I love it so much and it’s easily my favorite game of all time, but what kept me from playing it more was the that the endgame was pretty boring fighting the same monsters over and over again. Hopefully rise has a more interesting endgame and more updates than world and iceborne. What do you think about the endgame
I started with MH4U and it really didn't go well for me. I just had no idea what was going on in the game. MHW (and weapon tutorials) actually filled in a lot of knowledge gaps and got me to eventually go back to MH4U and MHGU. Really looking forward to Rise now.
Fantastic video! I was really excited for this video as soon as you mentioned making it on the podcast! I’ve been playing since Tri but I’m always glad to see videos to help new players get into the series!
I’ve been trying so hard to sell my friends and partner on it too but they all take a whack at it and get overwhelmed and I’m like no you don’t understand that’s normal please play w me 😭
Thank you for this video! I played World for a bit a few years ago and really enjoyed it but jumping into Rise now and am incredibly overwhelmed. This helps simplify things considerably.
0:57 when I played the demo I was so let down because I couldn't get the grip of it, in spite of really being excited about the game. Then I bought it because I really, *really* wanted to play it. The tutorials, Hunter notes, training area and all the help in the game really does make a change. I own other MH titles, and so far none have been my cup of tea. They have a lot of things introduced, and I felt so intimidated going against big monsters and feeling under-prepared, it really felt overwhelming (much like my first hours on this game). But getting MH:Rise really made me want to go back to those other titles I own and give it another try
Watching this gave me so much nostalgia to plating monster hunter in my brothers PSP when I was little. Thats really what got me started in thus game and Ive been playing it ever since. Thanks for the guide still
There is so much to this game that I felt they had a lot of trouble trying to incorporate the information into it. There are so many things that the game doesn't explain to you, and things you don't even know about because they exist but the game doesn't say anything about it. My advice for new players is to watch a lot of guides.
My friend sent me this after convincing me to try out the demo. Appreciate it. It's all super helpful info because I was struggling with just the demo stuff.
I actually stayed away from DB for a long time because of this. I wanted to slash like a madman, but the weapon actually has a surprising amount of animation locking that will kill you if you slash too madly. I got way more comfortable with them recently, but it's a quite fascinating weapon because of said animation locks.
@@justsomejojo Yes the lock animations surprised me when I first tried Dual Blades. So you can't just be a Mad man as you'll still have to learn the monsters moves to avoid getting hit.
This will be my first Monster Hunter game. I'm looking forward to playing this! Thank you for making this video. It really gives me a good starting point!

After watching some of this mans content and streams over the last few years I’ve determined he’s a genuinely good person. I’ve disagreed with some of his guides and builds in the past specifically for MH World but what a great guy. Best of luck and full support from me. Great beginners video.
One of my favorite things about MH has been the hidden "endemic mechanics" to some of the monsters. Like if you're hunting a Rathian instead of chasing it down go find the wyvern egg nest. If you pick up an egg the Rathian (and I think the Rathalos, too) will come to you. When you've beaten it enough and it leaves the area just pick up another egg and the Rathian will come back to you. This can be exploited even outside of "egg quests". The monster Plesioth in the older games liked to just hang out in water where you can't get at it (unless you're playing 3U but hey water mechanics). There's always a gathering patch near where the Plesioth is that you can gather frogs from and then you can use the frog as fishing bait to pull it out of the water in a downed state rather than waiting for it to come out on it's own accord. Even the hidden tricks when it comes to hunting certain monsters were awesome like breaking the Tigrex's claws would make it stumble whenever it tried to change directions after a charge. The old monster Nibblesnarf would hide under the sand and attack you before diving back under the sand as though it was water. When it charges around it does so with its mouth open so if you do it right you can trick it into swallowing a barrel bomb which would then blow it up and knock it out. You could then use your fishing pole to pull it out of the sand to extend its knocked down status and get at other breakable parts. Most of the older monsters have these weird hidden mechanics and it was always fun to exploit them.
I remember it took me literal months to get into MHGU before one day it clicked and I got hooked. I thought monster hunter was too complicated and as he said, clunky. Now I live for the grind and the love mastering each monster’s move set. Insect glaive, bow, and switch axe are constant alternates for me now.
I love this video. I have been playing since the 3rd gen, but this is what I’m sending all my friends who are thinking about starting up the series! Great job.
Thanks! This was a very good video. I have a couple of friends that I've been trying to get to play Rise and MH in general. But they have been a little reluctant for the many reasons that you've addressed in this video (that I too felt when first playing MH freedom unite). I love how you tell the viewers to hold on with the game. That it needs some time for everything to click and for the game to reveal how much fun it can be. I will share your video with them in the hope that they could be intrigued enough to give it a real try. Keep up the very good work and thx again.
