for sports, news and others-still a good system though
Hi Dave, so you were very helpful a couple of months ago with a question we had and I’m hoping you can help again. We are really close to getting the Coach (Tiffin Phaeton, which will come pre wired for the Winegard Trav’ler) and we are trying to finalize which TV Provider to go with. Kind of a long question (s) sorry! We currently have Directv at home and according to Winegard we can of course take our current programming to the Coach with the addition of a HR24 Receiver and a couple of genies. We could simply use equipment from our house but we do not want to have to move the equipment every time we go so we prefer to spend the xtra monies and have the Coach have its own dedicated equipment. Or we can go ahead and change to Dish (we have a local store that will work with us and set up the house and also the Coach once we get it but we have to buy all the equipment upfront and still pay the receiver/Joey fees monthly. This route will cost slightly more money but it maybe worth it just to have local dealer do it. Also moving forward they offered a Concierge Service.. so we would just deal with them if we had issues or questions, etc. So to my questions ... 1. Satellite Equipment, according to Winegard if I buy the DirectV SK-SWM3 and add a $300 kit to change it to DISH, we will have more flexibility in case at some point we want to go back to DirectV? While if we buy the Winegard SK-1000, it can only be used with DISH. Is this true? Also Winegard rep said that in terms of local channels, with DirecTV, you cannot get them outside of a 150 mile radius from your home service. While with DISH... per your videos, you can just change them in the app. Agree? 2. Winegard rep los Recommended equipment to go with DirecTV for Coach is HR24 and a couple of wired minis and the Hopper 3/Joeys for DISH. What’s are your thoughts on this? 3. We are leaning towards DISH ... accessibility of local channels, convenient local service, turn on/off pay as you on equipment... but do I get the Trav’ler for DirecTV or the one dedicated for DISH.....your thoughts? 4. We are planning on having our Tiffin Denver dealer install the Satellite Winegard unit .... are we thinking right on this too? Thank you so much and sure hope you guys are enjoying Spring time! JulieD
Sorry for the the delay. In a nut shell...Just Switch it all to Dish and be done with it. AT&T is more or less dropping DirecTV more or less as the customer base has dropped off for them SO MUCH. You are better off with a Dish Hopper 3 and then using Joeys, even wireless Joeys, as needed. You can then move it to the coach when you travel and then update the LOCALS address when you get somewhere new. (So you get the local networks for news and weather.) Seeing the Hopper 3 has 16 tuners, you surely can record anything you would want. Just make sure when you move and update the locals, you also update what you want to record as they are likely on a different channel. (Example...ABC may be on channel 13 in one place and channel 8 in another.) OR...TOP...You can use the SEARCH and search for shows and set them to record off any channel. (New only as you do not want old shows that may be syndicated on another channel.) Then you do not need to update your DVR. Hope this makes sense. Good Luck! RVingly Yours! David
@@davidbott5438 thank you... no worries on timing. We actually are having DISH install today thru our local dealer that will also allows us to have (buy equipment from them) an additional hopper3 and two joeys in Coach. We got our Coach on 4-8-21 and still trying to figure things out so we have not set up the Trav’ler yet. We were going to have dealer install then have the local guys install equipment in Coach but we have changed our minds... not very confident about the Dealer’s ability to do this... when we got the Coach they said we have an in motion Winegard T4 Dish and Wally! We do have a Wally that came with the Phaeton but according to Tiffin we fo not have any antenna on the unit. So we are thinking the best person to install The Trav’ler is Nick Brewer in AL.... is a long haul for us from Durango but maybe worth it! Can’t find anyone around here to do it! Thank you again for your help, happy travels!
