They FINALLY made SAMUROTT viable in VGC • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet VGC Battles

- In this video, I try out a hyper offense team featuring Hisuan Samurott! With so many Psychic-type Pokemon in the format right, Samurott is a great pick. It can deal large amounts of damage thanks to its ability, Sharpness, and can set up layers of Spikes through its signature attack, Ceaseless Edge. The team also utilizes Tornadus to set up Tailwind & Rain Dance for Samurott as well as strong attackers like Choice Scarf Kleavor, Booster Energy Flutter Mane, and Chien Pao.

Make Meganium Fairy Grass with a nice bulky special attack type spread.
It’s literally all that I want plz
I never knew I liked this idea
Literally, they just need to expand its movepool.
Radical red meganium is cracked
With grassy terrain hidden ability plz :D
Gen 9 is my first real competitive game and i would never have been able to get into it without your detailed team breakdowns and gameplay. Thanks man!
I would love Feraligatr to get a secondary Dragon typing
I could see it being Water/Dark too
It felt like the opponent in game 3 had some kind of 2000IQ playbook with all their incredibly well-timed switches, trolly Grim/Hands-but-no-fake-out lead, setting up screens with Shell Armour and then finally, just when you thought you had understood the team gimmick, out comes Trick Room??
Ahahaha that was me thank you. I did have fake out on the hands
@@Pimpidimpdude you played great i was impressed every move
It's crazy that my man here is constantly playing new teams for content creation and is still knocking on the door of top 100 as of the beginning of this episode. Unreal.
Qotd: They really should've given Regular Samurot Sharpness as well
Also i wished Blastoise got Mega Launcher as its HA instead of rain dish
No one would use it over the Hisui version(higher attack, Ceaseless Edge, and Sucker Punch). Regular Sam should get it’s own abilities like Swift Swim or Intimidate
@@InsaneGarrison25intimidate would be really fitting with regular Samurot. Could give it some cool niche.
@@InsaneGarrison25i would use it over the hisuian version. Just cause I think it looks better lol
Samurott has always been my favorite final starter evo. It getting a new form that’s ALSO my favorite type was so cool. And then it was VIABLE????
hazards used to be only viable in singles, so its really great to see pokemon making an attempt to make it have presence in vgc via abilities like toxic debris or moves such as ceaseless edge and stone axe
its even better that its getting good usage rather than having barely any usage
Yea more variety is good! And honestly what would be cool is giving more Pokémon access to moves like that but maybe making them only last 5 turns? But they’d kinda always be out anyway since you just have to attack again… maybe
Or might be op
LETS GO AARON! these videos are so incredibly good, thank you so much, I’m really learning a lot about the new format !
Radical Red buffed Meganium by giving it Fairy typing and the ability Triage which felt amazing, would love to see that or a regional variant come to mainline
Hoping for it too but knowing GameFreak it will inflate their ego
@@DuskDawnVGC what do you mean? How would that inflate their ego?
@@DuskDawnVGC dont understand this
Thank you for so much Reg D Content. I wanted to start with VGC (I've played Singles before) when Reg D starts, so thats really helpful for me. The Teams you show and the way you explain your Moves are just so good.
Keep em coming! The variety of these teams is amazing
Loving the non-stop content in the new format. Thanks and keep it up!
Bro, you are on 🔥 with these videos! Appreciate the hard work Aaron!!
So glad to see you so happy to give us content! Loving the vids!
27:21 there I am Gary there I am!!!! Gg Aaron thank you so much! Consider my passion for Vgc to have grown even higher!!!
YES! SO GLAD TO SEE YOU COVER HIM! I WAS SO EXCITED FOR SAMUROTT! HE'S MY FAVOURITE HISUIAN
I'm happy to see that they made one of my favorite starters viable in Scarlet/Violet!
Oooh! I just watched James's vid of this team! I love it when you guys both showcase the same team -- it really enhances my understanding of how to play with it. Hamurott is really strong in singles, but I think it'll take pros like you to show the way for its use in VGC...
Aaron has been kicking butt for regulation D content!!
