It seems Angelina is always willing to dive into the deep end of the pool to express emotional difficulties.
She’s my favorite talented young singers!
This is one of my favorites. The lyrics are a little much for her age but so are several of her jazz and blues songs, and it's really about her vocals and delivery. But I do think it was worth you pointing it out. The changes in her voice in this are remarkable. Lol, I've shown this to some and often they say, that little girl is not singing that, you can't even see her mouth. Lol.
I have listened to this so many times over the years and have never tired of her version despite the karaoke backing track. Not to mention I am in love with her lower register.
This has always been one of my favorites of AJ’s definitely top 5.. The thing that stands out to me is her tone she was able to achieve.. To me with Angelina it’s always the tone .. Other songs from this period that uses a similar vocal quality are the mesmerizing “ Stay” Adele’s “ Someone Like You” and another Lana Del Rey cover Young and Beautiful.. One of the things that make her a vocal genius is her ability to change her singing tone I would like to hear her use this tone again but I guess that would be like asking Picasso to go back to his Blue period when he was doing cubism.. The girl with a thousand voices indeed…
I hope and pray Angelina's one of a kind beautiful soulful voice is not overpowered by studio production and producers who think more of their skill than hers. I will be so disappointed if a producer takes her in a pop direction. Angelina is a soul, jazz, blues singer. Oh, she can sing anything and do it better than anyone but Angelina's wheelhouse, and she's proved it with hundreds of stunning covers, are songs of great emotion. Listen to her do, THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE around the age of twelve, it's genius and very telling.
You’ll be glad to know that written into her contract with Republic Records is the proviso that she is in complete control of her music output. She is mentored by Rob Christie CEO Republic Records LA. When asked how his experience mentoring her was he answered” Actually she’s mentoring me”..he’s a two time Grammy winning artist..RR know who they’ve hired and know to leave her well alone.
@@kevingood4644 Thanks for the info Kevin. I wrote that before hearing her Old Enough EP. I realize now Angelina is in full control. The EP is really well written and really well produced and it's the best recording that I've heard in many many years. Can't wait for the complete a!bum.
The song is a cover of Lana Del Rey's hit Born to die. Just fabulous 😊
I love this song. You’re right… this makes an excellent introduction to Angelina Jordan.
I was following Angelina before her AGT performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. And this song did for me what Bohemian Rhapsody did for many later fans of Angelina - this song was so profoundly beautiful, I knew the first time I heard it that Angelina was not merely good but out of this world.

That was perfect, I really love music that stirs the soul along with the words, this song has both, fabulous, Angelina sung it beautifully and I betcha she could sing it flawlessly now, I agree with you that if you wanted to introduce someone to Angelina send this video to them, the song is saying to me, you don't know the hour of your death so take a chance on love if you think you have found it because you never know this might be the One and death might be just around the corner, if I believed I have found the One I would definitely go for it, even if crash and burn is the outcome because you never know you just never know 🙏❤️🔥🙏
She applies the jazz nuance she learned from Billie Holiday whenever performing
a heartfelt ballad, and as great as Lana's original was, her not being a jazz singer
like Angelina, makes it impossible for her to bring forth the emotional penetration
this girl is able to do.
By the way, this performance instigated a change in pop filter placement. Lots of people doubted she actually sang this song because they couldn't see her mouth.

I would agree about your suggesting this as an intro to Angelina, except that you mostly can't see her mouth because of the pop filter, and Angelina "newbies" would cry "That can't possibly be her singing!" (Yes, I have seen 2 reactors say that! They just hadn't been educated yet! lol)

The only issue with this as an introduction is that newcomers are convinced she's hiding behind the pop filter and it's not actually her voice. The rest of us know better. :)
I don’t think Angelina has sung an age appropriate song, but her mother only put the brakes on a few like the Amy Winehouse songs, another reason that people’s idea that “I’m Still Holding Out For You” was inappropriate and that’s was the reason she didn’t acquire the rights is bogus. She didn’t pick that song up at the time because she was working on her own original song “Shield”, so it probably didn’t even know how good a song it was or that it would have that widespread appeal, because she just did a demo because they asked her, no more no less.
“Born to die” is most likely referring to the relationship dying, “You and I, we were born to die.”

I assume this is a reaction from your archives. I find the repetitive nature of this song's lyrics to be a bit annoying, but she performed it so beautifully that I've listened to it hundreds of times.
If you want to hear the original Lana Del Rey was the one know for singing this back in the day.

There's something I don't understand. I've been watching people react to Angelina Jordan for 3 years now. As of late I see those same reactors posting her videos as if they're new and I know for a fact that I've seen these videos one to two years ago. What's up with that...
I think Mr B L is rebuilding his you tube presence on a new site..I’m sure he responded early in these new releases saying that he had a problem with his original you tube site..(100k+subs) from memory too many strikes..so he’s releasing his early work that he knows won’t get strikes..this is my understanding of what’s happening..you’re not wrong these are rereleases …

unfortunately this video is almost entirely ignored by reactors. not only it is great, but you should go listen to the original.... she does it 10 times better than the original which was popular.
I disagree, it's not a good introductory performance for people that don't know her, because it's too good. Since the pop filter blocks her mouth you can't tell whether she is singing it, so reactors in which this was their 1st time hearing her, doubt whether she is really singing this.
No one can sing like Angelina. And this is absolutely Angelina singing!

But if you are a reactor who has never heard of Angelina & you see this little girl while hearing this mature adult voice, they question whether it's her singing, especially since her mouth is blocked by the pop filter.
