Hey man, loved hearing what you had to say about the show! I was wondering what your thoughts were on the moment where Ellie took the opportunity to execute the crushed infected under the petrol station at the start of Episode 3. It was definitely one of the darker moments for her character throughout the season. However, as an avid fan of the Games I saw this as her way of taking out her frustration and anger over what happened to Riley just a few a weeks prior, perhaps even her attempt to enact some semblance of revenge. Curious to see if you had the same outlook on this scene and if not, what you took away from it.
That was a strange scene for me. I initially said I disliked it on camera but cut it out because maybe Ellie was just being curious. I like your interpretation of the scene better.
I haven't watched the show yet but I saw a clip of the hospital rampage and it felt a little rushed especially the confrontation with the doctor and Marlene. In the game, it felt intense, brooding and melancholic.
Great show especially compared to other game adaptations but it could have been something special if they had increased the episodes to about 14 allowing you to build the characters more and better pace the show and a little part of me wanted Troy Baker to play Joel but Pedro Pascal did a good job.
They got a tonne of use out of the song “allowed to be happy” in the show, which is weird because its a theme written and only plays for Abby in the second game. Its my favourite song so it was a strange implementation seeing as how the soundtrack to part 2 is very specific and important to scenes and characters
I, like you, liked a lot of the expanded stories they were able to do in the show, but the game is still king. Just wondering if there might be a platinum journey for TLOU remake? The platinum is much easier and wouldn't cause you so much frustration
I'm not sure yet. I replayed The Last of Us last year, this year was the show, might need a break for a bit. Part I is on the list of potential episodes though.
It may have been a great video game adaptation compared to other video game adaptations. From a pure entertainment standpoint I thought the show was just okay and largely forgettable, especially when compared to the TLOU1 video game. For the first half of the show I preferred Pedro Pascal's role as Joel compared to Bella Ramsey's role as Ellie, this changed towards the end of the show where I thought Bella did a better job in representing her character. I don't get the people who have made a big deal about her looks. Sure, she isn't a near identical breathing representation of Ellie but besides a mid 30's Ellen Page I don't think there is. Pedro Pascal would've been better in the role as Tommy imo. I would have liked more action, or instead, more thrill and horror to make up for the lack of action. Instead we got a drama that seemed focused on staying true to the major story points of the video game and just getting the finish line. My opinion is that they basically played it safe so that the project didn't go up in flames.
The line delivery was by far the worst part of the show, got better as the show went on but Neil and co needed to give more direction for the actors. Some of the cgi was awful its quite clear a lot of the budget went into the first episode.
The show on the whole definitely felt rushed, especially the second half. Good overall but could have been a lot better. Things I wasn’t a fan of 1 - like I said felt rushed 2 - lack of infected 3 - the whole hive mind but there was so few infected it hardly mattered 4 - pretty much anything from episode 3
@@AdamMcDermott all 3. Deviated way too far from the game for me to care what was happening. I wanted a faithful adaptation (most of the show was) not an hour long love story
Very good adaptation, when all is considered. Yes, playing the game makes some parts not feel right, but still enjoyable. Now the wait and anticipation for season 2.
The game is my favorite story I've ever witnessed. My entire leg is a last of us tattoo. I was so disappointed with the show. it was good but it could have been great. It felt very lackluster and underwhelming
That's fair. I think it is a good show, even relieved by how good it was, but certainly feel it could have been better. Will be interesting to see what they do with Part II.
Lemme tell u, that actress that played the biologist in episode 2 in Jakarta deserves serious praise. She did a fantastic job portraying the seriousness of the situation and her despair knowing what was going to happen. Her knowing the best option was to bomb the city with her and her family in it. Man it gave me chills.
I like the show but im more of a fan of Pedro Pascal dude was a small fish then he went on to appear in a small show called game of thrones hardly anyone saw that show tho then starred in Narcos then got a role in Kingsman and the rest is history plus I have to support a fellow Latino
Haha, didn't even look at the date until uploading. Sekiro will be done in about 3-4 weeks. It is a chunky episode, the voice-over is twice as long as the average episode.
I've never compared them as they're just far different mediums. I think the show did a great job adapting but near the end I found a few issues that did bug me. It needed another episode or two to extend the end. It felt so abrupt, like we were just rushing through all these iconic scenes and skipping over a lot of important stuff. Great video as always. I do wonder if I didn't love TLOU games so much would I like this show? Hmm.
Yeah, needing more episodes seems to be a common issue. Good question. Anecdotally, the show does seem to be doing well with folks not familiar with the game.
I don't agree with many of your critiques/comparisons to the game. But one that stuck out to me as odd criticism was David's religious attachment - he reveals that he worships cordyceps and not God, the Christian farce of it is just that, a farce. I thought it was really cool
I think both the game and the show had their strong points. I want to say the game was better but I feel I would only be saying that as it was me controlling the characters and alo the nostalgia. But the show adds extra context. Also I heard Season 2 will be TLOU Part 2. This to me is rushed. They could have had many adventures in the five years leading to pt2. Great vid as always.
I’ll stick by what I’ve said since I first played the game, I do not care about Joel and Ellie’s relationship. The game centering around that makes it unenjoyable to me because then I have a game that doesn’t really have engaging gameplay all to tell a story that I don’t care for. However, I think the show is better, for me, partly because episodes 3 and 7 focus on different people, and because it tells the same story in a shorter time and because I’m not playing. It’s easier to see why people love this game after watching the show, and even though I’m not a fan, there were still the usual scenes that hit me. I have friends who’ve only played Mario party tell me the show was amazing, so I think it succeeded in telling the story to a new audience. It’ll be interesting to see how seasons 2 and 3 do given the years apart from the games release. Though, judging by the review bombings of specific episodes in season 1, I think the same problem will come up.
Not caring about Joel and Ellie's relationship would be a huge hinderance to enjoying the game. Understand why you prefer the show. The review bombing is so weird to me. It only draws more attention to a thing those folks dislike.
I think this video is incredibly rushed, just like the show. I mean you're going through entire episodes in 2 minutes and you're skipping a lot of stuff, a lot of scenes and don't mention performances a lot. This feels strictly a game vs show and not a review/game vs show.
That's okay. If I were to go into detail for each episode I'd be repeating myself or be saying this scene is "fine", that scene is "fine". It would be a long and dull video. Instead I highlighted stuff that stuck out to me which I liked/disliked. I understand if you wanted more time to each episode though.
@@AdamMcDermott it wasn't bad by any means, it's just that as a guy who loves the game as much as you, I expected a more in-depth discussion, but I can see where you're coming from.
Feel free to leave your own thoughts. It is fine if you agree or disagree with me, I don't mind.
Hi Adam McDermott
@@BigGuy990 Hello
I haven’t watched yet but one of my main issue is the music placement. They made lots of hard hitting game moments worse by changing the music up.
I noticed that a couple of times but didn't mention in the video. Also, music in the final scene being really quiet. It was an odd decision.
@@Vsprivate lots of it was from the second game, they played “allowed to be happy” which only played for abby about 8 times in the show
You're 100% right about some lines being said too fast. I noticed it too. Especially the car scene with the magazine.
Glad I'm not alone.

Good name for it
I am extremely curious on the lore behind the context regarding how the virus spread and all the unknown context behind it

The series was a decent adaptation. Loved the deeper context in earlier episodes. Great review.

Still need to watch the show, just worried it's going to tarnish my views on the story