Hi David, a couple of questions... we just ordered a new MotorCoach (is going to be a few weeks before we get it) and we choose to add the Winegard Connect (wifi router) and the Traveler Satellite Pre-Wire options. We currently have Direct TV (Genies system) but have decided we should probably move to Dish (hopper/Joey) because we like the “pay as you go” system... THANK YOU, for helping to add that option with Dish. We have been reading and watching videos to figure out best options for equipment. We do have a couple of questions we hope you can help with. 1. We live in the mountains and spend a lot of times in them camping... we think we want the roof mounted equipment (don’t want to mess with set ups every time we stop), do you have a suggestion as to what we should consider? We have 4 TV’s in Coach. We prefer to watch recorded programming vs live... hate commercials...lol 2. Read that in order to have a “higher end DVR” we probably should install a “residence” DVR (multiple tuners) in Coach instead of the receiver that they offer for RV because it’s a single tuner? Any suggestions in this area? 3. As an FYI, we are hoping to have needed it equipment ready for when coach is delivered so the RV Dealer can install all the equipment or our local Dish dealer. Are we on the right track? Thank you,
Hi...You would wanted to go with the Winegard Travl'ier for DISH. It supports the Hooper 3 out of the box now and has 16 tuners. You then can use Joey's at the other locations if you need to. Not sure how the coach is wired for TV, but they do offer WIRELESS Joeys that will connect over it's own network via its own access point. Very easy to install. You will want to be sure to buy the gear and not just rent it from DISH if you are going to use the Pay As You Go plan. Also want to get the DISH app so you can change your location so you can receive local channels when you are away from your area. Because it is pre-wired for it, you should be good to go. If you choose to install it yourself...be aware, it is heavy to get it on to the roof. :)
@@DavidBott Thank you so much. Yes, we are planning on having an expert install. The wireless option should work. It we did order a Tiffin so my guess is that it’s pre-wired too. Will continue to check out your videos and learn some more... again THANK YOU!
Thanks for the video and setup walk through for the Playmaker. We just got our first 43 foot Fifth-Wheel RV and are researching what additions we need to get it on the road next spring. We like the Pay-when-you-want-it Dish options and the Playmaker X2 seems like a good choice for our needs and travel plans. Does it make any difference if you have a good cell signal or not for this operation? I ask because I know we also need to consider getting a cell booster and wondered if that would enhance this setup or if they are completely separate signals that have nothing to do with each other.
Nice Question! Totally separate things however please note that in order to set your currently location using the APP, you must have Internet access somehow on your phone. Otherwise, you will need to call DISH to update your location. So Internet on your phone either via your provider or via RV Parks Wi-Fi if they have it. But the Playmaker will work with or without cell service. Note..If you are in a bad area for cell service, you could just drive somewhere to get better service and then use the APP to set the location and that will still work as the "spot beams" are 10's if not in some cases hundreds of Sq miles wide. :)
Great video. I’m looking for a receiver and antenna combination that will allow me to record on one channel while I’m watching on another. My limited research tells me the Hopper 3 is a good Dish Network choice. What I’m still trying to figure out is if there is an “affordable” option for an antenn
Hi, the Hooper 3 is your only choice for that and the choice comes down to setting up a dish each time you get somewhere, or spending the money for a Winegard Trav'ler automatic dish. Surely not cheep...but we love it.
David, I have a Playmaker Dual with two Wallys. The TV in the living room works perfect but after a month of trying to get the bedroom Wally to work, I'm at my wit's end. I have tried multiple times to get help from Dish and they can't solve the problem. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi...I am sorry to read of your issue. I am also sorry to say I have not used the dual system at all so I would be hard pressed to help. The one thing is that it can only point to one sat at a time and thus you can only tune the channels on that sat. When using two receivers, well, if both are try to be used on two different channels, only one will work if the channels are are different sats. You did not mention what your issue actually was, so I am just tossing that infi out their. :) You may also care to try to give Winegard a call. They are the makers of the unit... winegard.com/industry/marine/satellite-tv/dish-playmaker/dish-playmaker-dual-white
Oh I could so use the Playmaker right now here in NE with my MIL......our In-Motion is from 2009 and is not picking up my programming....Hope I win this... :)
A few years ago we had a family friend give us a king flex dish Satellite 2014 model we wanted to know if it was capable with our new wally, we have tried to set it up and it tells us it has failed, what our we doing wrong, are wally is new
my Wally doesn't make it this far! It gets stuck at "6 minutes remaining" for installation and at that point states "Installation failed" and my remote control doesn't work at all even though on the screen it says "remote paired".
