There's about 61 NBA players playing for all of the non usa teams in the Olympics. 3 of the Top 5 NBA players are playing for the foreign countries (Luca, Giannis, and Jocic), and sometime in the future, possibly in 2028, the world teams will have NBA starting 5 players on their rosters with possible a 6th man. And further than that-the American NBA players have to level up, because there won't be any offensive cheat codes like Curry or KD there anymore.

Now that it's over, I'm curious what it looks like in 4 years. 3 years ago in Tokyo, all the talk was about Durant sort of grooming Jason Tatum to be his replacement as the leader of team USA basketball. But then this year all the old guys decided to play, and Tatum didn't always find his place on this team.
But then again, without how much KD just loves hooping, maybe he'll be back again in 4 years and be the defacto leader like he was in Tokyo.
Also, once again a shoutout to Giannis. He tried his best to play 5 on 1. It didn't work out for him, but good lord did he try.

Drazen Petrovic wasn’t a “role player”. He died in a car accident in 1993 and was 3rd team All-NBA. That dude was serious and was just entering his NBA prime. Toni Kukoc could have been a top player, had he not spent his prime NBA years playing with MJ and Scottie and came to the NBA at 19/20 like Luka or Jokic. He came into the NBA at 24. After MJ retired in 98, Kukoc averaged 18 ppg the next 2 seasons as the Bulls 2nd option. This was before we dudes were jacking up 3s all game and rules were geared towards optimizing scoring.

I cannot be mad that we lost. I expected it. All I wanted was for us to not be embarrassed in this tournament and after hitting rock bottom, we went beyond what any reasonable French fan could have expected.
We gave the US hell in this game. Kept it close for the most part, but never had the accuracy to take over. And then Steph killed us at the end. It was surreal to witness it, and as a Celtics fan, I had ptsd from 2022. We double teamed him, on a court with Durant, James, Davis and Booker... and he hit that. I turned to my father and said "What are you even supposed to do against that?"
I still had moments I will cherish for the rest of my life, like the Yabusele dunk on LeBron. That was insane. Batum coming out of his final game for the French National team after giving his blood, sweat and tears one last time. A real captain to the end. Nando, who was a liability the whole tournament, rolled back the years to remind people why he is one of the greatest names in Les Bleus' history.
Congrats USA, there's no shame in losing to the best after all. It was special to see the icons of the court one last time together. We hanged in there with the best players of our generation. That's special in its own right.

What makes it funnier is that calling a team that wins in the NBA "World Champions" had never really been a thing.. Look at all the banners, busses and shirts you see at the victory parades, all you will see is "NBA Champions". It would have made more sense to talk about baseball who call their finals the World Series.

Germany are the reigning World Champions, US is the Olympic Champion. It's how it works.
Lyles was correct in the fact that the NBA Champion is not the World Champion as the NBA is an American league. Is it the best league, yes. But that doesn't make it's winners World Champions.

that aint the point tho? it completely defeats the integrity of sport and competition to win a DOMESTIC competition and declare yourselves WORLD champions. the premier league is the hardest soccer league by a country mile to win and yet they never declare themselves world champions

I think that the point you make at the end about the world catching up can be linked to Noah's comment. In fact a lot of the world agreed with the sentiment that calling yourself world champion without playing the rest of the world is a typically American thing to do (I see you worlds series) and it IS disrespectful to your competition which in this case is the rest of the world. A good comparison is with the winner of the champion's league in football. They don't go around calling themselves world champs even though the winner beat the best teams in the world in arguably the most competitive football tournament of world. I think if you put that conversation in the larger context of how the world feels about American exceptionalism this was more than just semantics. But otherwise great video as always keep up the good work

Lyles comment looks extra dumb considering that of 144 total players in the men's Olympic tournament, *81* of them have NBA experience. *ALL* 12 men's Olympic teams had _at least_ one player who played in a regular-season NBA game over the previous year.
People keep saying "the world is catching up" - seems more like the NBA's reach is going further.
In contrast - when the original Dream Team played in 1992, only 22 players with NBA experience participated in the Olympics - and half of them were on the actual Dream Team.
