Just like Joey Belladonna from Anthrax, Chuck Billy has native American ancestry. There's actually a surprisingly big portion in American Thrash Metal with Hispanic/Latino roots.
Over The Wall, Practice What You Preach, Into The Pit, Electric Crown, Down For Life, Return To Serenity, Souls Of Black, and True Believer are good starters. Testament are STILL one of the best Thrash bands ever. Chuck's voice is definitely legendary. p.s. Chuck Billy is of the Pomo tribe, N. California and those are his people in the video I believe. 🤘❤️🇨🇦
Testament lead singer Chuck Billy is native American (So is Joe Belladonna of Anthrax)... He and guitarist Eric Peterson (who is part-Mexican) have led the band since 1986... This was a newer single from 2012. Hailing from Oakland, California in the early 80's... Eric Peterson was a teenager when he formed the band Legacy and they became a part of the San Francisco thrash metal scene which featured Exodus, Death Angel, and Metallica (from 1983)... Steve 'Zetro' Souza was the band's original vocalist and Legacy became a promising young thrash metal band by 1985... Souza was offered to join Exodus (who had been signed already) by 1986 and he left the band... Chuck Billy (vocals) replaced Souza and the band was signed in 1986 to Atlantic records... the band had to legally change the name to Testament in 1987 and released their debut album 'The Legacy' in 1987. Touring extensively in America and Europe, Testament built a huge following w/ the classic line-up of Peterson, Billy, Alex Skolnick (lead guitar), Greg Christian (bass) and Louie Clemente (drums)... They released classic thrash metal albums - 'The new order' (1988)... 'Practice what you preach' (1989)... 'Souls of black' (1990) ...each album selling over 400K each. By 1992, Testament were burnt out from recording & touring... they wanted the success that Metallica got in 1991 and put out a more laid back album 'The Ritual'... it became their biggest seller, but the band imploded on tour... both Alex Skolnick and Louie Clemente left in '93 and had to be replaced. Testament returned in 1994 w/ a heavy album 'Low' w/ James Murphy (lead guitar)... but the record sold less in the 90's 'grunge rock' decade... The band split w/ Atlantic Records and both Murphy and Greg Christian left by 1996. After settling their contractual disputes, Billy and Peterson recorded a new Testament album 'Demonic' in 1997 w/ death metal vocals and session musicians, released on an indie label and it sold poorly... In 1999, they released 'The Gathering' w/ Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and lead guitarist James Murphy... However, things took a tragic turn by 2001 - Chuck Billy was diagnosed w/ cancer and needed urgent treatment as Testament was put on hiatus... former guitarist James Murphy was also diagnosed w/ cancer and underwent a brain operation. Thankfully, Chuck Billy was able to beat the odds and recover (James Murphy did too) and he took time off before rejoining Testament in 2003 to tour... Soon, offers to reunite the classic Testament brought the line-up of Billy/ Peterson/ Skolnick/ Christian/ Clemente back together to tour in 2005 (Drummer John Tempesta, who played on the 'Low' album was also included)... However, drummer Louie Clemente also left soon after and Paul Bostaph (drums) who played in Slayer, joined for their 2008 comeback album 'The formation of damnation'. Gene Hoglan (drums) joined for the 2012 album 'Dark roots of the Earth'...and Testament saw a huge comeback in terms of popularity and album sales... In 2013, longtime bassist Greg Christian left Testament citing financial disagreements w/ the band; Steve DiGiorgio (bass) joined for the next albums - 'Brotherhood of the snake' (2016) and 'Titans of Creation' (2020)... Gene Hoglan recently announced he had left Testament... Currently, Chuck Billy, Eric Peterson, Alex Skolnick and Steve DiGiorgio are working on a new Testament album w/ new drummer Chris Dovas.
YOU GOT IT MY FRIENNND!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘 Covered mad ground on the thrash connections. All the bands in the cali thrash scene knew each other way before they were known in other states.
I saw Alex Skolnick as a sidekick guitarist of Jane Gettners Prog Band in our little German town Passau at our local Jazz Club… he is a very friendly, down to earth guy and a super virtuous guitar player…had a nice chat (and a beer) with him…I had a blast!
