It's a wise course of action. On impact, it would fling a bunch of smaller rocks at very high speeds. For instances, during the JFK assassination, a civilian was injured because one of Oswald's bullets flung a piece of the road into the man's face.

Honours to great Spartan women who scoffed at the thought of leaving the city and proceeded to dig entrenchments. They even forbidden their husbands from helping them, claiming they would need all their strengths in battle. During it they were taking wounded behind the front lanes and even replacing them. Some would literally pick up weapons of the fallen and fight in their place.

Pyrrhus entering the Argos still had war elephants. Unfortunately, they caused more trouble than use. First, they delayed the entry of troops into the city, because they did not fit in the gate. Soldiers had to remove their towers, then reassembled them after passing through the gate. During a chaotic night fight in the streets of Argos, Pyrrhus realized that he had no chance to take the city and had to retreat. But the gate was blocked by the body of a dead elephant. Pyrrhus sent a messenger to his son, who was part of their forces outside the city, to tear a fragment of walls down and enable evacuation. Unfortunately, the king's son misunderstood the order and at the head of the troops marched into the town through another gate, increased general chaos. Seeing the hopelessness of the situation, Pyrrhus decided to get out of the city alone, riding through the crowds of fighters. According to ancient historians, paving his way, he killed a local soldier. This was witnessed by the mother of the victim who threw a tile from the window, hitting Pyrrhus in the head and depriving him of consciousness. The unconscious king was severed by a Gallic mercenary. This was the end of Alexander the Great's cousin, the best commander of his time and the only hellenistic ruler who defeated the roman legions.

Very beautiful video nonetheless, although what made this spartan victory so surprising was the apparently outdated formation of compact, heavy hoplite infantry with short spears against the sarissa-phalangitai.

my favorite movie is to pull what (i believe) Hannibal did to the romans, i make a box formation and wait for the enemy to hit me from the front, then swing the sides of the box out around the flanks of the enemy, then bring in my cavalry from behind and smash them in the back and box them in, that has to be the best move in the game, literally the only time it fails is if 1. you have no cavalry, 2. the enemy has ballistic weapons, and 3. has you outnumbered 3 to 1, but in those cases, i usually retreat to the far corner of the battle field and wedge my men in hat corner, it is kinda a cheap tactic since the enemy forces cannot move past the boundary lines, so it is impossible to flank me...i call it "making the thermopylae"

In the old RTW, I enjoyed playing the Extended Greek Mod (XGM) which now seems to be unavailable. One of my favorite parts of that was to sink Pyrrhus' army after defeating them while on land. I'd like to play the XGM again but it seems unavailable after steam came into the equation.

You personally helped nobody doing anything during that time. Your ancestors maybe, but I don't like to see people that pride themselves with deeds done by people 2500 years ago. A big problem, especially among the modern Persians AND Greeks. Do something glorious yourself which you can be proud of.
Both Greece and Iran have massive other problems which they should deal with nowadays instead of living in the past. And this is coming from a history nerd. I don't have a problem with Persians. I actually admire them and their rich history and culture.
And for the record: The Achaemenid Empire fell first.

Using elephants as a first attack is just plain stupid... the right way to use them is make a line and pin the enemy after that easily flank them with the elephants
