    Another pair that could have been included here are two North American birds of prey, the Great Horned Owl and Red-tailed Hawk. The rivalry between these two is on the level of lions and hyenas and when one finds the other they don't hesitate to attack and try to kill the other. While other hawks and owls like the Barred Owl and Red-shouldered Hawk frequently share a territory and generally leave each other alone, the same cannot be said about the Great Horned Owl and Red-tailed Hawk.

    Another rivalry we can think of is between primates (especially monkeys) and snakes. Snakes are literally the reason monkeys and apes have evolved tri-colored vision. Snakes will try to hunt young monkeys, but adult monkeys can and will mob upon snakes. Primates can identify snakes from very blurred images as suggested by research at Nagoya University. A few species of monkeys also have the venom resistance seen in mongooses, though not as powerful. And, standoffs between snakes and monkeys are more of an even fight. And technically snakes can be seen as enemies for many types of smart mammals like weasels, badgers, cats, etc.

    • @peterasp1968
      @peterasp1968 9 месяцев назад +7

      A sloth bear is a smaller animal vs. the Tiger. And its only weapons are it's 3.5" claws and a very shaggy coat, which frustrates the tiger from getting a clean bite on its neck. Sloth bears are insecticides and are generally mild natured except when a mother is defending her young. Then, she will charge tigers and even elephants.

    • @matthewzito6130
      @matthewzito6130 9 месяцев назад +6

      A tiger will try to sneak up on a sloth bear and attack it from behind, pulling it down and immediately getting it by the throat. If all goes well for the tiger, it's over quickly without much of a fight. However, if the sloth bear senses the tiger and turns to face it, the situation changes dramatically. An alert, angry sloth bear is very dangerous, even for a tiger. Any major injury could prevent the tiger from hunting successfully. Meanwhile, bears have more endurance than big cats, so a long fight would greatly favor the bear.

      @@matthewzito6130south east Asia has the smallest tigers often only 150-200kg at most. So the sloth bear that weighs around 200-300kg is a even fight.however a full grown royal Bengal or Amur tiger would make short work of a sloth bear.

    Here's one pair I've heard of, the Cougar and the Grey Wolf. Like the Lion and the Hyena there is a great deal of overlap between the Wolves and Cougars in North America when it comes to prey. They are both aggressive towards each other and when a Cougar sees a lone Wolf they'll usually chase them off, and when a pack comes across a Cougar with a kill they chase them off.

    Can i also add and corerct me if im wrong and here's another good example of natural eneimes in the late cretaceous tyrannosaurus has two natural eneimes that i know of.
    one being triceratops its 10ft tall and has a 1 meter (3.3 ft) horn and its lenght is around 26-30 ft (8-9 meters) and weight about 12 tons (10.9 metric tons)? and if the tyrannosaurus not careful the trike could kill by impaling the apex it was fast on its feet and could stand it's ground it also has a defensive frill to block attacks.
    Second is ankylosaurus its just a living tank and its about 20-26 ft (6-7.9 meters) and weighed about 4.8 and 8 metric tons and it has tough body armor and a really deadly clubed tail and if anky could swipe or swing its tail it can bone crushed or break a t.rex bone, but however tyrannosaurus could try to roll it over its back and make a easy meal of it.

    Lion king made famous for battle between hyenas and lions

  • @erikm8372
    @erikm8372 9 месяцев назад +4

    The irony behind hyenas versus lions is that both species are largely female-dominated. Big groups of female hyenas harassing lone male lions. Hyenas, probably even more so. The life of a baby male hyena is more or less cursed, from birth, and his youth is the most stability he’ll likely ever experience.

    • @doktorhyena
      @doktorhyena 9 месяцев назад +11

      This is a very common myth, but a myth no less. Males that stay with their natal clan (so at least 15% of them in most regions) are above any female their mom is above. The reason you see so many lower ranking males is because the majority choose to leave their natal clan, and their mother's social status means nothing to any other clan they may join. So, they aren't really matriarchal, just matrilineal (females pass ranks to offspring) and matrilocal. And yes, they leave voluntarily- they're never kicked out like lions. Female spotted hyenas only force other females out, but that is quite rare.

    06:00 - This isn't completely true. While it's uncommon, some lions, tigers and leopards do become habitual man-eaters. These big cats may exhibit a number of unusual learned behaviors. For example, man-eaters will often abandon their human kills after one meal, rather than returning to feed again later. There are also many accounts of habitual man-eaters ignoring easy prey (like bait animals) in favor of human victims. Finally, there are many cases of both lions and leopards entering tents, huts and even houses to prey on humans.

    I definitely agree with the last 2 (tigers and sloth bears, and lions and spotted hyenas), but not so much with the first 2.. Also, gray wolves, and brown bears could had made the list, and be a better fit...

    There is nothing like the hatred between lions and hyenas. They will go out of there way to attack each other, there were a bunch of lions who were known for hunting down and killing many hyenas simply out of hatred

    They say they can mimic the sounds of prey... seems like all I can find is they can mimic the sambar deer. Can you tell me the other animals they can mimic? I just don't think they have the vocal cords to be able to really truly mimic other animals. Not like crows. Thanks!

    Another one I've heard of from Africa is lions and painted dogs, lions apparently seem to go out of their way to kill them. Also owls and most corvids.

    I'm a little disappointed owls and crows aren't on here because they hate each other on a genetic level like if you put a crow in an owl in the same cage even if they were raised by humans and never met another Crow or owl they will still fight sometimes to the death that's the next level hatred to the point where it becomes instinctual