You know your stuff. I heard Return to Serenity on the radio at 17. When Low came out, I loved the sound of many of those songs, Legions, P.C., I personally like James Murphy with them better than Skolnick. Tempesta (not just Low) filled in so many times live over the years, maybe some of the re-mastered or re-recorded stuff in '90s and aughts (?) I heard an interview with Gene Hoglan years ago, he said John Tempesta's style, and if you look at the drum parts he played on Low, and all the other songs he played with them, Hoglan said at the time, Tempesta was such a perfect fit for Testament's music. I haven't kept track of all that stuff over the years, Draw The Line & Sails of Charon I only found out about in more recent years, I haven't looked into the line-ups for everything they recorded (the other than original LP stuff) and live. I used to watch the live performances from Dynamo 2000, songs from Demonic and the Gathering, I believe its Steve Smyth (or Smith) on guitar and Jon Dette on drums, I think there were other times in those years they filled in live, or one a one-off recording. I also love Lombardo with Testament, also a perfect fit. Steve DiGiorgio on bass over Greg Christian is my preference. Good he didn't move on, he's one of those that was in a few bands in the old days. My only gripe is, I'd love to know what kind of sound they'd have all these years with James Murphy instead of Alex. I love Low & The Gathering. I read about James's cancer years ago, he doesn't remember recording The Gathering if I'm not mistaken. Too bad it wasn't him from 1994 on, to me I can hear that difference in the sound on stuff he played on (there was other stuff in the '90s too), he jumped in the comments on one song and wrote that he did or didn't use a slide (I think) in response to other comments he saw 😂.
Testament has been my favorite thrash band since I discovered them, way back from their second album. They deserve to be in the top 4 IMHO, as no other one of the other bands have been as consistent over the years. Trial By Fire, Into The Pit, Over The Wall, Practice What You Preach, Souls Of Black, and from their latest album: Children Of The Next Level, Night Of The Witch, World War III. They seem to be getting better with age!!
Trail of Tears and Allegiance are also dedicated to his native heritage. The band used to be called Legacy in 1986 with a different singer Steve "Zetro" Souza, when Souza left to go to Exodus, Chuck Billy Joined and changed the name to Testament, they made their debut album called The Legacy
Testament was my fourth, wasn't a big Anthrax fan. I was hoping you guys got around to them. I knew a guy in New Mexico who was full blood Navajo and he did say everything in this video still goes on to this day. His reservation has a BIG rule of no drinking. Of you get caught having a single drink they throw you off the reservation. When we all were driving to the hot springs by Santa Fe he said the shacks next to the highway were natives that got hooked on alcohol or drugs. This song came out in 2012
Finally some more TestAmenT! Funnily enough, I was just on a TestAmenT binge last month. Y'all gotta check out "Trail Of Tears" next time, hands down one of TestAmenT's best ballads and it's brought me to tears many times. Nobody writes ballads like TestAmenT! Great video as usual guys! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
INTO THE PIT! Their best song however is BURNT OFFERINGS (original or tuned down remix... love both versions... tuned down sounds a little more with the times)
Morning fellas! Oh man that was so good! Reminds me of this documentary I watched once about a reservation where most of the kids there played in metal bands to pass the time and "stay out of trouble". They even had competitions. I forget what it was called but it was Kool Smokey might wanna check it out,I know you like those documentaries. Lol. Great choice today guys!❤️🤓🎸
Obituary is not up there with the big 4. Maybe you are thinking of Overkill? Obituary is death metal, not thrash. Overkill is thrash. They started in the earlyish to mid 80's. And one little thing I can brag about is I am friends with Overkill's current drummer Jason Bittner. He was/is the drummer for the band Shadow's Fall...

The singer of Testament is Native American and Mexican. His father is from the Pomo tribe of Northern California. Testament formed in 1983 in California...
Testament is a part of the 2nd wave of "big 4" with Exodus, Overkill and Death Angel. You also have the Teutonic Big 4 of thrash with Kreator, Destruction, Sodom and Tankard.
Throughout their career, Testament have also employed some of the top shelf musicians in the thrash genre such as Gene Hogan on drums who has played with dark angel death strapping young lad and many many more and of course Steve digiorgio on bass who pioneered Superfast thrash bass playing in his band Sadus, and has gone on to record incredible and genre defining work with the band Death

I could recommend a dozen different Testament songs, but 'Musical Death (A Dirge)' from 'The New Order' is one of the most powerful instrumentals I've ever heard. Absolute masterpiece of a song.
I got Cherokee from both my parents. My mom's from NC and my dad's from TN. My dad and his father actually had involvement with the tribe when my dad was a kid.