Buff Venusaur by making better drought users. But I do love the way Legends did it with "regional" forms
You want to buff the sleep spam bot?
Of all the starters, that's the one that probably needs a nerf lol - or at least the busted mechanic that is sleep
@9:30 Brambleghast is so goated this format, I'm happy he acknowledged it as a legit threat
Nice to see that hazards are actually viable in VGC. It carves so many new paths in which it can threaten pivot heavy teams
they aren't usually that viable because you need to burn a turn in order to set them up. Glimmora was a start but Kleavor and H. Samurott elevates this so much further, and encourages if you want to put one pokemon in your team that has either Defog / Rapid Spin, which 99% of the time will be useless
i meant aren't that viable until Gen 9
PUMPING out the videos! You love to see it.
Another great video! Love your insights
so often, your Game 1 is a perfect game to show off the "cool" part of the team you are featuring, and I love that :)
glad they made hisuian pokemon in SV, they have been very useful. Great vid as usual
Always appreciate your efficient but detailed rundowns of each pokemon on the team!
As for the QOTD, let's give Sceptile it's Mega typing, make it more PHYSICAL than special (you can just swap its physical and special attack), and give it something like Technician to set it apart from something like Meowscarada as a fast physical grass starter!
REEEEEEE, MY FAVOURITE STARTER IS FINALLY USED IN VGC, although it isn't the normal form but...
WE WIN THESE!!!
thank you Aaron for covering this team featuring my beloved Sammy :D 🙏
Another awesome vid!! Hoping for a potential hisuian Typhlosion vid😮
Loving all the rental teams with hisuian pokes, I lost my LA save so I've enjoyed playing with them
Really enjoying the rapid fire regulation D uploads! Hoping there's going to be an Hisuian Zoroark episode as well
Glad to see my boy Hisuian Samurott seeing some usage. I really love Decidueye too, so I would probably buff it by heavily dropping its Special Attack to allow more room for investment in Attack and bulk. I'd also probably change its Hidden Ability; I know it's a signature Ability, but Long Reach is doing it no favors. Maybe something like Sniper since Leaf Blade has a high crit chance or a new signature Ability that makes Decidueye's moves use the target's Defense or Special Defense depending on which is lower (to try and imply it's an archer that hones in on its opponents' weak spots).
For game 3 after the Grimmsnarl set up reflect, would it have been the correct play to go for sacred sword into the hands? Or does it *not* go through the reflect defense boost?
Aaron is uploading like crazy! Love to see it!
Catching up on the new vids! Hypeeee!
A Pokémon i would love to buff would be Meganium. To buff it, leaf guard needs a update. During sun or grassy terrain it provides a 25% defense/ special defense boost.
New moves: life dew, earth power, stomping tantrum, aromatic mist
Definitely a tanky/Support mon.
The leaf guard buff will also improve other Pokémon
Haven’t watched road to ranked in a while, but coming back it’s even better than I remember! Such a helpful resource! Keep up the great work!
Cybertron is UNLEASHED! Loving the uploads!
Fire/grass Torterra with chlorophyll and a signature move that does fire/ ground damage (similar to flying press). Maybe optimize some stats but Torterra already has a pretty nice stat spread for what it is.
I’m very mixed on regulation D as a spectator. While I love all of the cool and interesting new mons from home/arceus, it feels almost like a completely new game before worlds. It would have been cool to wrap up the first year with Regulation C and then in home, but all the same this group of mons have gotten me really interested in watching competitive again.
I'm happy worlds will be in reg D. Hopefully that means next year we will have all legendary and finally see miraidon and koraidon.
Wow maan, this Samurott was mvp all games! I love it!!
Gonna be interesting to see if some of these Pokémon can be useful outside of the HO Tailwind core.
Just wanted to let you know I finally found a Black Aug to evolve my Alpha Kleavor. All while watching your Kleavor vid. Only 120 mons till I complete my Home Dex.
Aaron: Samurott comin in clutch
James in his video: Samurott that’s some weak sauce
😂
I love seeing all these new pokemon getting featured. Is there a team in the near future you can showcase that is more anti-meta? One that doesn't utilize Flutter, Dragonite, Urshifu, or Chien Pao?
