I saw another video where they built the wall on floor like you did but the bottom plate was furthest from the wall. They lifted the top of the wall up into position and tapped the bottom until level. They said it's a great way to avoid all those obstacles hanging lower than the floor joists. If you not done framing already it might be worth a try.
Thanks for sharing. For the first stud, why did you come in 15 and 1/4 in from the end of the bottom plate? That's 16 on center would have a stud flush with the end of the bottom plate and then just mark 16 in in from the end of the bottom plate to indicate the nearest edge of the next stud.
Thanks for the comment! This is because I'm marking out the edge of the second stud not the center. The stud is 1 1/2" thick. If you add 3/4" to 15 1/4", you get 16" to the center of the stud, which is what you want. I hope this answered your questions adequately.
Might be a stupid question….but if there is a 2 inch gap between the concrete wall and the studs for the wall would you still need to put foam board against the concrete?
when installing a wall along the floor joist where the floor joist is 8 inches from your wall how do you secure your top plate to the top? You said you didn’t have to worry about that in your video, but I have to worry about it. Can you help?
Isn’t a 16d nail to big for the top plate? The I joist and 2x4 are 1.5 inches each so 3 inches total. And the 16d is 3.25. Doesn’t the nail stick out of the I joist unless you nailed dead center into the webbing, I’m no expert by my understanding Is not the shoot from bottom into webbing. Great video i haven’t framed since helping my grandpa 20 years ago when i was 17 it was with old school 2x6. My house is I joist like your basement.

Possibly! Thanks for the tip. I probably wasn't thinking clear in the moment. Haha
Thank you for sharing this information. I am going to remodel the basement soon. This was a great video.
More to come! I just ran 250ft of 14-2 today!
Great job. Like all details.
Thanks!

I would think only if you want the insulation. Seems you would have nice airflow with a gap like that.
@ awesome thank you so much!
@cubsfan754 No problem. Be sure to check building codes in your area to be safe.
Nice video. Very helpful.
Great!
Great video brother!
Appreciate it!
Looong forward to this series!!
Great! I'm on episode 5. Get all caught up!
Looking great, keep the videos coming!!!
Thanks! Will do!
Did you keep the studs an 1” or so off the foam board or go against the foam?
I just put it right against it. An air gap would be fine too.

Great question. Sorry I didn't cover that. You just need to add 2x4 blocking in between the joists in a few places to nail to.
Help! I’ve already framed but forgot to add the 2in j rigid foam 😢
I replyed to another one of your comments on another video. You might need to go with a spray foam contractor.
What do you do if the floor is out more then 1/8 that you subtracted for the studs that you made smaller.
Just use some shims or just nail them to the floor joists. It's ok if there is a small gap above the top plate. Thanks for the comment!

Yes, you're right, the nail would technically stick out a little occasionally. I wasn't too worried about that though. Thanks for the comment
🎉🎉❤
Thanks.
But I thought walls were racist?
Woah! Where did that come from!?
