I wonder if the two American officers he's referring to were Lt. Russell Volckmann and Lt. Donald Blackburn. These officers decided not to surrender to the Japanese and took their chances to the Cordilleras and continue fighting the Japanese. Russell Volckmann eventually became the Commander of the USAFIP, NL and Donald Blackburn was second in command. Blackburn was also the commander of the 14th Infantry Regiment, USAFIP, NL. His book, "Blackburn's Headhunters" is a good read. Both Volckmann and Blackburn retired as Generals in the US Army.

Apo Gayon in her youth is perhaps fair n beatiful. Apo Gayyon was speaking in Ilocano at times mixing it with their dialect. She said the outcome of the thread is Abel (cotton loom woven textile) to make blankets (ules)...

Perfect spot to end the video, "Grandeur" - it is! Looking at it, makes me feel "speckle of dirt" in the vastness of the topography. Hazy mountains make it more majestic and mysterious on the horizon. Mountains on the background are so magnificent and beautiful. It so sad that weaving industries in the Mt. I've never been up there in Ifugao but my English Husband and I visited Laoag, Ilocos Norte in 2007. I left the Philippines in 1978 but I still miss the food, my relatives, friends, people everywhere & of course the ambiance. Nothing like it. Last year, our Son & family came with us & we stayed in Makati. Took them to Pico de Loro & had a great time. We explored Makati, Taguig & Manila. Everyone had an enjoyable time. Thank you for exploring, promoting, show casing, sharing and most of all educating us Viewers about The Philippines and its people & history. Maraming salamat po.

But thanks to you I get to see them through your vlog. I love it. You are indeed becoming Filipino, you know so many Pilipino words. Yes, be our brand ambassadors while we Filipinos (especially the Bisaya and the Tagalog - I know the other language groups are just laughing at us) find ways and ways to pull each other down, the crabs that we are 😆😭 but thanks. Nice sentiment.
Thank you for posting this Kulas. I remember my grandfather during the war. They went to the highest peaks in the central Philippines with a couple of American soldiers to establish observation posts so they can guide for the main battle force to retake back the Philippines. I admire the courage of the Ifugaos the spirits of their ancestors which joined with the mountains now. I really like your posts it gave us time to reminisce the hard work and the sufferings of our people because of western hypocrisy but we have to endure it for the generations to come. The spirits of our ancestors now are smiling and watching you....we are with you on your quest of becoming a Filipino....till next weblog, Kulas.
Nice to see Apo Gayon who is 99 years old spinning the cotton balls to make cotton threads. I hope Apo Gayon and her family know that once a Filipino reaches 100 years old (next year), the government is giving a cash gift of 100 thousand pesos to a Filipino centenarian. My first time to see such amazing skill of Apo Gayon. I hope her knowledge and skill in making the cotton ball into threads be handed down the line in her family so the family tradition will be perpetuated.
I want to live in the province.,back to nature garden and forest. ,where there are fresh vegetables, clean fresh palay scent air. I love Kulas vlogs covering Filipino cultures and traditions that should not be forgotten.

It looks like you're nearing the end of your Cordillera Region/North Luzon adventure. It was such an educational, enjoyable trip. I've always wanted to watch the series and just had the time today. I've watched it non-stop from around 12nn to now, 10pm. I admire your persistence and hunger to finish the trip. I mean you've been to countless of majestic waterfalls, amazing sceneries, gorgeous landscapes and seascapes. But you never run out of that sense of wonder and enthusiasm. I think your simple local interaction brings additional flavor and fuel to your vlogs. I would have been bored without those lovely greetings and positivity. And to my motherland, I am amazed of its endless offerings. The beauty of its nature seems to never run out. I bet you have to still discover some areas in the Philippines particularly Southwestern Mindanao, Sulu group of Islands, Southern Palawan and Cuyo group of Islands. Just giving you ideas for Fighter Boys 3.0 😁 More power to you Kulas!
Also, I'm not sure if you've fully explored the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon islands and some parts of Bicol region like Sorsogon, Catanduanes and Masbate.

You made me miss my grandma 😢 Apo Gayyon is so cute. Even though she hasn't been to school she's picking up on some english words. The Cordillera is truly beautiful 👍✌️🤙
SUPER PINHUD ... SUPER LIKE ... The Philippine's greatest treasure is not the place itself but its people. Moments with them are indeed moments to treasure. Plant those cotton seedlings in Cagayan de Oro Kulas or even some in your home in Vancouver. Every yield will be a beautiful reminder of your bonding with this INCREDIBLE woman. Still strong with perfect eyesight 'though One year short of a century, She's endowed with charm and simple beauty and Such skill which reflects her passion and patience that indeed BIG things come from small beginnings. The serenity of the surroundings, beautifully carved mountains and green bountiful rice fields are just BONUS for this another yet wonderful trip of yours. THANKS ... and POWER ON !!!