Apparently I didn't answer the QOTD when I initially watched this so here you go;
I'd buff Typhlosion. Cyndaquil is my favorite Pokémon of all time and Typhlosion gets some incredible type coverage. But it also has a lot of weaknesses and just can't hit hard enough.
So I'd do one (or a couple) of these following buffs:
• Give it another typing that helps mitigate one or more of its weaknesses.
• Give it a hidden ability that's more competitively viable. Either offensively or defensively.
• Adjust its base stats to make it either a fast glass cannon or make it beefier so it can at least get some attacks off before fainting.
Just some ideas. I know they've made the H-Typhlosion with Ghost typing as well, which has some slight viability, but it's really not enough. You just don't see this Pokémon anywhere. Which is a shame as it has an awesome design plus strong fire, ground, electric, and normal type moves in its move pool.
I was playing around with a similar build in singles this past weekend and man quickly learned how bad it is against fighting and electric types. It's still a fun pokemon but definitely needs to use fairy tera for coverage. The tera type gimmick has really made competitive play more interesting and fun. And has opened the door to a lot of other pokemon you wouldn't think would have a chance to be competitively viable.
It's literally a top 5 ou pokemon lmao
I just played this team up to Master Ball tier tonight. It's a LOT of fun!
42:50 - It's always funny when Aqua Jet is the last move in a turn.
My man is back in full force 😮
such a great feeling when aaron uploads 🥰🙌🌅
Aaron I really like the white eevee top, where is it from?
popping off with videos lately!
can you trick a choice band onto your own unburden sneasler after it flings it's item and keep the unburden while also being choice banded? do you get to choose a new move at this point or are you locked into flinging the choice band?
@@gregoryford2532 good to know. Thanks!
QOTD: Give Typhlosion Earth Power
I’d probably wanna either give Sceptile a secondary type (probably dragon) or access to more electric type moves as a reference to his mega having lightning rod
Let’s GOO Favorite gen 5 starter getting use!!
That poor Arcanine in Game 1 went down like a chump. 😂
I'm currently cooking a H-Samurott team, glad he's finally usable lol.
Shiny hunting Tornadus in Ultra Sun rn, seeing how it’s the third most used pokémon in Ranked right now 😂 should’ve done this earlier.
Aaron, your shirts these past few videos have been amazing! Where did you get them?
I bought it from a pop-up store in Little Tokyo, LA! Sadly don't remember the bname of the place
aaron the kind of guy to go "okayyy" while loading into a game
Where are your eeveelution t-shirts from?! I need them allllll
I saw the 3rd game on the VGC reddit yesterday lol
I think a turn 1 double into grimm with moonblast + scarf u-turn would have been good. Dragonite in the back would have been nice as well to give you that pivot option. Chien pao with scarf kleavor in the would have dealt heavy damage to the goodra as well, leaving the mimikyu as the main threat, which Chien-pao could also deal with with sucker punch. But overall the team for this video looks like it has a tough matchup against that team overall so hard calls to make all around
I would like a variant of Torterra that was Cradily typing, has identical stat spread that it already has, and maybe gets a rock move that sets up leech seed?
(That was just spitballing there)
QOTD: Delphox
Drop speed to 50
HP to 100
Def to 80
S Att to 135
Hidden ability to Psychic surge
That last game was insane, funny axe go brrrt
QOTD: I have a list because starters are the best!
- Greninja: unnerve Protean 😅
- Regional form for Meganium with a better type and ability, I've seen Fairy/Grass + Serene Grace in fangames that was cool!
- Charizard: give it 2 megas oh wait no then lets give it a busted GMax oh no wait... combine them all?
- Torterra: Shell Smash please!
- Empoleon: Competitive instead of Defiant
Would ghost tera be better for samurott? Drops fighting weakness while still retaining fairy neutrality, immune to fake out and facade. But I guess you don’t want to take super effective damage from chien pao sucker punch?
kinda curious as to why aqua cutter is used over razor shell, as razor shell gets the sharpness boost has 5 power higher and has a 50% chance defense drop. Is it purely for the crit or is it also just nicer to have an 100% acc move over a 95% one?
