I was the one who sent _Text and Drugs and Rock and Roll_. (It was supposed to ship with the book on the sixties you got earlier, but Amazon sent the books separately.) That book has a lot of good essays about the influences of the beat poets on rock and roll lyrics.

Hopefully you'll go through the Let It Be album before the Abbey Road album as it was (mostly) recorded first, even though it was finished/released last.

Beer, ale, is a British mainstay. There are a host of amazing, old, craft breweries in England. Look for a proper ale, or bitter. You might be surprised . Lovely idea about the bookshelf.

The title of that book is a play on words refering to the famous Ian Dury song "Sex and Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll".

Let it Be is not their final album recorded. Abbey Road is. Let it Be was released late due to film and other issues but it was not their last album. Their swan song was Abbey Road and it was, in my opinion, their best album ever.

Yes, in terms of development, Let It Be was a bit of a mess and though it contains so many classics, it suffers from the rocky recording and production while Abbey Road is about as near to perfection as anyone in rock has ever achieved.

What is the difference between US cider and UK cider?
In the American state of New Hampshire, the state beverage of apple cider is like unfiltered apple juice. Usually, mulled spices are added, turning it into a spiced, piping hot drink. But in the famed cider-growing region of Britain's West Country, cider is a fermented, alcoholic beverage.7 Jan 2019

Not sure if anyone else pointed it out but the one book (at least the title) is based on the original expression of about 50 years ago, "Sex and drugs and Rock and Roll" which was also a rock song.

It's hard to have a true understanding of Rock, especially from the 90s onward, without at least a passing familiarity with Punk. It isn't my favorite subgenre of Rock, but it is my favorite subgenre's favorite subgenre. Adam did a good deed by sending you "Rip It Up and Start Again".

"Old Speckled Hen" is a very nice British Ale...available in numerous places in the US (at least in Texas...Specs, Total Wine, etc.) perfect for those pints!

  • @41Forethought
    @41Forethought 3 месяца назад +1

Amy, you definitely should christen those pints with a fine British ale.
May I suggest a traditional English Red Ale, a fairly strong but well-rounded, slightly sweet and hoppy brew.
Or, perhaps, an English bitter, a light to medium bodied pale ale with a hoppy bitterness, hence the name. The bitter is warm fermented, which made it well-suited for brewing in Britain's warmer colonies. A bitter is the precursor to todays numerous IPAs (India Pale Ales). 🍻
Then there's the traditional drink of British colonial India, the gin and tonic, but a pint glass may be just a bit too large for a G & T! 🥴
Whatever you decide, Amy (and Vlad)... ENJOY!

You can have a Black and Tan that is fully British Isles and half English. It is made with half Guinness (Irish) and half Bass Ale (English). I already know you like Guinness, since you have posted a photo with a can of non-alcoholic Guinness (you were pregnant at the time). Although maybe not for the taste, but only for the harp on the label.😉 Or just drink the Bass Ale (I like it). The Bass Brewery was founded in 1777 by William Bass in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England. We certainly need a Billy Joel Special Weekend now more than ever, with at minimum "Piano Man", along with one or more other ones from your Greatest Hits CD. He has many great ones to listen to.

You could start doing a new trend. Do each song listen while getting drunk. How funny would that be.
You could have 4 pints of super strength ale lined up in front of you, and you have to get through them all before the song ends. That would be hilarious. 😂😂😂

You really need to listen to Let It Be before Abbey Road. Let it Be was recorded before Abbey Road, but was released after Let It Be due the group’s dissatisfaction with the recording process, and uncertainty about the quality of their performances.( I know, hard to believe!).

LET IT BE isn't exactly the last album the Beatles recorded... although it WAS officially released after ABBEY ROAD once producer Phil Spector got a hold of it - althought there is a LET IT BE NAKED album without the Spector treatment.

For a British drink you might consider a Shandy. A traditional British pub offering consisting of a pale beer (think Pilsner or even Lager) mixed with lemon soda. Lower in alcohol and sweeter than beer by itself. It makes for a refreshing summer drink on a hot day. A50/50 mix is pretty standard.