That's a great vid Dave as im in the process of getting rid of a Weingard carry out that came with my toyhauler last week, the people used it recently but had directv , am i correct in thinking and being told that that model gm 1518 won't work with dish after 2016? Also im looking at a tailgator or playmaker and wally for a new setup , is either one of those better than the other? Thanks again
@@cynthial.guzman4727 Not really as it is meant for one receiver as it can only access one Sat at a time. In other words, one receiver may be looking to access chanel that have be on one sat and then the other receiver may be looking access a channel on another sat and the unit can only look at one sat at a time.
if a person is in another state and programs in the local channels will that also change a persons home receiver channels and disrupt your programmed channels that are to record at home ?
The system would work if you have a clear view of the sky for the sats, but without data, no way to set your location other than to call it into DISH. So if you can call it in, you surely could use it.
Dave Would I be able to pay as I go with a mounted tailgater dome and two Wallys? My new coach came with a technology package.. But we’ve yet to even try to get it up and running 🤦🏻♂️ But pay as you go has caught my attention.. Thanks
Hello David, what's the difference from the dish you have on this video to the DISH Tailgater Pro, or Pathway X2? Is it the price and able to connect 2 TV's and/or the signal will be better on them? Price is different too....
You know, I am sorry to say I am not 100% sure on the main differences other than size as I never tested the other units. I asked for this one as I had received questions on getting football from a number of people. "We want to go camping, but how can I get football?" So Playmaker with the Wally was the one I asked for and tested in NY and Texas and then made the video as it was the smallest way to go for something easy to setup.
Hi David great job I have the playmaker and the w ally . I have a tech question I have a American dream with curved roof would like to mount on roof does dish need to be mounted flat or will it also work on the radius thanks
I obviously came here because we are having issues with ours. we just got it and it goes through every step in the set up until the downloadong software and then it gets stuck on that screen.. we are also in East tx
Great blog.....We just got one, going to mount it on the roof and use the old cable off the wing. Does anybody make a A B outdoor switch??? thanks again
I think it was 25 feet. But it is just a coaxial cable so you can surely get one 100' if you wanted and be fine. BUT this is not an IN MOTION dish, so putting it in a tree will not help when the tree sways.
That would depend on what apps you use. DISH may or may not have the APP you use and not to mention, DISH is a service and not a streaming service. (For the most part.) Not to menton, if you want to stream, you will need Internet.
I just got the dish playmaker and Wally but I can’t get it to finish the test installation part of the setup. It fails at the 6 minutes remaining mark. I can see the dish move around looking for the satellite but after several tries it still won’t go past that point. I’ve tried to move the dish to other areas and made sure the handle faced North, unplugged and restarted the Wally receiver to reboot and still get the same thing. Could it be because it’s cloudy? I’m directly connected from the dish to the receiver. Tech support had me on hold over an hour then I got cut off. Each time I called back I was on hold again over an hour then disconnected.
I realize this is an old comment but I am having the same issue today brand new playmaker going camping tomorrow . Any advice please? I wan calling tech in the morning .
That would depend on the wiring in the coach/RV. In our coach I can use ONE and have is playing on any of the 3 TV's. Only an issue however if we want to both watch something different at the same time on DISH which never happens with us though. Then we would need a Joey. But you can not use two tuners on a Sat Dome setup as only one can be the controller.
@@vonster49 Sorry, not something I can answer as I have no idea on current rates. This video was from long ago but "I Think" the code we can still works. But for sure check on current subscription pricing.
It might be nice to let people how hard it is to use two TVs on one satellite antenna. I find it necessary to use a separate satellite antenna for each Wally. If you don’t it becomes very frustrating.
