  • In this video, travel with Kathy and Dave as they drive 2from Marco Island Florida to the Waterside Mall in Naples Florida. While Dave has made numerous videos in the past making fun of FSD, and still cautions not to overly rely on this new tech, he does see the light and hint of things to come. Call him impressed...

I did an FSD drive last month during the free trial where I had to exit a 4-lane road onto a 2-way service road. After exiting, the service road had a 4-way intersection but a 3-way stop with me having the right-of-way, and I had a left had turn on the service road, meaning an 180 degree turn from my highway direction. My Model Y hesitated at the 4-way 3-stop sign service road intersection, and I just thought it was having trouble. I nearly goosed it to go, but then I saw a woman pushing a baby carriage crossing the service road to the left. In other words, FSD saw the woman with baby carriage before me, and was stopping. Excellent!.

Based on vids I've seen, that's a common thing. A famous example was, not even FSD but I think AP, big intersection multiple lanes all directions, light turns green Tesla start to go normally then inexplicably abruptly breaks from just 5 or 10mph, the driver is like: "WTF?"--then the car to his right which kept going got T-boned by a car running the light at maybe 50mph. Serious life threatening accident avoided.

You had “Auto Speed” set to “on”. If you turn this off you can then select the other classic speed offset options. What I do is leave it on Auto but I disengage in slow speed zones if I feel uncomfortable, and when you turn it back on (right away) it will stay at the lower speed.

I'm thankful that you guys are so clear about having hands on wheel and being prepared to take over. Some big channels have been using "FSD cheat devices" for their drives so they mislead other users into thinking it truly is self driving when it shouldn't be.

My FSD trial ended today and yes I am subscribed. I got my Highland for FSD and I love it. Is it a better driver? No, but it is safer and more efficient. I did my own mini 0% challenge today to stress my new home charging and I had to keep turning off FSD because my trip planner kept adding % it is so efficient. I use it for 95% of my drives. I can't wait for 12.4.

I subscribed to FSD for my 2024 MYRWD based on your reviews. We have already paid for the Tesla hardware so the monthly subscription is minimal and can be cancelled. I think if we view it as an assistant driver FSD is well worth the money from a safety standpoint. I was at a red light yesterday and when the light turned green a pedestrian ran in front of my car and FSD handled it perfectly. Thanks for your great reviews.

Sleepy driving about the most dangerous thing we ever do, I know I've had to struggle with that many times, never had a recognized close call but drifting around in the lane is bad enough. Seems every time I'm on I-5 in Cali at night I come across semi truck drivers that are scary to pass as they bounce off the lines obviously dozing.

This video has convinced me to rent FSD for a month and try it out. My Tesla hasn’t been driven in over 5 months and wonder if their one month free trial is still available. Now, we are anxious to see the video with Kathy using FSD. I had the pleasure of meeting this charming lady at a Connecticut EV event hosted by generous Dave.
FSD or not, 9 mph over the speed limit is maximum to avoid a speeding ticket that is very expensive in Florida. In addition, you are penalized with enduring 4 hrs of remedial driver’s education with exams at your expense, online or in a classroom.

You were doing 11 mph over the speed limit of 25 mph because you have Auto Set Speed turned on - if you turn it off, it will use your setting that sets the max speed to some absolute value over the speed limit or - like in our case - some percentage (we use 10%) over the max speed limit ... so in your 25 mph max speed area, it would max out at just 28 mph, if using the 10% over limit that we set for our FSD setting ... just an FYI!

Glad you are finally experiencing FSD.. key thing to understand is most of your/Kathy’s quibbles are ones of preference, as opposed to being “critical” safety issues. Fact is, FSD in its current form is vastly safer than human drivers, even if sometimes it behaves a little differently than humans might prefer.. also, to Kathy’s concern about pedestrians and bicyclists coming our of your condo complex, I guarantee FSD is safer than humans for those situations

    • @martindbp
      @martindbp 14 дней назад

It's not safer than a human driver, there is a safety critical disengagement every 300 miles or so. While supervised the combination of FSD and human is safer though.

Hello David and kathy. I also just got my complemetry FSD on my 22 model 3. Fisrt time I tried it was driving to the Walmart. When it got to the begginnig of the parking lot , it stopped and the steering started doing the same as when you got to the intersection of 41. Funny, It didnt know what to do! I also think that when it makes a right hand turn it get a little close to the curb. But I love it! The 2nd run It drove me to my daughter's house 45 minutes away right to the front door without any intervention. Amazing! Please keep making videos from Marco Island. When I watch feels like I'm there and never left!

At 19:30, that "howdy doodie time" you were experiencing with the braking was because you were going through an intersection with a flashing yellow light. It saw a yellow light then started to brake, and it took it a couple of seconds to realize it was flahing yellow to know it was ok to keep going.

I know for certain the most dangerous *I've ever been* is sleepy behind the wheel.
Once had to be at Reno, NV airport by early morning, was end of finals week, minimal sleep all week. Couldn't stay awake no matter what I did at 3:00 am, kept drifting, scaring self and starting to doze again in seconds. But it was winter, maybe 10 or 20F over the Sierras from Central Valley, Cali, so I turned off the heater, rolled the window half down *and then stayed alert,* very uncomfortable but alert.

