I look forward to the Rat Fink Reunion every year! I have attended most of the reunions held in Manti, Utah... But.. the one I will always remember, is The Rat Fink Reunion 2014! I had just returned from a vacation trip to Orlando Florida, and had just a few days before summer school would begin, and would be back to work. So, accompanied by my daughters, son in law, and his cousins... We all took off for the Reunion in Manti! I wanted to video a few of the cars for my RUclips channel... which I did! We ladies were standing in line to the ladies restroom, when I spied a 64 Chevy Impala convertible!! I had my oldest daughter take a pic of me standing next to the Impala. My youngest daughter took off to meet up with some of her friends.. and my oldest daughter was wanting to get something to eat. She went in search of some bottled water, while I continued to video cars. I saw some vendors selling Rat Fink items under some canopies over from the rest rooms... So... I ventured over! I was gazing at the various pin striped and hand painted Rat Fink inspired items... one of which was a folding chair, painted with the Rat Fink, and the year... COOL!! As I stood gazing at the chair... I was approached by a tall, rather enthusiastic, silver-haired gent, wearing an official Rat Fink Artist shirt! He began to be very effervescent about that folding chair... bubbling on about how cool it was.. and the fact it would look great anywhere!! I thought he was trying to sell me that chair!!! I more or less blew him off!! I made some comment that I was looking for a birthday present for my daughter... and those pin-striped high heals were more her thing!! Next came the Rat Fink Museum. I don't know why... But I videoed the fence mural, and immediately put it up on my RUclips channel, from my cell phone. Right away..It began to get all of these hits!! What???? After I got home, I decided to check on my channel... More views! My channel had been linked to another channel.. also about the Rat Fink Reunion....TOY MAN TELEVISION... So... I watched! The 67 Mustang with 4 point racing harnesses had me intrigued... The driver was interesting as well...as he mentioned he had been to the Rat Fink Reunion in Manti, Utah.... and in the back ground... my home-land was passing by! My thoughts were... WHO IS THIS GUY???? Manti is a small town, as well as all the other tiny towns there.... Everybody knows everybody!! So.... I commented on his show.... I AM FROM THERE!! He responded back!! As it turned out... He owned a house in Spring City... Less than 2 miles from my house!! We kept in touch, as he lived in Salt Lake.. We eventually met in person, at his studio... LAB 6. The rest of the story is history! We often laugh over the way that the Rat Fink had brought us together... as our paths had been crossing over many years, and many places. One day, as we were planning our wedding, I was showing Dale the picture of me by the 64 Impala... We discovered that way off in the distance... by the canopies... There is Dale!! My future husband! Standing by that chair!!
Those were wild and crazy times! After getting "kicked to the curb" in So Cal, I returned to Utah to help my brother's family take car of our mother. And got to go the the Rat Fink Reunion for the first time as it was the first time I wasn't teaching. 2014 was actually my 2nd Rat Fink, been back for a year at that point. ANYWAY. You just never know what will happen while you are screwing around...
My brother used to collect the Ratfink models. These came with ratfink body parts, such as arms with hands. We used to pull pranks such as putting a pair of purple ratfink model arms in the toilet, with the hands sticking out from under the lid! Lots of laughter. Thanks for the walk down memory lane
Hi Greg and Jeanne! A great Rat Fink Reunion! They are sort of like Christmas, in that while they are great, I'm glad they are only ones a year! We have been so darn busy. GAD. We want (need) to get back on the road, but projects here are dogging us. No doubt we will just get this under control in time for snow. And Christmas. And cold. Yuk. Just editing next weeks show. 3 shows I think. BUt we will see as I work on it. Or them.
Ed was quite a guy. Odd ball. What I loved about him. Hung with the worst people, yet was always telling them to clean up the cursing. Imagine, telling the biggest baddest Hells Angel to stop dropping F bombs and getting away with it. That was Ed.
I miss going to the reunion, my late wife and I lived in Manti for a few years before we moved here to Missouri, thank you for taking us along with you to this years Rat fink Rick B aka Plastic butcher
Fun video I grew up redrawing ODD ROD stickers as a kid so from that I found out of Big Daddy Roth and Rat Fink. I have been to a few of his shows through the years, seen a nice documentary on him and really wished at times I could build a hotrod. I am also show it would look partially like a Batmobile! Cheers!
In 3rd and 4th Grade - 1964-1965 I would buy this gum that came with Rat Fink Monster Stickers and plastered them all over my books and pee chee folders ! I also enjoyed building the Outlaw as a Revell model as a kid ! !
It was fun. The kids are window shopping and the store has put some monster shirts in the window. Beve and his friend decide which ones they want and go in search of money and permission. To find the shirts are not seen as cool by their parents.
Thanks for another great show. Wow, this is screwing around for the masses. The "steam punk" cars were different kinda like screwing around for those on a budget haha. See you next week.
+ToyMan *Lots of short-terms at Rat Fink.* I'd say that the Edsel was Ford Motor Company's reaction to Chrysler, every bit as was the 1957 Chevrolet General Motors' - remember "Suddenly It's 1960"? Problem for Ford was, the Edsel didn't sell. But Ford gained sales for 1957 with a regular redesign, and Chevrolet nearly kept up with a V8 perfected in a third-year chassis.
Hi, did either of you go to school in Manti or Ephrim? My father in law, Albert Antrei was teacher at Ephrim middle school and retired as principal of Manti High School. My 1st wife, Charlotte was their daughter (she passed in 1975).
Dang now you got me drooling again. Don't know if there's any hope for ya with that Ffffffford syndrome but maybe with time. you know what they say "If you can't afford Dodge, Dodge a Fffffford. LOL
In Utah... If you take a map of Utah... and find the very center of the map, you are near Manti... which is the town where Ed Roth moved to, not too long before he passed. His wife, Ilene, has lived in Manti for many years... The first week of every June, is the Rat Fink Reunion, held in Manti. Pretty cool!!
He was quite a character! Almost as strange as his alter ego rat Fink. Come to the reunion! Ilean puts on one heck of a good party, complete with ice cream. (banana splits). We will be in Blue. We hope. Third year we have tried to get Blue there.
Growing up in the early 60's in Missouri if you where called a rat fink it meant that you where bad tattletale of the worst kind and you had no friends and got beat up a lot... Then when the mid 60's and 70's rolled in and Big Daddy had been around for a while by then the name Rat Fink took on a whole new meaning... If you had a cool car you'd get yourself a Rat Fink sticker on your car and then you were really cool. Then they came out with the rat fink sticker collection and if by chance you had all of them stuck across your lower back window then your car went from cool to RAD!!! LOL,LOL.... Now days I don't think it really matters. What my grandkids call "sick" I guess that's their word for cool... LOL... Well anyway SICK is the right word for what they think is cool these days!!! LOL,LOL So I guess the point I was getting at was how the meaning of a word or words can change as the culture changes... BUT one thing still stands out as a cool car even my great grand kids well tell you that the 1964-1969 Mustangs are cool cars But my wife says the 1966 is the coolest!!! LOL,LOL... She loved that car but back in the 1980 times were hard and we had to let it go because we couldn't afford to fix it... That was a sad day for sure... Thanks for another great video...BBE
Someone should explain to the narrator that the term “cobbled” when referring to something that was built by a car or motorcycle guy is about as low as it gets, and people will be truly insulted ! Also Steampunk is nothing like “Rat Rods”
Steve Kafka I think they just did. But by saying “ someone should explain” they intend to be very condescending. Moreover her or his experience is not everyone’s. My friends and I have always used “cobbled together” and we have no intent to insult each other. As to steampunk according to Wikipedia “Steampunk may also incorporate additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre.” So I stand by that. Now why do you get a kick outta trolling people’s work?
Toy Man Television different parts of the country often have different use of slang and at different times, I’ve never heard cobbled it up used any other way anywhere in this country any other way, and my trolling is to let the younger people have the benefit of my experience ,not to be condescending , just for order...

