Born in India, raised in the US. But my soul belongs to India. When I go to India, I’m home. I don’t look Indian and people in India think that I’m either Italian or French. And they treat me very differently in India. I’ve embraced both the cultures. My name is Deepak but for Americans I say Deeepack. I grew up as ABCD but then once I grew up I embraced my Indian identity and culture.

Born in India, raised and spent most of adult life in Australia and now living in the US. The NRIs from the South Indian states seem to maintain their own culture and values more strongly than the Northern state NRIs. Punjabis (like me) spend most of their adult life trying to fit in to “white” culture but are ultimately seen as outsiders. Have learned in my 40s to embrace my Punjabi roots and culture

Man, any major differences you observed b/w states and Australia. Imho, Australia is pretty lame and boring, everything's closed by 5 no nightlife at all, no drive or motivation to hustle, kinda everyone embraces the work-life balance. And I feel there entire economy is based on mediocrity. On the other hand, I feel states has the hustle culture, opportunity to make a bank, or the entire economy is based on meritocracy. A few good things about Australia nature and safety.

I've been living in the US for about five years and noticed that Mostly Desi Americans(ABCD) seem to move away from Indian culture and traditions. They often seem more interested in "White" culture, even though they might face rejection and not welcomed in white community because of their skin color complicated tradition. In this situation, Desis find themselves torn between embracing Indian traditions and adjusting to life in the US. The movie Namastey London (2007) reflects a similar real-life scenario.

I think the common mistake people make is treat identity as a binary. If I was born and lived for 16 years in a completely different culture, then lived the next 16 in another one, my outlook would be a mix of both. What I see sometimes here in the U.S. and Canada is that people try to shame you for not being Indian enough or being too Indian. I think we should able to have a more nuanced take on a person’s identity and evolution. Cos we are not the same forever. Having said that, remembering your roots whether ethnic, geographic, economic etc is very important to a person’s growth, confidence and stability.

The US is the only country in the world where pure talent, grit and intelligence is enough to help you create a life for yourself. Look at the number of India born and raised CEOs, politicians of Indian descent etc that contribute to the economy and fabric of the country without having connections. Imagine foreign borns running the biggest companies in India and living assimilated with neighbors without people looking strangely at them. That is the unique aspect of the US. You do not need connections to make it to the highest echelons of society. Just pure talent and grit.

However, some early Christian theologians, such as Valentinus, Basilides of Alexandria, and Origen of Alexandria, did believe in reincarnation. So the church messed things to suit itself

Good thing about Joe Rogan is when he keeps learning thing he Incorporated with his life and talk and everything but the problem with Ranveer is that he will have these amazing conversations with intelligent people and then talk to someone else someone else and forget about all the good things that he had already learnt

So being made fun of in school is true even today.

Identity is something that is ones own. We know our experiences and past that defined us. We are forever growing till the time we perish. The people in our lives only meet us at various points so they only see small parts of our life.
Our identity is self-defined. The perception of us is based on others' brief understanding of us.
I only say this so people know the difference.

well ABCD are some people who are americans with indian origin (their parents or grandparents were NRIs at some point) and NRIs are people who are indians living abroad. there is a big difference and i learned this when i made american indian friends at my grad school 20 years ago, don't treat them as indians or NRIs, they are americans with indian background which they may or may not be proud off and we can't judge them for that.

Nimesh Patel is another Indian comic, who is very underrated but a great American comic of Indian descent. Hasan Minhaj and Aziz Ansari are quite popular and I think are good. What I love about them is all of them own their Indian heritage and are quite proud of it. Similarly, Mo Amer (I think either Arab/Palestinian) and Ramy Youssef (Egyptian heritage) are great as they speak about their experiences. Of course, our own Vir Das is great!

Five Bollywood movies I'd show to american audience would be Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara, Gangs of Waasepur/Company, Padmavat or Bajirao Mastani. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a good shout. Americans generally love large scale Indian movies.