You guys are one of my favourite channels, and I love your genuineness and charm, so never change that! And I know you two are still learning. And you're always learning, so on the spirit of that I need to tell you that every time you guys bring up Obituary amongst discussion of thrash or the big four, a little piece of me dies inside 😂😂 For future ref, Obituary are typically referred to as a Death Metal band. The Big Four of Thrash you already know and love, and they are solidified as Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax due mostly to album sales, fame and influence. However, many bands are claimed to be the '5th member of the big 4' or some would extend it to a 'Big 8'. Many of those other bands include bands which are older or just as important to the development of thrash, such as Exodus, Testament, Overkill, Death Angel and so on. Notice they're all American bands. However, there's also debate about the Canadian Big 4, usually Annihilator, Voivod, Sacrifice and Razor. Plus, the German Big 4 (also known as Teutonic Thrash) - Kreator, Destruction, Sodom And Tankard. And if you were to head to the UK, it might include Sabbat, Onslaught, Acid Reign and Xentrix. Further to this, I heavily recommend you guys react to a series called 'Metal Evolution' hosted by Sam Dunn and made by Banger Films. I imagine RUclips won't allow it but if you could do this on Patreon it would be amazing as 1) nobody reacts to it and 2) it's the most entertaining AND most educational documentary series about the history of metal and will help you guys get accustomed to the ins and outs of all the styles. Keep up the great work and Merry Christmas!
It is so great every time I get to hear Testament. Chuck's supposed to be dead, but instead he's still here, slugging it, singing his guts out for coming up on 40 years. From the immortal "Alone In The Dark" to today, Testament never fails to deliver. Never flinched, not once. Long Live Chuck. Long Live Testament.
Speaking of helping people. The other day while I was on the train taking my bike downtown. I saw a lady struggling to get her bike off the bike rack, so I decided to help her get the bike off, and she said thanks and then got off the train.😊
Awesome finally some Testament! For me personally they are #3 of the big 4. They fit the sound better than another band does and they are originally from the Bay area.
They started in early 80's as Legacy in San Francisco Bay Area. In 86 they changed name to Testament. They are considered part of the big six of the 80s Bay Area Thrash scene. They have also been referred to as part of the " big 8" as well along with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Overkill and Death.
With this video Testament won in 2012 thé award for best music video at the 37th annual American Indian Film Festival. Testament is one of my favourite bands. I recommand you a song from James Murphy " Touching the earth" with Chuck Billy on vocals.
Love Testament!! Personally my big four are Testament, OverKill, Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies. Couple other thrash bands that deserve recognition are Death Angel and Forbidden.
Saw them years and years ago at the Milwaukee Metal Fest (circa 1986/87). Great band. Wish I still had the tee shirt....although it would likely have shrunk by now. 🙂
the summer between 4th-5th grade ('94), someone was having a and i picked up a bunch of cassette tapes for a few bucks. one of them had a really what i that was a cool cover art of sand statutes in a desert. turned out to be Practice What You Preach by Testament. was my first steps into the metal world
Chuck & Eric are Native American. I'm a lifelong fan of Testament ✌️🤘🥁🎸🇺🇸 I'm in a band myself and we're multi-ethnic. We're like family, we help each other. We look after the ones' that support us.
Seen Testament live 8 freaking times - #9 coming up this summer at Wacken. Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Venom (regular version or Inc), SOD (stormtroopers of death, not system of a down), Metal Church, Pantera... so much thrash out there for y'all to explore!
WOW loved this awesome song, I was born in New Mexico I'm a mutt lol I have Apache, Mexican and Spanish blood lol see what I mean. My birthday is March 29. Thanks guys like always much love ❤
Testament is from SF, originally called Legacy. They started in the early 80’s. The singer is full blooded American Indian. The guitar player, Alex Skolnick is one of the best players in the thrash genre. The singer, Chuck Billy isn’t even the original singer. The original singer is the singer who is now in Exodus
Full blooded American Indian? With a Mexican mom? That’s freaking awesome! I guess I’ll have to let my tribe know that I am no longer just half, I’m now full blooded Umpqua.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this in the comments but if not you guys should check out the documentary Murder in the Front Row ...it's about the rise of the Bay area thrash metal scene ..
CEPHELECTOMY-THE SPLINTERED PUPIL...this is one of the most intense songs ypu will ever hear, especially when you get everyone singing the hook. The lead vocalist/guitarist also plays drums in it because he couldnt find anyone intense enough to take the role of drummer....please react to this this!!!!
Back then Egypt wasn't Egypt but, we'll give that one to Smokey. There have also been petroglyphs found around the world that date back further than academia's belief of when the area of Egypt had its first civilizations. These have shown evidence of prior knowledge in the fields of astronomy, mathematics, etc.