Kudos for explaining what the game is about for us newbies. This will be my first MH and I'm hoping as a granny hunter I'll be able to keep up with the younger folk :-)
Yes. You get it. I am sharing this video with EVERYBODY lol I've often compared learning the combat of Monster Hunter to learning a musical instrument, as odd as that comparison is. Because when you first start, you SUCK. Nothing is what you're used to and it feels weird and clunky and you can't do anything right and even the simplest things are a struggle. But if you just put your head down and keep going eventually you will get better, and better, and then. THEN. You make MAGIC. And that magic is so, SO worth it.

This was great Rurikhan covers all the basics for new players and you got the whole a lot if not all players don't like it at first just keep trying and try every weapon to see what you want to play and go from there. Hopefully it helps new players get a feel for what the game is about
Thanks for the tips! This is going to be my hunting debut. I've been interested in the series since I was a kid, and finally decided im going to commit once rise got announced
mhw will always hold a special place in my heart, i started it solo just looking up guides and grinding monsters, then this chick on xbox helped me join their little mhw guild and we would all group up and they would help me do hunts i couldn’t get the hang of then i ended up just going into MR solo and getting really far i have close to 1000 hrs in world so i’m hyped to get into this, it deff feels different booting it up right now but that’s alright, glad to be back into it
I think everyone likes it but I think they may have done this because they couldn’t get in the monsters at launch cause of Covid so to make up for the low roster, they are making large updates compared to world/iceborne
Very nice introduction. I'm not a beginner, but I'm loving the points you covered here. Back at the end of Gen 1, I felt that us in the West had a serious disadvantage when it came to *getting * into Monster Hunter. There were the few who got into it almost right away, but most of us didn't have a friend or some easy method to be tutored by another, in the game. That usually often meant that our first MH game we didn't really enjoy. For me, my initial taste was Freedom 1, but I didn't get hooked into MH until Freedom 2. I figured it would be a bigger struggle to learn the ins and outs going solo, back in the day. This is one of the reasons why I remember I was super hyped when MH Tri was coming out. Mostly because being the first online capable MH, specifically on a system with it built in (PS2 required extra optional hardware to play online), it meant that finally, the west would have more access to hunters who could tutor new players. It's so much easier to see the magic when you work with an experienced player as the game itself wasn't great at weening in new players. Not unless you fight, and fight, and lose, and persevere until the systems sink in; and sadly, for many of us, that didn't happen with the first game we played. Videos like this, as well as having a good community to help out, is what really helps alleviate that (first MH game experience) hurdle. Thanks for that.
I think it was Gaijin who said if you’re new treat it like a turn based RPG. Let the monster attack then you attack, once you get used to combat it starts to flow.
A great introduction to Monster Hunter! All I knew about it was from the demo of HM Rise but now I think I know what to expect and I really like it! The main reason for me to get into this game was a great deal of challenge and an amazing feeling of acomplishment I experienced in the demo. I really hope that a full game will keep these impressions on me, but the perspective of various quests, gathering, crafting and preparing a different gear setups is very appealing too!
I was introduced to MH on FU, I was 8 at the time, 21 now, and played it on my friends psp. I loved it instantly, was my introduction into RPGs as well. I didn't actually own my own MH game until world cause I could never afford a ds. So when I played GU and saw the monster I was introduced too I was like oh hey! So it's always fun to hear stories from those who are new. Who have no prior experience with a monster hunter game. Even though im not a beginner, I still loved the video. I look forward to the podcast every week.
Monster hunter world was my entry and I fell in love. I recently quit gaming to focus on work but I'm gonna hop back in for this MH: Rise. Community is too wholesome to pass up especially since I missed all the iceborne releases when they were coming out
When I tried to get into monster hunter world one of my friends threw me into the deep end and did not teach me anything at all and that was probably the worst introduction to a monster hunter game I’ve ever had. I dropped it but decided to pick it back up and learn and I enjoyed it a lot and decided to play the psp games as well since I had found my old psp in a container. Gotta say the psp games are hell but they help a lot with learning mechanics. Now I’m playing rise and I enjoy this series a lot.
I've played most Monster Hunters released on nintendo hardware since Tri on the Wii. this is the first game where the gameplay actually clicked and i know what i am doing(mostly) i am so glad i gave it another chance after deleting the demo after 20mins. Not using a big slow weapon, and reading all the popups, and playing the tutorials helped me more in this game than in any other! now i will try and learn the traps, and more difficult weapons than double blade, or sword and shield
I remember when I first got the 3DL MHG edition, I bought the game based on a person who said it was very addictive. As soon as I loaded up the game I was so confused and I hated it. It wasn’t until MHGU on Switch and lots of Gaijin’s videos later which I got hooked. And then I started watching your videos and I’m a complete convert. This is a great game.
then as new player that finaly gets a hang of things realise all their hack slash each movement so on is calculated to the second then make your jaw drop further
I really appreciated this because you have no idea how many weapon/mechanics videos I’ve seen were it goes “oh this weapon/system is just like World” and I’m like “well I guess I’m going to watch the World tutorial so I can understand the Rise tutorial.” Still have no idea what to really expect but I’ve been having a blast with the demo and am looking forward to the full release.
