Alr I've seen a comment about the books so I'll explain
Greg in my take originally gets corrupted in the live action diary of a wimpy kid rodrick rules movie. The darkness traveled there first because live action characters are kinda the weakest version of a character. And since the darkness corrupts every version of that character the books also got corrupted as well. Manny survived because well he's fucking Manny

This is the best concept. Everyone looks like the actual style.