Speaking of the pipeline check out A Tribe called Red -Black Snakes And heres sum other Native Artists u shud check out Drezus - Red Winter - Get Up - Warpath - Bless Okema -Life of a Native Red Eagle - High Above the Clouds
Listen to “Souls of Black” it’s what got me into them in the 80s plus “Practice what you preach “ SOOO many great songs , plus anything off of the ritual! 😈🤘
This year, my families Thanksgiving would have been a hot mess if we got together.. I'm so glad we didn't.😊 So I just spent Thanksgiving with mom.😊❤ Cuz my mom rules, and it's pleasant to be around.😊
Being Navajo this song hits hard life on the reservation is tuff so heavy metal music is our way of dealing with those battles. I hope you guys can watch a small documentary called metal from dirt from revolver magazine it's a great watch 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
‘This Land is Your Land’ was written by folk singer Woody Guthrie… not exactly as an expression of patriotism or longing for some idyllic communal society. There are verses that are quite critical of the US. But most of us weren’t taught those parts in elementary school music class lol
Side note.... When did "history" get 2 s's to call it "his story"? If anything it's either "his Tory" or "hi story" you can't just add an invisible s like that
Google is your friend and it’s not just for porn. You should use it sometime to look at the timeline for each of these civilizations and not say something so silly in the future.
If there was a Big 8, Testament would be there (IMO) with Exodus, Overkill and Flotsam And Jetsam. Good tune here, but wouldn't be the one I'd use to introduce the band. Vocalist Chuck Billy has a huge native connection. They have done charity shows to protect native burial grounds among other positive social causes. A great band that never leaves my playlist. I have bought every album and have seen them in concert 17 times. Nice reaction as always, though. Peace!
They (Testament) are Californian Native Americans. They also been around as long as Metallica, they were around the same band scene during the 80s in LA, Metallica got signed to a record label one year before Testament did. These dudes need the same kind of praise that Metallica gets, they helped usher in Thrash metal with Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Death Angel, Morbid Angel, Kreator, Motorhead and many more.
In 1987, 88 and 89 Testament release 3 back to back killer albums and was poised to be the next be thing, probably ensuring their place among the big four, but their 4th studio album (Souls of Black) released in 1990 was arguably 'bad', at least compared to what had come before. They never regained their momentum after that.
Testament are one of those bands that just get better with every album. Every album made after 2009 is as good if not better imo than their early stuff
1) Hear closely to the Drumline in literally any Testament song and you will understand why people dislike Lars Ulrich's drumming. 2) I appreciate Testament beeing thrsh classics and all, but i personally like their heavier stuff from Demonic and The Gathering best
Trash talkers listening to your Beatles The walrus video right now, if y'all want to really silly Beatles song, look up "you know my name, call the number" I believe it's called, Weird little Beatles song, the most English thing you'll ever hear

This band rules.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🤘🤘🤘🤘 I like everything from the riffs to the singing.😊
It is so great every time I get to hear Testament. Chuck's supposed to be dead, but instead he's still here, slugging it, singing his guts out for coming up on 40 years. From the immortal "Alone In The Dark" to today, Testament never fails to deliver. Never flinched, not once. Long Live Chuck. Long Live Testament.
Speaking of helping people. The other day while I was on the train taking my bike downtown. I saw a lady struggling to get her bike off the bike rack, so I decided to help her get the bike off, and she said thanks and then got off the train.😊
Trial by fire!
Those James Murphy solo albums get overlooked, but he does some serious ripping on both.
Man I'd say it's almost a big 7
Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, exodus, overkill and testament.
Chuck Billy the singer has Native roots
FORBIDDEN, DEATH ANGEL,HIRAX,SENTINEL BEAST,...
Lead guitarist is the legendary Alex Skolnick .
Love testament. Sins of omission, Afterlife, and Electric crown are fantastic tracks.
Love Testament!! Personally my big four are Testament, OverKill, Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies. Couple other thrash bands that deserve recognition are Death Angel and Forbidden.
Love all those bands
Seen them all live
The eighties was a great time
Saw them years and years ago at the Milwaukee Metal Fest (circa 1986/87). Great band. Wish I still had the tee shirt....although it would likely have shrunk by now. 🙂
the summer between 4th-5th grade ('94), someone was having a and i picked up a bunch of cassette tapes for a few bucks. one of them had a really what i that was a cool cover art of sand statutes in a desert. turned out to be Practice What You Preach by Testament. was my first steps into the metal world
Testament is killer! You guys should check out some Death Angel. Another great Thrash band.
Chuck & Eric are Native American. I'm a lifelong fan of Testament ✌️🤘🥁🎸🇺🇸
I'm in a band myself and we're multi-ethnic.
These guys are my friends… should do Rise Up by them. Bay Area Thrash for life!
