Trivium has been making more of the former these days, they're trying to become relevant again and it's the music that's suffering. In short, they sold out.

Trivium never let’s up. They never take a song off. There are no fillers. This record just keeps getting better and better the deeper in you go. The riffs, the progressions, the breakdowns, and I heard Matt say in an interview, they put lots of thought into the various choruses. Awesome record.
This is probably the best piece of instrumentalisation that Matt and Corey have ever written. Hearing them both aggressively bounce off of one another in the riffs and solo's is something they should continue to do. Alex's drumming is insane. Josh Wilbur also balanced the production really well, what he does is usually trash as he makes the drums sound way too loud which drowns out the guitars, but he actually produced a good album here.

Travis was awesome. After he left, it seemed as if there was a giant void left in this band for 10 years. After this album, I'm convinced the void has been filled. This is Trivium finding themselves again. What a badass album. This ties with Shogun.
