Before i go on this tangent, i just want to make clear that this video is GREAT. What i'm about to say really has nothing to do with this video because all of the covers are truly flawless, but it did remind me of something i've asked for a long time. Why does everybody go crazy over that break down from remembrance? It also doesn't help that i feel that the entire rest of the song is way better than the breakdown and i feel its getting discredited. Anyways, tangent over, great cover. Ps: sorry for more than likely making a lot of commenters mad
Thanks a lot, mate. I get what you're saying, and I appreciate your input. I feel like it's polyrhythmic in a way that not too alienizing to the listener, it's not like a Meshuggah riff that blows you away and then makes you give up on trying to keep up with the song. It's bouncy for sure but in a little teasing way that keeps you engaged throughout the outro, tastefully written. I think many great and iconic riffs are made out of just one note, especially with chugs and cool rhythms. Also, the context of the song is very important, in my opinion. Sometimes dynamic structure and other times the buildup that leads to that riff gives that heaviness. The rest of the song is overlooked, sadly. Cheers!
Hell yea, tremolo picking between the chugs is so simple yet so groovy. With down picking, you get punchier sound with stronger pick attacks, that's why I tend to stick to down picks until certain fast tempos. Oh, yea, they're all bangers for sure. If I made this list from 5 riffs instead of 3, my life would be so much easier lol Thanks, mate, I appreciate your comment!
Another world, I wondered what band made that riff. I heard it one day on the xfinity metal channel (930? Maybe idk) but I heard it and figured out what they were doing in a couple mins and I play that riff from time to time plus mutations of that idea concept
Great riff choices man! Also, the way you hold your guitar pick is wild! Misha from Periphery used to hold his guitar pick in a similar way, but he eventually changed it to a more "proper" technique after seeing how Jake and Mark use the proper technique. He changed it because the way he used to hold it placed limitations on what he could do. I believe you can find the video of him talking about that on RUclips. Anyway, sick playing man!
Thanks a lot man, appreciated it. Oh it's funny that you mentioned that, I'm going through a similar phase atm, I've recently injured myself after years of bad playing habits and I also can relate to that limitations cause I was feeling stuck in some aspects especially in rhythm playing. On my way to achieving that "proper technique" haha Cheers, thanks for the comment!
Wow, thanks man. I think Archetype Gojira is really great, it punches through the mix with its bright characteristic, especially when you hard-pan guitars to the left and right. Other than that, not much really going on, really. Oh also, just git gud haha
This was awesome!!! I was so glad to see Where Dragons Dwell and Wolf Down the Earth, two of my favorites that are also the only two Gojira songs I know how to cover so far. Keep it up, would love to see you play live some day!!
Heyy, thanks a lot. I really appreciate it. Yeah, wanted to include some of their more emotional and dynamic songs to make the list more diverse and representative of their discography. I'm glad you find your favorites in there too. Also, the mandolin is a beautiful instrument. I remember having one lying around in my home when I was a kid, and I liked it, but I lost interest over time for whatever reason. It would be interesting to hear Gojira riffs on a mandolin. You should make that happen and upload it, haha. Welcome to the channel! cheers

Oh, I'm happy to hear that, Yannick. I tried to encapsulate their discography in a short and precise format with guitar tones close to their original work. Thanks a lot for your comment!
Maybe a couple of hours. Honestly, if you only listen without seeing the notes, it feels harder than it actually is. Then I go from extremely slow to learn the pattern, and after memorizing it, I speed it up. And voilà! haha
I have a video where I show how I go about recording guitar covers. There you can see the method I use to get a good sound. For this one, I used Archetype Gojira and recorded guitar on two tracks and panned them hard left and right. That's the basic trick for getting a good full-sounding guitar tone(double tracking). Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions, take care!
Umm I think it was just regular dropped C. Why you chose 448hz is it because of that tape effect thing(similar to the ride the lightning)where it slightly makes the notes sharper because it's sped up a little? .I'm asking because don't know much about that technical stuff :)

Thank you, man. I used Archetype Gojira if you want to check it out.
Gojira is part of bands I have heard so much good about but never ook the time to really dive into their stuff. A mistake I feel I should correct in the very near future...
Oh yes, absolutely you need to correct that mistake haha Have fun and enjoy their songs, mate, cheers!
Backbone, Vacuity and the breakdown for Born For One Thing deserves to be in there but amazing list nonetheless!
It's one of my favorite riffs from the whole Gojira discography. It's so fun to play!
sick!
