this album is a life changer. one of their tightest albums and one of the most aggressive. a difficult record for anyone unfamiliar with hardcore music. however sweet and low and instrument are just the best introduction to such a great band. pure inspiration
This was the first Fugazi album I ever listened to as a 15 year old. Randomly spotted it in the rack after having gone through a Minor Threat phase shortly before and hearing about Ian MacKaye's association. Goddamn if it didn't change how I view music.
Pt. II should go into the actual liner notes. There’s an interesting story there. Great show! Thanks for highlighting one of the best Indy Concept Albums ever!!
Fugazi - The greatest live band I've ever seen. I'd love to see them again, but I'm guessing they'll never perform again, or release another album. FYI - Fugazi released two 7" singles. '3 Songs' and 'Furniture + 2'.
Finean Williams I still don't have the slightest clue what is going on on that album. I can't match titles to more than half of the songs. It's impossible. Hard to know when one song ends and the next one starts. Not bad though.
Finean Williams I guess if you weren't there you wouldn't know how important that EP (basically a record given the #of tunes) was, it blew doors & minds, and I never considered it as an Ep. My bad I guess, but not noting Waiting Room, their clarion call seems like a faux Pas to me.
You should do a death metal one either: Morbid Angel's first 4 albums (Altars - Domination) Atheists debut or its second album Gorguts - Obscura Possessed's - 7 Churches Any Death Album Celtic Frost and Bathory could be cool too.
This is a great album but its very dense. I'm not sure that Fugazi would have done a whole lot better in a major label unless they went to a more commercial sound. That's not really a vibe that I ever got off this band.
Basically it means, the end product wasn't up to the standard that either the band or Albini himself envisioned. I think you can still find the Steve Albini recordings online. Compared to what we got, when they went back to DC, they're not very good (in my opinion). I can't quite put my finger on why, but they just don't seem to convey the same energy as their other recordings.
Of all the Fugazi albums, y'all choose to do one of these videos for fucking this one? I suppose End Hits would have been a worse choice, but every other album would have been more interesting.
Spent my high school years seeing this band for $5. If they played 3 or 4 nights we'd go up and see them each night. Now all my heroes are mask wearing sheep that do as they are told and beg to be governed harder. Not sure if they ended up like this but then again I don't wanna know.
Somebody had to fund that liberal band.No way in hell could they fund themselves on no day job wages. Those were HI quality recordings...Dont bullshit us.

Give us an episode on an Aphex Twin album
that first song still slays like a wildfire.
Pt. II should go into the actual liner notes. There’s an interesting story there. Great show! Thanks for highlighting one of the best Indy Concept Albums ever!!
Do some more Fugazi please!
The last real band. This album is hard, but man is Red Medicine tight
Comrade Kong Yours?
@Comrade Kong That's where you're wrong boyo.
funny enough, Red Medicine is the one i can't really get into
Red Med is better
@Comrade Kong The Strokes?
legendary' album of legendary's band
Fugazi, the only band with integrity.
John Jacob Heimer what about death?
Hendrawan C Death the death metal band? Or death the late 70's punk band?
It's early 70s.
1985cactus whatevs...
John Jacob Heimer what does that even mean

