What a cool project. I love the piece looking like a stove burner. Your comments are helpful and amusing. It’s testament to a good teacher that you can make jokes at your own expense, as your “what do I know comment”. Good session to watch.
I have often been told to ‘keep it sweet and simple’. In my case it’s ‘keep it simple stupid’ 😂. Thanks for sharing; have a successful 2022; here’s hoping for a healthier one for us all 🌞
I was just drooling over a site called Grizzly and thought of all the beautiful pieces of art you made. Haven’t had time to watch any videos for a week or so …. I was craving a new video
I’ve gotta say Phil that that was really cool and I’m impressed because it reminded me of how my dad used to work and he didn’t like to waste anything and that’s how I am these days and to make a really nice practical thing out of a bit of scrapwood is what I’m all about and the result was fantastic. Thanks for that quick turning lesson have a great day :-)
Hi Phil... Exellent project as always... Loved your new tool ... I'm going to be making one of those!!... I have had a thoroughly entertaining year watching your videos... Take care...All the best.....Andy
Phil, I have been turning on a Jet 1442 lathe for about 18 years. Before that I learned on a homemade lathe that a friend gave me. My 1442 has the reeves pulley system. About 2 years ago I upgraded my 1442 from a 14" lathe to a 18" lathe. This Christmas I passed it down to my son who has expressed an interest in learning the craft. He's a natural. Mrs. Santa gave me the privilege this year of getting a new 1840VSR Jet like yours. I look forward to joining you, playing with my new toy. Watching your channel has proven to me that you and teach an old dog new tricks.
It's always interesting to find a piece of wood and wonder what how it can be used. I have buckets of "scrap" and dig through them every once and a while. It's fun to turn when you don't know what direction you are going. Nice turn, Lee
I see how I can use my own same "3 point homemade tool " (thanks for the word ) , woodturners have to solve problems available tools don't , imagine new cutting edges , that adds to efficiency and fun !
Hey Phil, sorry to here your having some health issues. All the best for the new year, you bring much joy to to hearts of your viewers. Take care, by for now. From New Brunswick Dean.
I too keep all of these odd bits n bob cutoffs, one just never knows. Sometimes they get used as test pieces, or hammers or used to start the bbq! That said, your trivet turned out nicely. The star of the show of course was your one-of-a-kind HF beading tool! Nice work & Happy Health & Happy Holidays to you.
Thank You Phil. .. Thank You Dave from Calmwood Creations. Easy-Pee-Zee .. Always fun wondering into your workshop on a Thursday afternoon. Standing at the end of your lathe watching you create Phil. .. I hope for a HAPPY, RELAXED HOLIDAY AT SHADY ARCES WOODSHOP.. UNTIL NEXT TIME PHIL... Take Care... TM
Hi Phil, As many others have already said that is s lovely looking trivet and a nice easy project as well. I may well be making some of these for my craft fairs. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
I wonder if we are long lost brothers or something ??? I also save almost any scraps of wood. Then after a few years I put them all in the burn pile , so I can start saving again. Neat idea for a quick and easy piece .
Really love the way you give specifics. Most turning videos don't give the info needed. Really great use of a small piece. I am now a new subscriber. Hope to see more soon.
What a neat simple project. When you pulled the trivet off the block I had this thought pop up in my head. Take a piece of that non slip stuff you use and glue it to the back of the trivet. Trim the non slip to hide from sight and "bada bing bada boom", now you have surface protection that will not slip off the counter. Another "hair brain" Bob idea, oh well. ;-) Merry Christmas ;-)
Hi Phil, I've been following you for sometime now and am always inspired by your work. I just took up wood turning 2 years ago after I purchased a 1965 vintage Craftsman lathe.
