Italy Launches Manslaughter Investigation Into Sicily Superyacht Tragedy
An Italian prosecutor has launched a manslaughter investigation into the sinking of a luxury yacht off Sicily that killed British tech magnate Mike Lynch and six others. Ambrogio Cartosio, head of the Termini Imerese public prosecutor's office, suggested that negligence might have contributed to the incident, although no individuals are currently targeted in the probe. The yacht sank due to a sudden meteorological event, possibly a downburst, an intense downward wind common at sea. The captain, James Cutfield, and other survivors have been questioned but have not publicly explained the sinking. While there is no legal requirement for the survivors to stay in Italy, authorities expect them to cooperate with the investigation.
