Unfortunately, we couldn't see the gesture shown how Bob was swinging the guitar at 10:00 when he got angry... ah..!
I heard on several occasions that Bob Dylan was unique to work with. (an example) was when he was with the Traveling Wilbury's. Tom Petty and George Harrison were talking about his way of writing the songs. on anything, a napkin or whatever piece of paper he could find. because ideas would come into his head at any time. anyway they were saying how he would write the words on to the paper. and George Harrison said that the letters were really tiny like a spider wrote the word's. that was one of the AWESOME things about the travelling Wilbury's. all the members had a hand in writing the songs.
Heard the same - He sure IS AWESOME !
Supposedly, his hand-writing has changed constantly over the years as well. There are hand-written lyrics of his from different periods and they don't even look like they're written by the same person.
1997 Album of the Year. So many unbelievingly brilliant songs, throughout his unrivaled career. Greatest songwriter of all time...
I met Bob Dylan once in Oakland California, he definitely was a kick in the pants. I hope to meet him once more.
Tell us more!
Most people have no idea how brilliant Bob Dylan is........
But you, being part of a gifted minority, do.....A privilege to even see your comment....
To right mate 🏴👍🎸😄🕶️
That's a great comment, and so true.
@@jamescarr4662 How rudr.
Even those of us who do know probably can’t comprehend the depth of his brilliance
Dylan almost hitting Lanois with a guitar! That was great stuff!
This is gold for we multitude of Bob fans. I'm forever copying Bob in my lounge room. Please don't tell him.
How could anyone resist mimicking Bob Dylan? Just don't let him catch you.
DUDE! How the hell do you CUT AWAY from the part where he's showing how Bob was swinging the guitar?!?! How the hell is THAT a good time to switch to the credits that you've already shown a half dozen times?!?!
i was thinking the same haha
there was absolutely no need for that
Being part of the Time Out of Mind session was an amazing experience. Crazy, fun, enlightening, annoying and a hundred other things!
Check out the Replacements song "Like a Rolling Pin". Legend has it they were recording in the same studios and I guess Dylan walked in as they were recording this track 😅
Criteria Studios in Miami has an incredible history that started in 1958. The list of artists who have recorded there is a who's who. I would love to see you do a dive into that as a subject, both from people like Mark as engineer/ producer, as well as artists. The artistry of engineering music is becoming a lost art. I love that Mark has all the tools from the artistic days.
Protests songs$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
To paraphrase Shakespeare, "Uneasy lies the head that works with a legend".
No wonder George Harrison's Wilbury rule number one was, "Leave your egos at the door."
Bob dylan is and has been criticized far too harshly in my opinion. The man changed the way songs are written to this day. One of the biggest influences in my life
If he was such an important influence, why are you anonymous?
Anonymous was the name of his character in "Pat Garret and Billy the Kid'.
Glad you like Dylan, only 1 in 5 do, which shows you have some intelligence
giving credibility to your inflated ego.
Dylan is a true genius, I am an almost genius but not musically. I can write
song lyrics as quick as he though, but modern music has few lyricists. Sad.
Ruined music.
About making fun of Bob Dylan, Don McLean referred to Bob as the Joker,
which made him mad but if Bob reflected upon it, McLean didn't mean a silly
Joker like modern day comedians but a relevant Joker like the "Fool" in
King Lear who was smarter than all those in political power.
Now I talked way over your head, I'll go to the store before it starts
raining. I crave ice cream when it rains, and a "Hard Rain" has been falling
for some time, speaking poetically, bur soon the Left's tyranny will be
over. "My Back Pages" was far greater than "Hard Rain" but society hasn't
seen it yet. It may take you 20 years to digest this. When I'm right, I see
things 20 years in advance of everyone else. Have a nice day, honestly.
Few realize Dylan's best work wasn't his protest songs but his love ones.
He treated alot of people like garbage. You have to seperate the art from the artist. George harrison and him had a falling out when bob said he was raising money for charity and never donated the funds. Theres hundreds of other stories just like that about him. Dude was one of the greatest poets of our time but he was off a bit, especially when he was on booze
Mark Howard is a brilliant producer. His work with Lucinda Williams is her best, same as his work with Dylan on TOOM. Love Mark and how real, sincere and honest he is. What a great interview!
Good video . Subscribed
Does anyone think: "Oh wow, there's Bob Dylan, objectively one of the most influential figures in all of rock music history no matter what you think personally about his work. Think I'll go make fun of him to his face"? It's like that old saying about venomous spiders and snakes. 'They won't hurt you if you don't annoy them.' Nobody annoys dangerous spiders and snakes.