As an Oklahoma Choctaw, I approve this message! AHO!
Chuck billy is Native American and Mexican. From the Pomo tribe. My band and testament have both known each other since the 80s
Love from the Ojibwe
thanks for the Reaction, please more Testament
Sick video…they are storytellers
You guys are going to fucking love this band!
I guess I’m misinformed , you must be a member of the sarcastic asshole tribe 😂
You gotta check out Electric Crown and Practice What You Preach, sick tracks! Cheers from Uruguay

Idc what anyone says, Skolnick/Peterson are right up there with Downing/Tipton and Murray/Smith!!!🤘🤘🤘
Testament has always been a criminally underrated -sorta overlooked band to me….they could hang with any of the Big 4 🤤
First saw them late 80's supporting Anthrax, still the loudest band I've seen. Helluva gig. 🤘
My favourite thrash band by far!
I’m native Choctaw this song is fire !! Been a fan of Testament senes the 80’s trial by fire an nobody’s fault ❤❤❤
Gotta listen to "Throne of thorns"from this album.

Merci !🤘 Low is another great song of Testament if u could hear them❤
Being Navajo this song hits hard life on the reservation is tuff so heavy metal music is our way of dealing with those battles. I hope you guys can watch a small documentary called metal from dirt from revolver magazine it's a great watch 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Gene Hoglan killing it!!🥁🔥🔥
Have y'all done Death Angel? they are the other band that often gets mentions as part of the Big Six of Thrash.
Hell, yeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! 🤘
‘This Land is Your Land’ was written by folk singer Woody Guthrie… not exactly as an expression of patriotism or longing for some idyllic communal society. There are verses that are quite critical of the US. But most of us weren’t taught those parts in elementary school music class lol
I have a music set list called the Big 5 and testament is in there
Chuck Billy the lead singer is Native American,
When people forget that the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures also used geometry and were around the same time as Egypt if not older than Egypt
You’ll find thrash metal is quite diverse . All kind of different ethnic groups in these bands. Check out death angel, suicidal tendencies
Gene Hoglan FTW.... dude is the absolute definition of LEGEND
Testament are now in the Big Four
If you want a good political song for the Native Americans is: Fit For An Autopsy - Black Mammoth. Quite heavy but very moving.
Peace!
Gene Hoglan is one the best old school metal drummers out there, one of my favorite.
Still requesting Sicksense- Feed Them To The Wolves, please and thank you
Wow 🔥
They (Testament) are Californian Native Americans. They also been around as long as Metallica, they were around the same band scene during the 80s in LA, Metallica got signed to a record label one year before Testament did. These dudes need the same kind of praise that Metallica gets, they helped usher in Thrash metal with Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Death Angel, Morbid Angel, Kreator, Motorhead and many more.
listen to the alex shred them strings most definately under rated
Another really good Native American band is Blackbraid. I would recommend listening to “The Spirit Returns “.
Old school plenty of good tunes enjoy
Musical death
Testament 🤘
Testament are one of those bands that just get better with every album. Every album made after 2009 is as good if not better imo than their early stuff
They are from Berkeley California
Was a good song. Souls Of Black next by Testament!
Get that OG Testament! The entire Legacy album is FIIIIIRE!!! The New Order album is pure darkness.
Brutal
Zuni New Mexico here full blooded shiwi
Annihilator - Crystal Ann/Alison Hell - is another "under the radar"-Gem of Thrash-Metal - it will melt your sweet faces away :)
I donked up Testament once, I thought Over the Wall (Testament) was by Slayer. My bad Testament
Gotta check out Death Angel another great thrash band
1) Hear closely to the Drumline in literally any Testament song and you will understand why people dislike Lars Ulrich's drumming.
2) I appreciate Testament beeing thrsh classics and all, but i personally like their heavier stuff from Demonic and The Gathering best
Please check out more Testament
More tesatment!! Yes!!
Trash talkers listening to your Beatles The walrus video right now, if y'all want to really silly Beatles song, look up "you know my name, call the number" I believe it's called,
Weird little Beatles song, the most English thing you'll ever hear
Hey guys, if you're still on I have a black metal song that you guys might find as beautiful as I do
Dissection "where dead angels lie"
Please check it out, beautiful dark black metal 🤘🖤🤘
Big4 for sure
Kreator would be the 5th band of the big 5.
Could be
I’m 100% Native American Navajo🤘🏽. The single of testament is Native American 🤘🏽.
If I heard and recall correctly, the lead singer is 100% full blown native. Don't know the tribe though. Native Power!!
Half Pomo, half Mexican