Thanks a lot, mate!
I just fell in love with a new band thank you
Oh really? I'm so happy to hear that, I wish I was you, experiencing Gojira for the first time. You're welcome!
Best stranded cover I’ve ever heard
Oh, thanks a lot, Kelton. Happy to hear that!
BRO HOW U GET UR TONE THIS GODLIKE
Wow, thanks man. I think Archetype Gojira is really great, it punches through the mix with its bright characteristic, especially when you hard-pan guitars to the left and right. Other than that, not much really going on, really.
Oh also, just git gud haha
Backbone! Hits so hard
Yea looking back to it, I really dunno why I didn't include that one you're right haha
This was awesome!!! I was so glad to see Where Dragons Dwell and Wolf Down the Earth, two of my favorites that are also the only two Gojira songs I know how to cover so far. As a mostly mandolin player, it of course sounds quite different when I cover them, but you absolutely CRUSHED these faithful covers. (Incidentally, Toxic Garbage Island is one I am currently working on!)
Thanks so much for sharing! You got a new sub now, for whatever it's worth.
Welcome to the channel! cheers
@@0secmusic9 You def get first dibs on listening when I get there, hopefully soon! I don't have any video equipment, but just got some good audio recording stuff, so the next step is a mini-lesson on producing I guess! :)
(Though it's worth saying up front that I can't cover them note for note - between the speed and the ... challenge of translating them, I just try to get something close enough to capture the feeling).
@@TaeKwonHottie Haha, I'd be happy to. Just let me know when it's ready! Don't worry about the equipment and the note-for-note thing; just go for it when you feel like it. I'm sure it will sound good. Also, I think the note-for-note approach isn't that creative or engaging. Hearing something with a personal touch and a different style is always more interesting, even if it's imperfect or whatever, in my opinion. Of course, I can think of exceptions and other ways around it, but that would be my take on it:) rock on!
Rememberance reminds me of destroy erase improve. So godlike.
Oh yea, for sure dude!
That the art of dying riff is my faborute guitar riff as of now
Right on man! It's also easy to play and has a great vibe to it!
Love is one of my all time favorite Gojira songs, happy you played it!
It's definitely in my top 3 Gojira songs. That riff is so cool with that right-hand slide, PEW PEW haha Oh, my pleasure!
backbone should clearly be one of the mars to sirius riffs tho
Yea, but only three riffs :/ Sacrifices were made haha
I used to listen to terra incognita and the link front to back nearly a daily basis throughout high school. Blow me away you(niverse), rememberance, lizard skin, in the forest, etc some of the nastiest riffs I've ever heard
I discovered Gojira with L'enfant Sauvage, I didn't listen to any of their songs when I was little, I envy you in that regard haha Yes, dude, they are such bangers, I agree. Cheers!
@@0secmusic9 they were my first concert too around when l'enfant sauvage came out 😎 it was a tour with slayer.
@@ATthemusician Geez, what an incredible experience that must've been.
The Indians riff is a personal favorite of mine.
The outro riff reminds me of Remembrance, that's why I left it out. But that was a great one, for sure.
Indians is my favorite song, I love the vocals they are so aggressive and different from other gojira songs and stuff
"Wolf" instead of the back half of "Vacuity"??
Great playing throughout the video, their riffs are so fun an accessible.
Yea, Wolf Down The Earth's vibe is different than the rest in that album IMO, and I kinda dig that part, and since this is my personal favorite type of list, that's why I went with it. Thanks a lot, mate, exactly!
@@0secmusic9 Chuck's riffs in Death are really fun to play as well, if you haven't heard/learned some of those yet.
@@FifatlasHD Yess, mate, Death is also one of my favorites I know their whole discography. Speaking of Death, I shared a new cover of Crystal Mountain check it out if you want. Cheers!
That love pick slide is so hard to get right each time.
Finding the sweet spot is the hardest but after you get comfy with it, then it becomes pretty natural I'd say. Thanks for watchin!
All three riffs for From Mars to Sirius could have been from Flying Whales. Goddamn what a song.
Truee haha Gojira is one of those bands that you can't even pick your favorites from one song, let alone a whole album. Cheers, mate!
Damnit this was painful...nice job dude
Yea ikr? haha Thanks a lot, mate!
Inward Movement is one of their most underrated songs, so awesome
Agreed, I love its slightly old-school death metal vibe to it. Nice to see you also dig that one!