Another Rat Fink reunion made ever better by the views of the car show(s). Well done. Greg and Jeanne.
Hi Greg and Jeanne! A great Rat Fink Reunion! They are sort of like Christmas, in that while they are great, I'm glad they are only ones a year! We have been so darn busy. GAD. Yes it is. Just takes two people who love screwing around with toys.
Lots of cool cars kids! Wow, there's something at this show for everyone. Thank you, and see you next Sunday.
Thanks for your kind words! Life is like that... A little something for everyone! Never boring!
Boy that brought back some memories! I remember building ratfink models when I was a kid! Thanks for the reminder!
I think every boy, and all the cool girls, built at least ONE Roth model, usually Rat Fink. But the others were cool too.
wow thank you for another great adventure my father-in-law was friends with Ed God bless you and yours and safe travels on your adventures
Ed was quite a guy. Odd ball. What I loved about him. Hung with the worst people, yet was always telling them to clean up the cursing. Imagine, telling the biggest baddest Hells Angel to stop dropping F bombs and getting away with it. That was Ed.

Rat Fink was on Leave it to Beaver? That's one piece I don't remember-- I grew up watching the show. I want to hear more about that...
It was fun. The kids are window shopping and the store has put some monster shirts in the window. Beve and his friend decide which ones they want and go in search of money and permission. To find the shirts are not seen as cool by their parents.
Do any of the older guys attend this RF in Manti? Lodging ,or lack of have kept me away…

Rat rods are fun!! WEIRD and fun!!
Enjoyed your video. When I visit the states I'd love to take in the Reunion.
You should if you can! So much (weird) fun! Ed was one of a kind, yet at the reunion there are hundreds of other "one-of-a-kind" people there!
Is there camping on the site or nearby?
awesome
The REAL Rat Fink reunions were held in Southern California in the 1980s and 1990s
