I've watched this and the Totilas world records....... Both are supreme performances, both beautiful and talented horses and riders..... The difference? Valegro Is totally relaxed and simply looks happy! The horses well being should always come first!
There’s a reason Charlotte is so successful. She carries a soft hand and communicates well with her horses. I see relaxed and fluid movements and horses that appear in perfect sync with their rider. I see too many riders with a “one direction ticket” shooting off cues to their mount with no real connection. It ends up looking tense and robotic. Charlotte and Valero look like liquid.
@Chestnutcow, Well said! You won't ever see her or Carl Hester use Rollkur, like other riders, such as Lottie Fry. Just a shame that Lottie went down that road. 😕
I cannot believe that Edward Gal was actually number 1. How can a person practicing rolkur to the point the horses tongue goes blue score 85%? Ridiculous. Charlottes win was deserved, what a lovely partnership they both were. Love it.
So many unique transitions! Halt to extended trot, passage half pass, piaffe pirouette, perfect piaffe, piaffe, piaffe!, free walk to collected canter, extended canter to pirouettes...that reverse! Tempe changes on center line(and you just know, straight as an arrow), pirouettes to final halt... all flowing and signals invisible. aMAZing❣
Yes I agree, it’s absolutely beautiful! It was actually halt to medium trot and extended walk to collected canter. There is no free walk anymore in the FEI levels
Charlotte is literally the only profesional dressage rider that is AMAZING with there horse and doesn’t use abusive methods for training, LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!
This is a moving performance. The connection between the two is obvious, and he moves and performs like water flowing in a river. Just natural and fluid, and looking like he’s having fun the whole time.
I am sure that this should have got even more marks but the judges were afraid to award more - such power and grace and perfection. Such ability to truly sit and push. The horse is in self carriage relaxed yet powerful. its true horse and rider perfection. I never get tired of watching it
Brought back memories of watching Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro. I loved their dressage and cheered when Charlotte and Valegro beat their World Record. I loved riding Dressage. I never got up to the level these riders are at. I am very envious of them back then.
this freestyle paired with the how to train your dragon soundtrack made me want to get serious about dressage work back when I first saw a recording of it a few years back
Absolutely stunning performance!! Nice to see such a relaxed horse :) The best part was the end when Charlotte gave the reins to Valegro and let him walk the ring as she praised him for his awesome work. What a beautiful team!! :)
And this is on having a perfect bound with your horse. He seems so concentrated and at the end he just was the happiest horse I've ever seen. This was just perfect I get goosebump every time I watch it.
I’m a casual rider, owned more than a few horses and ponies over the years…of course not any of this caliber, lol. Mostly Paints and Quarter Horses. I am completely uneducated about the world of dressage, but even I can recognize a pair of champions at work! I am in awe of all these horses, riders and trainers. Thanks for bringing such beauty to those of us who simply love horses and everything about them.
I have never really understood dressage, and I ride horses (but i am a show jumper), but I still have immense respect for dressage riders and horses, especially Charlotte and Valegro. These two are such an amazing duo!!! I also loved the music!! I am a huge How to Train Your Dragon!!!!
@@dazedandconfused2010 awwwww thank you!! I'm sad to hear that you've been given so much flack from showjumpers :(. It's sad how much competition between diciplines is happening in the equestrian world.
could you imagine entering a competition, and when your up, you see Charlotte leaving the arena..... I can't imagine the stress the other riders had..... Charlotte is amazing.
This is beautiful! And this music makes this even beyond perfection. When you watch this, you actually can feel the harmony, the magic and the feeling of crisp wind in a moores of ireland or something :)
I really think Valegro was the Peak in Charlottes equestrian career, and she will always search for this horse in others but never find it because this horse is one of a kind.
Poor valegro, i bet he was treated just like Totillas. As a dressage rider, you dont need abuse to get to the top. Only bond, friendship and love with your horse. You are a team and abusing your horse breaks the bond
FEI needs to make her ban permanent. She did not have “an error in judgement”, she had a pattern of abuse and it was so normal to her that she allowed it to be recorded.
There needs to be systemic change in the industry. And understanding given to a broken person in a broken system. What she did was unequivocally wrong. But she's also deserving of some understanding and the realization that change needs to begin somewhere. She is already going to suffer, regardless of ban. Let's allow her to be human and both be capable of doing something so wrong and yet also loving horses and the sport. And let's show her something other than the worst of humanity that only wants to crucify villains for their transgressions. Not excused or forgiven, but not thrown out forever either.
One thing I've always noticed about this footage, the way the lighting affects his coloring. I've seen Valegro in other arenas, both outside and inside and he is, in normal light, a beautiful dark bay. But here, he almost looks grullo. Something about this lighting brings out the blue in his coat, and he really lives up to his Blueberry barn name!
Probably because this was during the winter so he was clipped. In outdoor footage it’s likely he has his full summer coat so he would look more jet black

Totilas sadly passed away. :(
Valegro looks lazy in his movements, really calm horse. Totilas has natural jump to him. Valegro looks nice, but Toti is the true legend.
I think Valegro did better but toto will always be my favorite
