  • A man rescued from the White Rock pier during a recent B.C. storm is apologizing for his 'foolishness'. Oren Perry was on the boardwalk with his family as high winds whipped boats into the pier, which was eventually split in half. He was stranded alone and had to be rescued by a Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter from Vancouver Island.

How much an hour does that rescue chopper cost to operate? Great rescue in those winds the chopper crew definitely deserve a Christmas present hint hint.

I’m glad he lived to regret being foolish, and that he stated his regret publicly so that others might learn.

People go out onto the pier during winds storms all the time. The Pier was fully opened then. They were out there long before the mooring and/boats got loose and broke the pier in to two. Only when this unexpected break up of the pier happened, did police tell everyone to get off the pier. What were the people trapped at the END of the supposed to do; jump into the water? Most of them risked their lives and ran and jumped and passed through the breaking up of the pier as it was breaking up. This guy choose to stay at the end of the pier and this was probably safer.
I don't understand some comments saying this guy should pay for the rescue.

Was the pier closed to the public?
If so, he should be fined as a deterrent.