Great stories about epic events! Thanks for sharing !
Why would you make fun of Bob Dylan? For being a genius? For being the most influential songwriter in history? For being rich and famous?
Johnny Cash gave Bob Dylan his guitar around 1965 or 66.He knocked on Dylan's door ,handed Dylan the guitar & walked away.Bob was like Johnny just handed me his guitar & left.Dylan said why ?His road mgr.said you don't know what that means?Dylan said no.His road mgr.told Bob all about what it means when someone gifts you their instrument.Between 1970& 74,the early 1970's.Bob was playing with Neil Young and a cast of other musicians.when Bob walked over to Neil and handed him his guitar.Neil just stood there with a very puzzled look on his face.I think at first Neil thought Bob wanted him to carry his guitar for him.I'm sure he figured it out, after he got back to his dressing room. It was great..Bob always said he really liked Neil young's music...
bob dylan great singer and songwriter.
I don't pretend to know Dylan. I'm aware of his career, and how influential he was/is, but he always left me cold. He never struck me as a good or nice guy, and his voice is...well...his voice. He sounds good to my ears (only) every now and then.
B.Dylan debut’d in 1959. Since then there is it seems an endless cue of those he entrusted into his inner circle only too eager to ‘kiss & tell’. As for Bob himself - Greatest Artist of our generation. He don’t need to gossip to get an audience.
His first album was 61-62 He was still Minnesota in 59.
I read Mark's book Listen Up! Enjoyable.
Good interview and story
That's a funny story. I guess when you're Dylan, you can be a primadona about pretty much what you want. He may be a legend but that sounds like he takes himself way too seriously. 😂
I made this comment before I heard Daniel Lanois tell his version. I love Dylan and meant it very tongue in cheek. In the Lanois interview, he doesn't mention this story but he does get into how serious and to the point Dylan was in the studio during that making of Time Out of Mind. He also mentioned that tone of Dylan's mood at the time, too.
Normally I would agree about artists taking themselves too seriously, but by the sound of this story Bob walked in on what would have looked like his workmates taking the piss out of him as soon as he wasn't around. Totally understand why he wasn't happy.
Great guest and stories!
Very Cool - Bob is ONE BADDASS !!!
I remember an interview where Bob Dylan said the ghost of Buddy Holly was everywhere he went while making "time out of mind"
You give the best interviews man.
Great stuff!!!
Thanks for this one. Great interview
One of Dylan's best albums.
Dylan is definitely my favorite... Then Tom Petty. I had to laugh when he mentioned that he renovated a porno studio. One of my favorite coffee houses was the Trauma in Philadelphia which was also a renovated porn shop with the studio on the top. I Saw The Velvet underground there in 68-69 with only 25 people. Hippies seemed to take over those places.
Don’t take the piss out of Bob unless you’re a close personal friend
The man is consistent
In the story it is mentioned that Bob would catch a blues radio station on the car radio for just a bit on the drive to the Oxnard recording studio. Any guesses out there as to what radio station it is?
Great story . I put the CD on midway through and appreciated it more than before.
Really cool interview
Wow, I drive by the Teatro theater everyday, dam to know Bob Dylan rocked out..well shit gives me a fuzzy feeling 😄
Howard has great ears great feel
I like the story of jack Nicholson messing up bobs hair.
This basically could have been just audio, but the moment he's about to demonstrate Bob swinging the guitar at Lanois, it cuts away to a list of musicians who performed there. Who the f*** put this together?
Nothing visual here, yet at the moment he demonstrates how Dylan was going to hit Dan with his guitar, they decide to show a list of musicians.🙄
Long Live Bob Dylan
I guess only Joan can imitate him without repercussions.
That was Bob's idea to use that distorted voice?
I can't wait has many great versions.
Chris Whitley-Living With The Law is one of the greatest albums ever
WTF ? at the moment where the guys showing us what Bob did you cut away to some scrolling list?!! Jesus.
Dylan's voice is very New York.
Not a pleasant sound, more like the cold delivering of a message.
Petty and kaleidoscopic at the same time.
Difficult to fathom and forever enigmatic.
Sounds like a nightmare working w bob
Man, they sure are making big deal out Bob Dylan lately. What's up with that?