I agree with you that the autopilot likes to stay in the left lane. When i manually put the car back into the right lane (especially on controlled access freeways) the car will change lanes to the left lane with the text that it is avoiding the merge zone (coming to an on ramp) even though there is no traffic trying to merge onto the highway. Then it never goes back to the right lane. I have checked the minimum lane changes and switched to chill mode but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Yesterday, I went to an antique car show, where I showed off my 1993 MB wagon. However, the highlight of the day was when someone drove to the show with a Model Y with the summon feature. The car drove a block and then back with NO DRIVER. I'm 69 years old and NEVER, EVER thought that I'd see a car go by itself! I used to think that this was stuff of the 1960's cartoon show, "The Jetsons." I took a video of it and I kept saying... "this is crazy!" I have to say that I was truly impressed. It is unbelievable how much technology has changed over just the past 10 to 15 years. In closing, anyone who says Elon Musk is a dummy..they are totally WRONG! Love your videos!

v12.3.6 is much better yet! In San Antonio it has poor lane choosing meaning if the navagation is to take a right in like 4 blocks sometimes it gets into the left lane and not move over to the right lane as soon as normal people would. Gives you a big chance of not being able to in time. Also some lanes that you need to be in to go straight it will choose the turn lane sometimes. However it is oveall a game changer. v12.4 and v12.5 are supposed to be even more "next level". Remember Tesla knows what is 6 months down the road. Will be interesting to see what August 8th will reveal.

I agree, on 4 lane roads (generally speaking) the left lane should be for passing only.
    1. To hang out in the left lane is a discourteous habitat that impairs faster traffic and most likely frustrate them (road rage).
    2. The risk of a head on collision dramatically increases due to a confused driver; be that a drunk driver, someone who has normally driven on the left ( England/Australia etc.), or just plain confused.
-A real life example is of an elderly couple getting on interstate 64w came to a complete stop, looked around and then turned left and headed East. What lane do you think they were in? Yep, THEIR right lane opposing traffic’s s left.
In my years of driving I have experienced at least 4-5 wrong way drivers.
Be courteous be safe, drive in the right lane unless passing.

I seen many accidents where they run charger cord to their apartment dryer outlet for the 240 volt & seen kids tripped over the cord & got hurt. South Carolina (Myrtle Beach & Hilton Head Island areas) & Tennessee (Great Smoky Mountains region) do not have many chargers as the infrastructure is poor in these areas.

Another refinement FSD desperately needs is to STOP hanging out in a cars blind spot on the highway. Been doing that from day 1.

when i had the free month, and i wanted the car to change lanes, and it didn't do it, i just yanked the wheel and moved over myself, of course it disconnected, and i was just frustrated and drove the rest of my trip myself

We subscribed to FSD and the very trip it curbed one of our wheels.

Also hang too much on that. If i were you i d wait for 12.4 and try again.

Seems like only some cars are getting OTA updates - 22 MYLR stuck on 2024.8.9 with beta FSD - tesla says its in spec!

My 22 M3LR updated from 2024.8.9 to 2024.14.6 on 5/11, which I think was the day after it was released. Hopefully, you'll get yours soon. It's the first time I've tried FSD. It drove like a student driver who was behind the wheel for the first time. It slowed down abruptly too far away from stop signs, red lights, and turns, and then crept up to them. But the only time I had to take control was when it came to a new roundabout that was still an intersection on the map. It turned on the left turn signal and acted like it was going to take a shortcut and turn into the oncoming lane, so I took control. I also tried out the autopark feature once. It was slow and hesitant and drove over the line between the parking spaces before correcting and stopping in the correct position. Overall, FSD did pretty well but it not something I want to use in town. I may try it on a road trip next month, although it will cost me $99 because it will be beyond the 30 day free trial.
Update: I took another test drive that included the roundabout that FSD failed previously and this time it navigated it perfectly. No OTA updates in between attempts.

@@embigginator because of the lack of updates when I paid for FSD for a month I got the still-not-ready beta version - 3 close calls & more complete failures. We have a “divergent diamond” intersection and a mile down the same road an intersection with 12 corners! It just gives up on the poor design of our road system. It couldn’t deal with a simple left hand turn on a green arrow!

Still does some dumb stuff. I was on a lane which is merging on the highway, one of those smaller roads which leads to a highway and with no speed signs the car went from 30s to 10 mph in the turn for no reason. I almost got rear ended if I didn’t smash the gas To go. Def need to keep an eye on it. With that said it does do a great job with stop signs and red lights etc. it’s NOT PERFECT AND DO NOT DEPEND ON IT 100% !!

Dave, I do think we need to start informing customers that it is really (enhanced cruise control, and assistance) we can refer to as (E.C.C.A.) that’s why I do believe that the consumers will not get a false sense of security.
Instead of calling it (F.S.D.); why don’t they just call it enhanced cruise control basically what it is, cruise control is depressing that people are calling it full self-driving, which never should be mentioned when driving a vehicle because it gives people a false sense of security, it should be called enhanced cruise control, assistance that’s exactly what it is you are giving the consumer a false sense of security, which is lying to the customer like Elon Musk that he wants people to have a false sense of security with their vehicle’s. Now, should Elon Musk be charged with false advertising I don’t think so, but at the same token, he is truly giving the nation a false sense of security with their vehicle’s. Now I think it’s great, but I should think about the true way of presenting his enhanced cruise control, assistance designs, and exactly what it’s doing.
    Sincerely!
    R.S.V.