App will not work just as other apps will not that require the internet. But you can call into DISH before you go, if you know you will not have ANY cell service (There is a difference between having phone and data...you may have phone but no data.) If you have phone service and not data service, just DISH when you get somewhere to update it. Or if you know you will not have either, then call before you leave and let them know.
Thanks Dave great job as always. Do you know if dish has a program similar to Direct TVs NFL Sunday Ticket so if I'm traveling out of my local area I can still watch my Patriots play
Hi...They have the NFL RedZone where you can see all the major plays of every game live. If someone is in the RedZone (within 20 yards) then the game is shown. If not, it is all the other main plays going on. It's actually really cool. (IMHO) More Info Here... www.dish.com/programming/channels/nfl-redzone/

We prefer to watch recorded programming vs live... hate commercials...lol
You will need to wait to find out the details on how to maybe win then. Info coming soon...working out the details with DISH.
Will this dish operate 2 Wally’s for 2 TV’s.?
A few years ago we had a family friend give us a king flex dish Satellite 2014 model we wanted to know if it was capable with our new wally, we have tried to set it up and it tells us it has failed, what our we doing wrong, are wally is new
Yes very cool dish
my Wally doesn't make it this far! It gets stuck at "6 minutes remaining" for installation and at that point states "Installation failed" and my remote control doesn't work at all even though on the screen it says "remote paired".
Does it say reception error?
@@FetaCheeseFarts I got it figured out! Thanks!
Do you have to buy their$59 over the air tuner to get the locals? Or is there an extra charge for local channels?
I really want to buy this, but the place I want to use doesn’t have any cell service. No idea how I could get it set up.
Best explanation for a “Joe “ like me thanks amgo
Dave, we want it. We have very few local channels. Had a king antenna installed, very disappointed in the reception. We want football & Baseball! Thx
Can I carry my Dish DVR from the living room to the camper and have it control the Playmaker and not have to pay more to Dishnetwork?
Not if it is a Hopper as the Playmaker does not support the Hopper.
Will it support a Joey with the Wally?
@@cynthial.guzman4727 Not really as it is meant for one receiver as it can only access one Sat at a time. In other words, one receiver may be looking to access chanel that have be on one sat and then the other receiver may be looking access a channel on another sat and the unit can only look at one sat at a time.
I wish I had one of those😊 great video I like it
if a person is in another state and programs in the local channels
will that also change a persons home receiver channels and disrupt your programmed channels that are to record at home ?
Hi Dave, Question...where i hunt, there is no cell coverage. No service etc. sooo, this Satellite would not work ???
The system would work if you have a clear view of the sky for the sats, but without data, no way to set your location other than to call it into DISH. So if you can call it in, you surely could use it.
DISH Network is only available in the US. "Dish delivers TV service to homes in the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the USVI"
Question! We get everything. However we don't do apps on our phone.
How can we set this up when we are on the road without a phone app?
You would need to call into DISH via phone. Do you have a tablet that has internet access? If so, you could use that.
Dave
Would I be able to pay as I go
with a mounted tailgater dome
and two Wallys? My new coach
came with a technology package..
But we’ve yet to even try to get it
up and running 🤦🏻♂️
But pay as you go has caught
my attention..
Thanks
I do think you can John.
Great video dude.. Told me everything I needed. Mine has shipped and will receive it in 3 more days...
🌷 is this covered any satellite or area in the world? africa as example?
DISH is just in the US.
@@DavidBott Thanks
Confused, if you don't have a Dish and Wally, then how do you watch TV?
Oh, sorry...I have a Winegard Trav'ler and a DISH Hopper 3. A larger setup. It is one of the ones that come up off the roof when you arrive.
So glad you took the high road concerning Andrew Steel.. He is wrong to do what he's doing to you.. That needs to be private! Period!!
Robert Calvin Brown Totally agree. Read my post.