The Link is so underrated
Great selection honestly, glad you showed love to inward movement
Thanks man, it was fun to play as well
I'm happy to see Wolf Down The Earth on this list. One of my favourites from them, it truly embodies their sound, yet it's hardly ever talked about.
Glad to hear that! Yea, I also find that song to be a little underappreciated. Maybe it flew under the radar since other songs in that album are relatively more outstanding, idk just a thought haha
Satan is lawyer should have been one. Sick video. Great picks
Edit: Amazing picks
Which riff from Satan is Lawyer do you think is the best? Honestly, dude, this video was extremely hard for me just because I had to leave out so many terrific riffs because otherwise, it would be their whole discography you know? haha Thanks a lot, glad you've liked the selection and the riffage!
edit: Now, that I listened to it again. I think I'd personally choose the riff that comes after that double kicks part if I'd have add it to my list.
@@0secmusic9 totally
Man, Gojira used to be great. I really liked from Mars to L’Efant (I know that’s not the right spelling) albums. When they dropped their death metal edge, I pretty much checked out on the band.
Oh, I see, I'm on the other side of the spectrum, usually, if a band changes style, pushes the boundaries, and/or evolves, I tend to like their new direction and appreciate their evolving sound.
It's L'Enfant Sauvage (think Infant/Savage)
Inward moment got that A New Level vibe
Oh yes, I can hear that, not the first thing that came to my mind tho. Thanks for pointing that out!
LOVE is such a great song
Yea, not only the breakdown but the whole song is amazing.
Sounds great
Thanks, happy to hear that!
The Link is the most underrated. Like straight death metal phase Gojira.
Yea, I'd also add Terra Incognita to that. Lots of great riffs on those records!
@@0secmusic9 Terra is great too but I feel like on Link you can hear there sound really taking shape but there is still so much rawness it ends up sounding like Morbid Angel half the time
@@mikesbadopinions9671 Oh, I see what you're saying. Yea, you can totally see their progression and development in that album, both songwriting and sonic-wise. Now that you mentioned it, not too long ago I made that same Morbid Angel reference to someone haha Cheers dude!
Great choices! You represented the band and each album very well!
Oh, I'm happy to hear that, Yannick. I tried to encapsulate their discography in a short and precise format with guitar tones close to their original work. Thanks a lot for your comment!
How long it took to get Rememberance right? It’s straight up mindfuck!🤯
Maybe a couple of hours. Honestly, if you only listen without seeing the notes, it feels harder than it actually is. Then I go from extremely slow to learn the pattern, and after memorizing it, I speed it up. And voilà! haha
I'm so glad you included the art of dying outro one of my favourite riffs AOT
Yea sure, dude. I also enjoy that riff a lot, so tasty.
how do i get my guitar to sound like THIS
I have a video where I show how I go about recording guitar covers. There you can see the method I use to get a good sound. For this one, I used Archetype Gojira and recorded guitar on two tracks and panned them hard left and right. That's the basic trick for getting a good full-sounding guitar tone(double tracking). Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions, take care!
@@0secmusic9
tysm, i really appreciate it man :D
How to choose
Nice playing and video overall :)
Thank you very much, glad you dig it!
Is this in standard tuning?
The majority are in standard D tuning. However, a couple of them are in drop C tuning. Also, The Art of Dying was in CGCD#GC.
Killed it !!. P.S I think their hardest riff from here is fire is everything , those octave slides are nuts
Thanks! Yea, very difficult to get it right constantly I also think that was the hardest riff on that list.
Ahh… I’m enjoying this😎
Thanks, dude, glad to hear that!
Dude, Fortitude one was so so calming!!!!
Yea, dude, it gives me a campfire-type of feeling, so soothing. Cheers!
Wisdom comes 🤘🤘🤘
Yup🤘
I tune my guitar to Dropped C (A=448hz) for The Gift of Guilt. I find that tuning is more accurate. How do you tune your guitar for that song?
Umm I think it was just regular dropped C. Why you chose 448hz is it because of that tape effect thing(similar to the ride the lightning)where it slightly makes the notes sharper because it's sped up a little? .I'm asking because don't know much about that technical stuff :)
That was sick
Thank you, dude!
Where Dragons Dwell is absolutely beautiful. Love that riff.
Instant goosebumps, for sure. It has a special place. Thanks for your comment, cheers!
I have to see them live, I SHALL🤟
Yes, I also need to see them live. One day, hopefully!
absolutely amazing brother. good shit 👍
I appreciate it, bro, glad you like it!🤘