Hey Kyle..... this video made me teary-eyed while watching Apo Gayon, because she reminded me a bit of my mother who passed away 10 years ago at the age of 89. If she was still alive today, she would've been the same age as Apo Gayon. 😢😢😢
I haven't watched all of the video yet but I already know that it'll be amazing! Thank you Kulas for making videos about my home, it's very nostalgic and everytime I watch them it just makes my day a lot better. Salamat kuya Kulas!

I'm so happy to see this! Apo Gayon and the camera girl are speaking Tuwali dialect in the video but when Apo Gayon speaks to kulas, she is speaking in Ilocano in the hopes that maybe kulas would understand Ilocano atleast. 😊 Apo Gayon is adorable. I am an Ifugao but I didn't know Asipulo was this beautiful. ❤️ Thanks kulas for this, for bringing is with you in your adventures, esp in this Ifugao trip. Keep safe. Power on!

Wonderful Place with the Amazng Lola!
Iyaman kulas for promoting our culture thank you so much more power to your channel
Apo Gayyon should be like Apo Whang Od, she's a National Living Treasure awardee. Her continuous means of using cotton as livelihood is very admirable, and symbolic for us Filipinos, being resourceful and artistic. Kulas, i envy you meeting Filipinos like her who could already be part of our heritage. Thank you for this video. 👏👏👏
It's all green nice mountains
so weather must be nice up there
Nice family
Take care Kyle
Amazing people, incredible view, natural landscape ah very envious viewer here ...Power on..
New Subscriber here from Melbourne, Australia. This is the 2nd of your Video Clip I watched today (22 Jul 2019) about the Philippines. Your presentation, videography, etc are indeed very impressive! I learned & see more of my birth country from your 2 video clips. It's beautiful. Ifugao is an amazing place! The 99 y.o. Lola is so vibrant, funny, mentally alert & smart!
Lovely Kulas, Apo Gayyon wanted to tell you when she was giving you the seeds to take it and plant it to your place so it will become so much more!😁 Beautiful!💗

I discovered your YT channel a few days ago and I am enjoying the many sites and places you visited in the Philippines. You are so lucky. I have not been to those beautiful provinces. But thanks to you I get to see them through your vlog. I love it. You are indeed becoming Filipino, you know so many Pilipino words. I crack up when I hear you say “ tabi tabi po” I find it so endearing because I have not heard a foreigner would say that word and knows when to use it . Oh my, you are one of a kind. You have a sweet smile and a big heart for our country The Philippines and the people. It shows you are enjoying your visit. Much love and God bless. Inggat lang. Btw, I mentioned you to my 88 year old mom and she is your new fan!
She said bring the seed here in Canada to plant amazing....thank kulas.watching fr
Toronto.
True art, native, raw and hand made. Thanks again Kulas for sharing!
These rice fields and this adventure with locals 😮 Thanks for sharing Kulas ❤ Keep going, we love Philippines, lets share a lot about this country, we ll do that too 😉
Yes, be our brand ambassadors while we Filipinos (especially the Bisaya and the Tagalog - I know the other language groups are just laughing at us) find ways and ways to pull each other down, the crabs that we are 😆😭 but thanks.
No skip ads and adblock to help Kulas , and this www.merchby.ph/product-category/people/kyle-jennermann-kulas/ .......power on guys ...
Laughter makes you young and live long.
I want to live in the province.,back to nature garden and forest. ,where there are fresh vegetables, clean fresh palay scent air. I love Kulas vlogs covering Filipino cultures and traditions that should not be forgotten.
Its amazing to see someone that age so active. Years ago, I dated a filipina and went to a house where this little old lady was running around cooking and preparing diner. She was 90 years old and said her mother just died the year before at 109.
The Beauty and Wonder...of the North Zone.......Cordillera scenery...views on top of its hills...mountains are breathtaking....amazing sightsee....to Behold.....good job Kulas....many thanks for sharing 😍🤗😊
Through your blogs I could only say wow my Philippines is really beautiful. I wish I could have the same the same chance or opportunities like you to travel the Philippines.
What an amazing woman. Thanks, Kulas for introducing her to us. Take care & God bless
Just giving you ideas for Fighter Boys 3.0 😁
More power to you Kulas!
Also, I'm not sure if you've fully explored the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon islands and some parts of Bicol region like Sorsogon, Catanduanes and Masbate.
Ayan..lumabas ang pagkapilosopo ng Kiangan..alangan met piman a imulan jay uneg..😀😀

Amazing how the process works from cotton to making thread and then weave♥️
I Love you Apo Gayun Amazing Lola I missed my Grandma while I saw you...Thanks Kulas for Sharing

Wow. Very historic moment. Amazing... So much to learn on your vlog. Beautiful once again view...
Stunning place!! 💚👍💖. Apo or Ina Gayyon may you live more than hundred years old!☘🤞, I'm imagining her wearing a complete indigenous regalia dancing (tadek) a traditional dance with her gallant warrior, I bet she's a very pretty & graceful maiden back then.
