Just refraction by the moisture. In the mornings, I often get a lot of atmospheric refraction and the sun is blood red. Often, from my hilltop, I can see cumulonimbus clouds over the Gulf of Mexico explode upwardly at sunrise- 120 to 200 miles away. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning. Red sky at night, sailors delight.
