This duo is hands down one of my favorites that I have ever seen perform. Bernadette and Mandy ... true gold watching them perform. I wish there was more.
According to IMDB, they had to bring Bernadette back in to dub her own performance, because she was too overcome with emotion in the one originally recorded. I wish they had included the original as a bonus scene or something on the DVD.
If it was true that they dubbed parts, it's obvious that the dubbing starts when she turns downstage at 2:35 and sings. It's a bad edit/dub, her voice sounds completely different, more pointed and nasal, and obviously done on a different day in a different ambient acoustic. Nowadays recording technology and software can make the dub more seamless.
(I know I'm a couple years too late and I may be wrong BUT) The Spotify version sounds pretty emotional. I think that's the closest one can ever come to hearing the one like in this performance.
One of my favorite scenes in all of American musical theatre. Peters was phenomenal in this show. In my opinion, it was her best work--and the role for which she should have been given the Tony.
“I am unfinished i am diminished with or without you.” Experiencing this with a man who was my George. I know it’s right for us to be apart but I still feel unfinished without him.

Still have not seen a better performance of this. The line “No one is me” kills me every time.

This isnt the original? That "George" at 3:42 sure sounds awfully rough for a dubbed line.
@@BardBreaker Makes sense though. You can see moments that are a little off sync, but wow, even the dub conveys so much.
@@BardBreaker I don't think they dubbed the whole thing, only certain mometns

That's what is so beautiful about live performances from fantastic performers... raw emotion.

My god. I'd forgotten how incredible this was.
it does not get better than this.

Though I don't usually like talking at the beginning of songs I listen to, I think the talking in the beginning sets the stage for this song so well
She's crying, how beautiful
Her emotional capacity is profound. I think she’s beautiful in every aspect. She’s unreal.
@@saoirseblack6105 she’s profoundly truthful and sincere in every performance.
An excellent portrayal of a heartbreaking scene😭
“What made it so right together is what made it all wrong”😢
Never fall in love with an artist
That violin. Perfrct.
Arg, I love James Lapine's book for Sunday.

Yes, George, run to your work.
Hide behind your painting.
I have come to tell you I am leaving because I thought you might
care to know-foolish of me, because you care about nothing-
[[George]]
I care about many things-

Things-not people.

People, too. I cannot divide my feelings up as neatly as you,
and I am not hiding behind my canvas-I am living in it.
[[Dot]]
What you care for is yourself.
[[George]]
I care for this painting. You will be in this painting.
[[Dot]]
I am something you can use.
[[George]]
I had thought you understood.
[[Dot]]
It's because I understand that I left,
That I am leaving.
[[George]]
Then there's nothing I can say,
Is there?
[[Dot]]
Yes. George, there is:
You could tell me not to go.
Say it to me.
Tell me not to go.
Tall me that you're hurt,
Tell me you're relieved,
Tell me that you're bored-
Anything, but don't assume I know.
Tell me what you feel!
[[George]]
What I feel?
You know exactly how I feel.
Why do you insist
You must hear the words,
When you know I cannot give you words?
Not the ones you need.
There's nothing to say.
I cannot be what you want.
[[Dot]]
What do you want, George?
[[George]]
I needed you and you left.
[[Dot]]
There was no room for me-
[[George]]
You will not accept who I am.
I am what I do-
Which you knew,
Which you always knew,
Which I thought you were a part of!
[[Dot]]
No,
You are complete, George,
You are your own.
We do not belong together.
You are complete, George,
You all alone.
I am unfinished,
I am diminished
With or without you.
We do not belong together,
And we should have belonged together.
What made it so right together
Is what made it all wrong.
No one is you, George.
There you agree,
But others will do, George.
No one is you and
No one can be,
But no one is me, George,
No one is me.
We do not belong together.
And we'll never belong-!
You have a mission,
A mission to see.
Now I have one too, George.
And we should have belonged together.
I have to move on.
Thank you Steve.
This is so moving in a way that runs much deeper than mere sentiment. Here, as in many other places, one sees the depth of his talent and brilliance.
This song/scene completely describes me and someone. Funnily, his name is george and hes an artist....
Women love men who are not in love with them.💯
I have to move on...