Bill Case probably not, but Brendan and joe have formed a new band .record comes out on the 23rd.
Hey it's back up again
Amazing record, amazing band.
Tbh, I’ve never fallen in love with their music, but I have mad respect for them.
Why not? I'm curious. I think music wise they're fantastic.
I feel like this about a lot of people’s “holy grail” bands, but Fugazi is one of mine.
Instrument is my favourite song in the album the first time I heard it, it blew my mind away
great! they were true to what they believed and this is priceless!
I love these series
They are short but more informative then most hour and a half documentaries.
Don't 🔴 and thank you.
Pavement’s Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain or Slanted and Enchanted, would be great.
wowee zowee would make an interesting liner notes i feel
Finean Williams I’d be happy with either one of their first three album...absolute essentials imo
Finean Williams, you should check out the 33 1/3 book on wowee zowee!
Philip Larkin made one
Finean Williams I still don't have the slightest clue what is going on on that album. I can't match titles to more than half of the songs. It's impossible. Hard to know when one song ends and the next one starts. Not bad though.
Met Guy Picciotto in 2011. I'll never forget it.
Love this album but "Repeater" still my favorite.
Do a video for Unwound! Literally any album and I'll be happy
Tristan McGarr nice call 👍
Fuck yes, do one for Leaves Turn Inside You
One for Repetition would be nice. That's like the perfect middle ground between Fake Train and Leaves
Even if they suck, I still want to hear the Albini tapes.
Matthew Thompson I remember they used to be up on RUclips. Now, I can only find links for torrents.
It’s ass
They're still online
I just heard them for the first time tonight incidentally. They're still around on RUclips
still the only band that matters.
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
No talk on “Last Chance For A Slow Dance” ? 😞
🖕
Do Swans - Filth
I've been waiting for it since I caught a glimpse of it being deleted
You’d Make A Great Cop
A mio parere il miglior album degl' anni 90.
do Angel Dust - Faith no more
do Leaves Turn Inside You
Next do a post-rock album [Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, Tortoise, etc.]
these guys all went to my high school and did their shows at the park two blocks away
Lol, you guys still have Ian singing Walken's Syndrome at 2:00.
When Fugazi came to my town I didn't go because I couldn't afford it and I was too young to get into the venue! So much for those ethics....
I thought they famously charged only $5 for a show? Or are you saying as a kid you didn't even have access to that?
Cap'n Jazz
What about the mashup album *Wugazi*?
I love this series. I love u
Make a Linear Notes video on "The Shape of Punk To Come" by Refused. One of the most important punk albums of the 90s!!
True inspiration!
fantastic piece, thanks!
So good 👏🔨
Love this series
How did they miss mentioning their first eponymous record? How to trust Pitchfork as arbiters of hipster?
david coyne I had a bit of beef with that too. However, 13 Songs is actually 2 EPs collected on one release. That’s Fugazi and Margin Walker.
Repeater is their first official full length
Finean Williams I guess if you weren't there you wouldn't know how important that EP (basically a record given the #of tunes) was, it blew doors & minds, and I never considered it as an Ep. My bad I guess, but not noting Waiting Room, their clarion call seems like a faux Pas to me.
Do refused - the shape of punk to come
You should do a death metal one either:
Morbid Angel's first 4 albums (Altars - Domination)
Atheists debut or its second album
Gorguts - Obscura
Possessed's - 7 Churches
Any Death Album
Celtic Frost and Bathory could be cool too.
I bought this tape at a lake Worth Walmart.
This is a great album but its very dense. I'm not sure that Fugazi would have done a whole lot better in a major label unless they went to a more commercial sound. That's not really a vibe that I ever got off this band.
do crazy rhythms by the feelies
I wonder what their response was to Rolling Stones statement
Are you guys going to delete this video too like your last Fugazi linear notes video?
bars
It was the same vid, but there were errors, so they deleted the old vid, fixed the errors, and re-uploaded it. Even says so in the description.
The explanation to the corrections in the description wasn't there when they first re-uploaded the video, they just recently added that.
Heroes
Plz do Atmosphere God loves Ugly
it took me 3 seconds to find that smallpox blankets were a myth
Your mommy must be so proud. Of course, you have the internet, which wasn’t exactly poppin’ in the early 90s.
Pavement
Yes
@@fineanwilliams3731 pave sux
Do Spiderland!
You should do Red Medicine
Do Spoon’s “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga”!
Please do some REM next!
lea115511 I'm voting for out of time
lea115511 I second this
Love REM
fuck out of time, Reckoning all the way
avalanches
@3:27 that’s Craig fucking Ferguson
"i think we drop the ball"?! what's that means?

I'd say repeater needed one more than this
Sunny Day Real Estate, please!
Why does Brandan Canty look like a 2018 hipster?
looks more like he belongs in a smiths music video
Because 2018 hipsters want to look like 1991 Brendan Canty.
Why are Stooges albums on Columbia coming out of the Repeater and Steady Diet sleeves? Lazy...
It should've been The Argument but ok.
i think red medicine is better
Ecléctico Iconoclasta yep, I think so too.
Repeater > Kill Taker

What is good for the future? What was good for the past? Yeah kinda seems to be a repeat of history.
Please do Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory.

And now their kids absolutely hate their guts. Assuming any of them have children, which is possibly a stretch.
Somebody had to fund that liberal band.No way in hell could they fund themselves on no day job wages. Those were HI quality recordings...Dont bullshit us.
These indie bands act like they were poor.Somebody funded them..