I remember the first time I started with MHW, my first game, I hated the beginning as I was unable to do anything effectively, but few months later in and loved the game. Now I just got into Rise, after a year of not playing any MH game, picking right where I left and immediately starting with charge blade. The first few fights were clunky because I couldn't remember the exact controls, just few basic mechanics, but after few hunts it came all back up to me like riding a bicycle. And while I was switching between the weapons only 2 really feels natural to me, charge blade and switch axe, the others just don't feel that enjoyable. I still remember facing Anjanath and Rathian for the first few times in MHW, I hated those fights, I couldn't do them alone, but then in Rise I almost felt sorry for them because they got beaten almost instantly without too much effort, so your comment about muscle memory is just spot on.
As a total beginner, i am happy to found this video. This will be my first MH game, and preordered it a few days ago. My friends are kinda jelous that i can play the game smuch earlier because i have a switch :D
I can't tell you how many hours in Tri I went out without eating when I started out. It was at least until the Lagiacrus repel quest. Such an important thing to mention imo. Back when I started, my most recent "eat for combat" game were the Tales of Games where it isn't required. In MH, it definitely IS required. In 9 years of playing, I only got to full comfort (as in, this feels like home and I can do everything) in 2, maaaaybe 3 weapons. I can play most on a very basic level, but only Switch Axe and Gunlance (specifically the World revision) REALLY carved themselves into my muscle memory and (old) Hunting Horn is kinda close to that. This is obviously different for everybody, but expect tons of hours of learning and getting comfortable with your weapons. If that excites you, you'll love MH.

Didn't have those before. Add another 2-3 hrs exploring the village, talked to NPCs, and took the very first village quest.
It's always good to brush up on The Basics. Thanks for the Refresher.
Holy royal ludroth really blew rurikhans mind when he realized his mane was a sponge.
Yeah, but it's also an easy example
I really love these kind of videos from you, Ruri. I'm not a beginner, but it's always interesting to listen to your input.
To all the newcomers, have a fantastic time, and happy hunting.
I been playing MonsterHunter for almost 11 year and I am still a begginner 😆😅😂🤣😭
Hahahahahaha hahahahahhahahaha same
as a wise man said "a true master is an eternal student"
me: 300 hrs in world
also me: ah yes beginners guide just perfect for me
Ngl Thats not much
@@owengames3630 yeah, i would still call those numbers cute compared to the average MH player xD
@@owengames3630 what about almost 500?

@@Freakybugeyedweirdo mhw is my most played game ever, and it’s my first game in the series. I love it so much and it’s easily my favorite game of all time, but what kept me from playing it more was the that the endgame was pretty boring fighting the same monsters over and over again. Hopefully rise has a more interesting endgame and more updates than world and iceborne. What do you think about the endgame
I'm honestly just happier that more people will play monster hunter,I always felt that mh was not really well known in the west until world came out.
You'd be correct XD
"You have to maintain balance" proceeds to murder 50+ Kula Yakus because I need god knows how many fucking beaks in order to make a weapon
It's easy to forget how overwhelming these games are when your new
I started with MH4U and it really didn't go well for me.
Ruri as a old school fan this was a great way to explain the game to newcomers! Well done keep up the awesome work! 😁
Nice, this'll be handy for all my friends I'm bring into Monster Hunter.
:(
i tried with world, not a single one stayed 😥
I hope they enjoy, im trying the same with a few friends of my own
I’ve been trying so hard to sell my friends and partner on it too but they all take a whack at it and get overwhelmed and I’m like no you don’t understand that’s normal please play w me 😭
I got one friend to play the console games but he doesn’t want to play the switch mh games it’s better than nothing
Oooh I wish I had friends. Lol.
This will be my first game. THANK YOU for this
I'm a newbie and super excited. I'm so glad people are making videos for new people so it's not so overwhelming.
Welcome new hunters!
Been playing since Tri, still watched the video ;)
Ruri: ....hacking n' slashing like a mad man
Dual Blade user: okay... ✌✌✌😅😅😅
Super helpful video, I just got this game and is my 1st monster hunter game, is very daunting for a beginner like me. Really nice to see the community is very welcoming
Just bought MH Rise from the sale on the switch wish me luck in the hunts
I love how I get to be excited about this game twice. Once for next week and once for the PC release next year. Just like I did for World.