Opinions are ok,but if you dont like someone go away and let him alone, some comments are weird,he is a musician not a politik, either you like his music or not,i love his music since i heard it the first time 46. Years ago
The list of singers who haven't made fun of Bob, is shorter than the list of those who have.
And Bob himself is shorter than either.
"You don't play with bands much ?" Some Englishman to Dylan.
That's not saying much...
Just don’t do it in his face apparently
I couldn't disagree more
Ask the guy why he needs to wear a hat when he is inside his house ??
put me in front of Dylan and I will make fun of Dylan... nobody is beyond my jokes
Didnt the guitars stick to those seats?
I will lay lady lay for Bob Dylan
I'm not keen on the title of this video. To " make fun " of ANYONE is always rude, crude and obnoxious. 😢
Seems the only person that’s allowed to be moody around Bob Dylan is Bob Dylan.
Well, the new release gets rid of all those effects, and it’s back to neutral. They De-Lanois it.
Stevie Wonder got away with it.
Mark Brooks name should be in the title
Dan? ... OK, I'm assuming Daniel Lanois.
To hear the ultimate good natured poke at Bob Dylan listen to Frank Zappa's "fresh flakes"
Elvis probably would've laughed and then joined in the fun if he caught Dan mimicking him. That's the difference between The King and a Prince.
Comparing Dylan and Presley is like Comparing apples and oranges. One was known for folk music and the other for Rock and Roll. Both were great at what they did but they played at opposite ends of an extremely big spectrum musically.
Are geniuses are a little bit different Dylan doesn't care what anyone thinks thank God neither should you
Bob dylan sounds kinda funny 😊
I. Miss Keith. Sometimes....how about you Bob?
I think it's stupid to mimic Bob Dylan ...He has many many voices .. so every impression Ive ever seen or heard ..are old fashioned or dated ...And they really never come close .
Hahaha !!!
This is hysterical Bob back story shite .
Zimmerman the Original Yiddisha F Around N’ Find Out G. 😎 !!!
Who is this interview with??? No name is ever mentioned 😮
A lot of very successful people are a pain in the arse.
Why, will he cry?
People make fun of Dylan ... Are you kidding?
Why would anyone make funky Bob Dylan?
Really.
Criteria
Dylan, no words can express him
Golf gloves are for the bike he rides. He also wears gloves as often as possible in public. He knew Covid would eventually come. Always one or two steps ahead.
Why did you make up that lie?
how the hell would he know that… go away!
Hahaha what a cokehead.
Branch Covidians
Met him London...Asking directions....Just a man ...lost man that day....
Directions where to?
Is it true that mr. Dylan can’t place his right palm on the KJV and say these words once only-> I refuse to drink adrenochrome.
???
Bob Dylan, you are controlled opposition.
The end result was...the record sucked (big time).
Positively 4th Street is his one and only song worth listening to.
😂😂
Walked out of his concert one time. He sucked.
I am sure he did not miss you😂😂😂😂
Bob played in Vancouver around late 2000's and he was calcified, What a rip off. I saw him 5 years later in New York and it was like he was on youthful uppers... [except for his voice. but what the hell.... great show.
Me too 1989 Toronto - was there mainly for Steve Earl who opened the show - funny thing have seen Dylan 4 other times since - loved all of the gigs - guess I’m appreciating it now or have gone totally tone deaf
he never got over that
Whats your point? You didn't know? You dont go to Dylan for sinatra vocals. He's an archetype. A raggety man with the stellar band.
Sometimes I think Bob Dylan is conducting an experiment on his fans - he keeps singing worse, playing worse, butchering his songs and then sees how many of his fans still stick with him and defend him. I saw him twice in the 1980s - never again will I waste my time and money.
You won't be missed
Interesting take..I've often thought that nobody can sing that bad unless they're trying to.
I guess I’ll just have to continue making fun of his pretentious, sophomoric lyrics from afar
You mean them Nobel prize winning lyrics yes ok.
Guy can’t tell a story to save his life ! Boring
Too many ads all just to get a talking heads video
You could have made this better
You failed
Make it interesting
I don't make fun of Bob Dylan. I just don't listen to him anymore since he twice admitted to selling his soul.
Dang someone finally said it 😅
Twice ?
He's a born again Christian.
ha
Can you explain this? Thks
I prefer not to listen to old garbage these days
I’ve never liked him. That’s just me.
Easily the most over rated dolt in music history....Dylan.
Bob Dylan sucks. I have no idea why anyone still talks about him. Great channel though. :)
