Tom Green’s delivery is amazing. The way he words everything just makes it so perfect. The “as well” and “I guess” just makes it so much more awkward and deadpan.
Knowing Tom I'm about 99% sure he was. Quite obviously for the lulz but no more scripted than your average prank call or fng around with telemarketers/scammers.
Seriously. I'm not sure if the employees at the Subway location near my job actually got hired of if they're fulfilling some kind of court ordered service.
This clip reminded me just how much Tom's comedy works from his delivery. Some of his concepts are clever, some are just unusual situations, some are very good.... but even the simplest work because of his rare ability to hang in there no matter what. His voice reflected no sign of anticipation, impatience, change in emotion whatsoever when most people would lose it or run away. His control is marvelous
for real, I wish Tom Green didn't get such a cultural stigma around him for being an asshole/troll. He's like if Andy Kaufman got stuck in the women's wrestling phase of his career. I would love to hear interviews with how he was able to keep it together in this situation, or how he would practice not laughing. Aesthetically, I also love how lo-fi they are, as much as I love comedy that takes advantage of editing or framing, it's great to see that he can capture so much with so little. I watched Freddy Got FIngered again recently (that's why I'm watching these videos), and he is seriously underrated...it's amazing that that movie got made. It's like a Vienniese Actionist performance piece + a david lynch film + a traditional rom com...so great!

In this case Tom is dominant as a taller white person slightly older whereas the Asian boy views himself as a shorter Asian servant. Since he is the submissive person he went along without questioning even after it was obviously a prank/joke
this is honestly, in my opinion, the greatest "live reaction" or "man on the street" gag ever performed. its simple, understated and nuanced. simply pushing against a silent convention we all assume to be true: you cant just keep adding veggies to your sub at Subway forever

Yep, I was constantly washing my hands at my first job in food service at 15. We didn’t wear gloves. Honestly, gloves are much easier to cross contaminate, because people are under the impression that since they’re wearing gloves they can touch anything and everything...it’s not like people are washing gloves.

the genius to this is its not a repetitive order, usually after the lettuce, tomato and mayo he throws in an extra vegetable to make the employee think that the customer needs something different. After about 6 rounds of this, the employee knows whats up and the sandwich is piling up too much lol
