Half knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge. You have not uttered a single word regarding the limitation of lodging FIR for major cases wherein accused is sentenced to undergo imprisonment for life.

My brother there is no such limit to lodge FIR, sometime FIR may be lodged with certain delay but such delay should be justifiable, otherwise FIR will lost its evidentiary value and benefit will go to accused person. In case of sexual offences certain delay is excusable as in these cases discussion with the elder member of the family is required because reputation of victim as well family is involved. In short there is no such limitation for lodging FIR.
