@@paullevine1813 Don't forget the legendary Who performance of "A Quick One While He's Away." It is rumored in some circles that that's the particular performance the made the Stones sit on the Circus for so many years. Another (relatively credible) story: that it was 72 consecutive hours of chemically-supported production work and ego/talent wrangling that had the Stones too flat to outdo their supporting cast by the time they got on stage to close the show.
The thing I loved about the Rollings Stone's Rock and Roll Circus is that it featured some of the biggest names at the time and everybody played their hearts out. This perfomance by Taj Mahal (featuring Jeese Ed Davis) is no exception.

Touch, sweetness, tone, lyrical lines, rockin', country touches, and horn lines! craftmanship!....I could go on. And all done with straight face & body, no extraneous movement, no show, no guitar face. All the beauty, all the music comes out of his fingers. All his musical energy comes out his hands. And Taj! What else is there to say about the Taj? His energy, his groovy soulful tunes, such a wide variety of those tunes charisma etc. Master!!!! Oh! Did I mention the guitarist in this fantastic combo? One of the best ever musical combos. Guess I did. Can't say enough. Sorely missed......
This is perfect blues, rockin tune. Melodic, great guitar, and authentic, sincere vocals, on top of a great sounding rhythm section. This is what the 1969 - 1975 Rolling Stones probably used as a high bar.
Jesse Ed was one of the most lyrical players of the Rock era. As a player myself I always preferred players such as Jesse, Robbie Robertson and J.J. Cale. Super clean and twangy.
Another twangy guitarist was Domenic Troiano,Toronto guy ,played along Yonge Street same era as Robbie Robertson ,I've seen JJ Cale ,seen Robertson ,seen Troiano, all fabulous, another superb guitarist out of Toronto is Jack de Kyzer, his álbum Check Mate is a killer.
It's not about diversity or anything, as of course "American" music was also influenced from the worldwide pool. American music is the best for the geniuses and personas that wrote it. I am saying that as Croatian.
Nelson Giacomini , see the movie documentary "Rumble; the Indians Who Rocked the World" for more about Jesse Edwin Davis. He also played on Doctor My Eyes with Jackson Browne.
This is special, absolutely love it! When I bought Circus Circus, this was the real prize. To me, they outperformed every other band. Song for Jeffrey was cool too
I thought the same thing. This and Tull are what I always play. The Dirty Mac would have great if they had locked Yoko in a shed on the other side of town before hand.
Jesse Ed Davis. I was an early fan of his. In 1971 I bought an album by John Lee Hooker and Jesse was on it, great guitarest. Seeing him in the vid is great. So many talented artist here.
You're 100% right! It's a shame he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. A lot of people don't realize that if it wasn't for Jesse Ed Davis, Duane Allman may have never played slide guitar.

Jesse Ed Davis. What a great guitar player. Wish he had been more recognized in his time. Highly respected by all of his peers
Mr Crisp and Clean...
My thoughts exactly AND "where is JED in the credits of this video?" That AIN'T right. He sure tore it up on " Doctor My Eyes".
The right people noticed him like his lead on "Doctor my Eye's " Jackson Browne
@ironingboard man but the moment is now a good memory ✌🏽
You see him in George Harrison concert for Bangladesh.
Not every day the Rolling Stones and John Lennon, Eric Clapton get upstaged. They did this day. Taj and the boys rocked that roof off.
The poor stones put on this crazy concert for everyone only to get upstaged by everyone else.
How true & Chuck Blackwell used Charlie Watts drum kit on top of it all. They & Jethro Tull were the best acts on that silly but good show.

Jesse Ed Davis. Native American guitarist. Played on many records by famous artists, but died tragically from substance abuse. Loved this guy.
