A certain type of people would come in, order water from the wait staff, and then proceed to devour the free oysters. They would then leave and not have the common courtesy to even tip the wait staff. Disgusting behaviour.

In the 90s coffee shops used to be a vibrant place to go hang out, the conversations were deafening at times but we all were like that. A Library that won the Presidential Award of Libraries had a computer section with glass individualized rooms so somebody could tutor someone, or have a private business meeting like an office, or do their studies like a college or high school student for private, quiet study that had outlets to setup laptop and other electronic equipment. This library was able to be self-funded from the donations of those who could contribute to use the library services at reasonable donations and not be charged an arm-and-leg like Corporate Greed does. That is good use of taxpayers' dollars for taxpayers' use.

Perhaps they could have "free" coffee shops if they have a membership, or a donation of some kind when the enter the door. If they want to bring their own stuff, it shouldn't cost a lot for the shop as long as those people are respectable. Just a thought.

I saw this coming fifteen-twenty years ago. I saw customers who wanted to buy drinks and food walk out of Starbucks when all the tables were taken over by students who should be in a library and adults who should use a WeWorks (when it was around). The bathroom patrons could be sketchy. I think the drive through and pick up & go business model works best for many locations.

I was at Tim Hortons with my son and six Indian international students walk in with McDonald coffee cups in their hands that they must have bought from across the street. As well it has gone up in price but still is under 10 cents a cup to make. I just drape a filter over a cup and either wet edges or use a rubber band and pour microwaved water over. The starbuck on college drive in baton rouge smells and sounds like ________ anyway. The stock is in a 5 year downtrend lol anyway. All they would need to do is hire a few heterosexual employees and charge 1.50 for a cup and folks would start to come back. These ____s need to realize is a cup is 1.50, if someine goes like 20 days out of month they get 30.00. That person can make 60 cups ie 1 months worth for like 6.00. There price on that bean is like 1.50 so still like 2000% profit lol. Im living off what i lived off of in 1995 ie wiping with a washable rag. Bad decision on there part ie to alienate folks
Ok, I’m fine with only paying customers using tables but bathrooms are a necessity for everyone. I am a card carrying Starbucks customer and occasionally I stop in to use the bathroom without buying anything. Well I just cut up my a Starbucks card. I will go elsewhere to buy my coffee.

I've been into many small places where people just come to get a drink and snack sit down, consume and they leave. They are still in business.
