    Astoria is one of my favorite places. It's a beautiful town with a rich history. It borders one of the largest rivers in North America and is steeped in maritime history. The town even has a connection to the RMS Titanic.

      Just a shadow of earlier modes. Older people would say they were going camping and be gone for days without fuss. The dynamite thing was a joke for the context of this movie, but generations earlier would absolutely just play around with it. My grandfather had stories about blowing up snake holes. He'd get his ass beat for it, but didn't sound like it was much of a deterrent. Spielberg was a boomer fan of generations before his, and this story was a forward projection.

It closed and not too long after - the mall is slowly closing. I remember when you would go up and down every isle looking for a place to park. Now almost every spot is available. I know so many facts about this movie. They have been talking about coming out with a Goonies 2. It'll be the kids grown up this time.
    A couple things though about this movie. When Mouth makes Chunk do the Truffle Shuffle, you can see that Chunk was suffering from Chicken Pox at the time of this shot. You can see all the red bumps on his chest and stomach. The house that they filmed most of the opening in is still there. The family that lives there has had to put a fence up with a sign reminding tourists that a family actually still lives there. The crew built an actual pirate ship at the end of the movie. The reaction you see from the kids is their actual reactions because they were never told about the pirate ship. Lastly, when the film was done being made the production offered up the pirate ship to whoever wanted it. That's the one fact that I never found out the conclusion of.

    I've only seen this movie once, it was shown to us at school in something like the 5th grade on the year it came out, dubbed in French as per the law in Quebec at the time. I recall being really impressed by the 'pirate ship' lol. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  • @aproudamerican2692
    @aproudamerican2692 5 дней назад

    The movie studio tried to give the Pirate ship away for free after filming. But they couldn't find anyone to take the very well made pirate ship. So they had it torn apart and thrown away. The cost to take the ship apart and move it was to much money at the time. Ship Historians say that it was one of the most authentic Pirate ships inside and out that they've ever seen. What a waste.
    At the end of the movie. The parents in the movie were actually the kids real parents in real life.
    There are good YT videos showing the filming locations used in the movie today. Nothing has changed.

    So its not written into any of the scenes but i have heard is part of the show bible ….. Mr Walsh (the brothers’ father) is not only curator of the closed Astoria museum, but through inheritance manager and owner of the larger estate where many of the Goonies live including the land that the closed restaurant and the network of caves that Willi’s ship was trapped in…. This meant that in addition to the gems in the marble bag the Walshes have hereditary claim on the entire treasure and a 2/7th finder/salvage claim that all 4 original goonies plus the older brother and two girls share

    The essence of what it was like to be a Gen X kid (with the exception of the pirate ship, LOL). I long for those days again. interesting tidbit, the pirate ship set, complete with water was all filmed in a sound stage in Hollywood, no CGI. Spielberg wouldn't let the actors see it on purpose, the first time they see it is when they turn around in the scene. Those are genuine reactions from the kids.

    Always a great film. If you want to watch another more recent segment which includes The cast and leading crew of The Goonies". In 2020 during the Pandemic, Actor Josh Gad did a series called "Reunited Apart". He got The cast and leading crew of The Goonies to appear on RUclips and talk about their movie experiences. Definitely watch that very fun and informative. It is "Reunited Apart" by Josh Gad. People donated to a pandemic related cause during that video also. Next, if you want to react to another great 80s film, I recommend Ferris Bueller's Day Off". A great film from 1986. Stars Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck and Mia Sara. A great John Hughes film. Also, if you want to see another film that was shot in Astoria, Oregon, I recommend "Kindergarten Cop". A great 1990 suspense film. Stars Arnold Schwarzenegger. A very funny and cute film. The Late Ivan Reitman Directs. Great Film! Great review James and Millie!

    As kids/teenagers then we had an amazing movie option which is probably now considered classic. amost every week to watch. The movie's were trying to avoid the MTV push that kept people home , then joined together helping push water uphill for both later . But video games and lazy over protected kids hatched the entitled generation which feels their parents should pay for and raise their own grandchildren or great grandchildren