Been playing since the ps2. I love when a new game comes out. New monsters and seeing new players reacting to said monsters. It's always a good time.
Amazing work as always sir
Thank you
I’m not a new player but I like watching it still
Thanks for the intro, I'm thinking of becoming a first time Monster Hunter while I wait for the next Zelda. Your info was very good and it has convinced me to join the fight thanks
Why the fuck doesnt this have more likes?
I remember it took me literal months to get into MHGU before one day it clicked and I got hooked. I thought monster hunter was too complicated and as he said, clunky. Now I live for the grind and the love mastering each monster’s move set. Insect glaive, bow, and switch axe are constant alternates for me now.
What a great intro for beginners! Rurikhan is setting the tone perfectly for Rise content to come.
This channel is seriously starting to be my go to place for MH-vids, just love the vibe ^^
I just picked up monster Hunter rise last week and was feeling a little lost. I watched a few videos and yours was by far the most useful! Thanks
I have been playing mh religiously since tri on the wii. So I am no means a beginner, but I still appreciate a video like this. Thank you Ruri.
Kudos for explaining what the game is about for us newbies. This will be my first MH and I'm hoping as a granny hunter I'll be able to keep up with the younger folk :-)
I’ve never played a Monster Hunter game and I am considering trying Rise and I found this video very informative and helpful. Thanks for making it.
Considering how unfriendly this game is to total newbies like me, this video was more than welcome and useful. Thanks !
Has magnamalo made anyone else feel like they are not as good as they thought they were.
Yes
Beginners and long time players alike, will all benefit from this video.
Yes. You get it. I am sharing this video with EVERYBODY lol
I've often compared learning the combat of Monster Hunter to learning a musical instrument, as odd as that comparison is.
What a great video. Very refreshing. Creator used insight to share their passion, to help a newb like me understand why THEY love it. ANd pick up some useful tips along the way :)
I just watch these videos even tho I'm a long term player just because I love all the content creators for monster hunter. They're the best 💗
Been following your videos for a few years now Ruri and they are always so quality and informative, I still have no idea why your channel is not alot larger than it is but I appreciate this. I got into MH World from your videos as I had no idea what to do and have pre ordered a second switch purely to play Rise on it
I've played monster hunter 3 ultimate, monster tri, monster hunter world, and now rise. I come to videos like this to refresh after years in-between playing :)
This is a great video! You explained a lot and you made it all clear and as simple as possible. I didn’t learn anything because I’ve played a lot of MH but you did a really clean cut job on the topic.
Just played it 2 days ago. My first MH game. Very difficult at first but once you got the mechanics its super fun & addictive. Thanks for the guide man. Very good guide for a starter.
Believe it or not, I'm actually a MH newbie!! I've heard about previous games but NEVER got into it, thanks a lot! Super hype!
mhw will always hold a special place in my heart, i started it solo just looking up guides and grinding monsters, then this chick on xbox helped me join their little mhw guild and we would all group up and they would help me do hunts i couldn’t get the hang of then i ended up just going into MR solo and getting really far i have close to 1000 hrs in world so i’m hyped to get into this, it deff feels different booting it up right now but that’s alright, glad to be back into it
vidoe title: "new player guide, the basics"
me, a mh veteran: yeah im going to watch this
Im kinda digging the monster pack updates since the portable team has so many more skeletons than the world team
I think everyone likes it but I think they may have done this because they couldn’t get in the monsters at launch cause of Covid so to make up for the low roster, they are making large updates compared to world/iceborne
Clicked for the title. Stayed for the background music. Pokke village best village. So much memories.
Thank you so much, this is my first time playing a monster hunter game and this video helped a lot
9:52 In World that was a toss up between Insect Glaive and Longsword, so I'll be starting Rise with one of those for sure.
I can’t wait for the game to arrive!! Thanks for this elaborate insight. It’s helping me a lot to prep for the whole game🥰
I look forward to the podcast every week.
not a new player, just watching to support your content.
As a first time MH player, this video really helped me get over the initial torrent of information that the game overwhelms you with. Thank you!
I see you on this early guide train! Good stuff!
"...You can't just start hacking and slashing your way ... "
Me: looks at team dark side... visible confusion
Great vid Rurikhan.
then as new player that finaly gets a hang of things realise all their hack slash each movement so on is calculated to the second then make your jaw drop further
I really appreciated this because you have no idea how many weapon/mechanics videos I’ve seen were it goes “oh this weapon/system is just like World” and I’m like “well I guess I’m going to watch the World tutorial so I can understand the Rise tutorial.”
Still have no idea what to really expect but I’ve been having a blast with the demo and am looking forward to the full release.
Great vid! I was going to sell my copy but after watching this I’m gonna give it more time.
Thank you for this video. Feeling more secure to step in the world of Monster Hunter for the first time!