I know you said clear sky, but does that also pertain to cloud's
Can I use my vip211z controller with my new playmaker
Hi David great job I have the playmaker and the w ally . I have a tech question I have a American dream with curved roof would like to mount on roof does dish need to be mounted flat or will it also work on the radius thanks
Flat is really the best way as it needed to have the proper skew angles.
Can this system be used in the philippine?
How cam I register for the free bundle from David Bott?
I obviously came here because we are having issues with ours. we just got it and it goes through every step in the set up until the downloadong software and then it gets stuck on that screen.. we are also in East tx
Great blog.....We just got one, going to mount it on the roof and use the old cable off the wing. Does anybody make a A B outdoor switch??? thanks again
Looking into buying one, not sure about it, but you have helped. Be better to win one!
Awesome!!!👠🚌👠
How long of a wire do u get. I've got trees but I can climb 75 feet to post my satilite if need be
I think it was 25 feet. But it is just a coaxial cable so you can surely get one 100' if you wanted and be fine. BUT this is not an IN MOTION dish, so putting it in a tree will not help when the tree sways.
Question I have a Amazon Fire stick do I still need to use it with dish ?
That would depend on what apps you use. DISH may or may not have the APP you use and not to mention, DISH is a service and not a streaming service. (For the most part.) Not to menton, if you want to stream, you will need Internet.
Always love watching you guys... God Bless
Where do you get the over the air tuner?
I had to send this link, to my parent, to get and got the URL wrong, there's other you tubes, not the ones I need 😂,
I just got the dish playmaker and Wally but I can’t get it to finish the test installation part of the setup.
I wan calling tech in the morning .
do you need a Wally for each tv in the RV. We have 3. two inside and one outside.
Thank you great video
How much is the subscription for the service
@@vonster49 Sorry, not something I can answer as I have no idea on current rates. This video was from long ago but "I Think" the code we can still works. But for sure check on current subscription pricing.
Was very informative sold me
What if you don't have internet or wifi for the app?
I know it`s an old video but maybe someone could tell me, When he says Clear view of the sky does that mean no tree limbs ?
You might be able to get away with some limbs, all depends on how thick. But you really do want a clear view without obstruction.
Another great review David. I need to get one for our seasonal site.
Good info. Thank you.
It might be nice to let people how hard it is to use two TVs on one satellite antenna. I find it necessary to use a separate satellite antenna for each Wally. If you don’t it becomes very frustrating.
What happens with the app if you don’t have cell service?
App will not work just as other apps will not that require the internet. But you can call into DISH before you go, if you know you will not have ANY cell service (There is a difference between having phone and data...you may have phone but no data.) If you have phone service and not data service, just DISH when you get somewhere to update it. Or if you know you will not have either, then call before you leave and let them know.
Outstanding
Thanks Dave great job as always. Do you know if dish has a program similar to Direct TVs NFL Sunday Ticket so if I'm traveling out of my local area I can still watch my Patriots play
Hi...They have the NFL RedZone where you can see all the major plays of every game live. If someone is in the RedZone (within 20 yards) then the game is shown. If not, it is all the other main plays going on. It's actually really cool. (IMHO) More Info Here... www.dish.com/programming/channels/nfl-redzone/
Quite informative and very entertaining.
How can we get Wi-Fi?
Just subscribed.we are kind of new and working towards snowbirding more than 2 months out of the year in Florida. This video was very helpful and hey if you want to give one away, I sure wouldn’t say no😉😉😉
No, we don't know u have it set on your motor coach
Good job
Dish dropped fox sports. Is dish the satellite to use?
They have been for me. I seem like DirecTV is losing customers left and right.
Local FOX, FS1, FS2, Big10 Network, FOX Soccer + and FOX Deportes are back on DISH!!!
all i want is internet, will this do that?
No, it is video only.
Great explanation! Thanks man
Excellent description
Is there any reason I couldn't use this on my house?
You could...Not sure why you would want to as it can only look at one sat at a time. Much better off with a dish and MUCH cheaper.
Can it work in Jamaica 🇯🇲?
I don't think so. Sorry.