It's just personal preference at the end of the day! I think both moves are great. Higher accuracy is the main reason for me personally.
Never underestimate what a 5% miss can do at the wrong time. It can easily cost you the mon or worse, the game.
I'm more surprised Aqua cutter isn't a special move.
If I were to buff any of the start evos, I'd probably give Swampert regenerator. iirc it's lack of reliable recovery was one of it's biggest weak points. If it had regenerator it could at least make use of flip turn pivots to keep itself healthy. Water/Ground is already a really good typing, so I didn't want to give it anything super strong.
give meganium a mega or some kind of new gimmick mechanic in the future make it grass/fairy grass/dragon with focus mainly on bulk
QOTD: I would give Meganium the flower gift ability
It would have great synergy with drought mons and a reason why you would choose meganium over other chlorophyll mons
Why in the first match did they go for a reverse trick room? Wasn’t that just bad?
Can you find a way to feature decidueye and typhlosion also, that'd be sick, but also likely tough XD
Man I love Hisuian mons
Charizard needs a unique tera type that makes it immune to all damage, can't be statused by volatile and non-volatile effects, can't be knocked out by any other game mechanic, and the tera blast OHKOs the entire opposing team even the ones not brought into battle and it fries the opposing trainer's Switch. It's sad to see an old favorite not receive any love in gen 9, truly forgotten and abandoned.
Truly
I kinda hope some starter regional variant ever gets to mix it up and actually become a two-step evolution line.
give meganium a double target grass move that sets up leech seed on each opponent it hits, sounds OP but it's meganium after all so wont be too game breaking
Qotd: Happy everyone saying Meganium already...so ill say Emboar. Emboar should have its special attack and defense switched. Give it Rock Head over reckless for the freely spammable flare blitz. Also make it way heavier so Heat Crash can really hit
They really made a dark and brooding version of Samurott and gave it a move called Ceaseless Edge
qotd: my favorite has always been torterra besides giving it more coverage just bring back megas or dynamax and let me see the turtle in its final form
Is VGC double battle-focused? I usually just play single battles on Pokémon Showdown.
Yes, VGC is always doubles!
Yea. My boy Samurott is getting to shine 😊
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Can you make a team with Umbreon in it with Regulation D?
Hisuian Decidueye, Typhlosion, Lilligant, Goodra, and a few more left
Giving Empoleon Swift Swim and more Special Attacks would make it so better in Rain Teams I guess
I would swap Sceptile's attack and special attack, while giving it Sharpness as hidden ability as well
Do you recommend any mon to replace dragonite? I love this team! I love H-Sam! But i hate dragonite lol its boring
Banded dragapult has had some good results with chien pao as well, and even won naic.
@@theBhavMan i do like dragapult. How would you run it? I see its tera type of choice was steel
Make primarinas liquid voice boost sound moves power by 1.3 and give it access to boom burst
Why the ghost tera on tornadus when you have covert cloak?
Helps against Choice Band Normal Tera Dragonite Extreme Speed with Chien Pao - that’s one of the few ways you can prevent Prankster Tailwind
U r awesome Aaron!
Nice video 🍿
QOTD: Making Serperior grass/dragon would help it alot with taking attack and have more damage on to pokemon that resist grass
Question of the Day: I'd like to see Delphox be better. In terms of buffing it's current form, I'd simply give it Expanding Force. Just like Hisuian Typhlosion is the Tailwind Eruption counterpart to Torkoal, I feel Delphox should be the speedy Expanding Force counterpart to Armarouge.
QOTD: Let caterpie learn some moves! It can’t learn a move,
be taught a move and it even doesn’t have any egg moves in gen 9. It’s so tough trying to climb the ladder with string shot, tackle and harden. Luckily it evolves early into the powerhouse metapod but if it could learn TM’s it would make a big difference.
Typhlosion is my fav and it's never been that good, which sucks. They should give it an ability that increases the power of spread moves because basically all it's good for is clicking Eruption and it also has access to Earthquake and Rock Slide.
Nah if you really want to make it broken just give it drought lol
