I wonder if Nairo is still gonna play Bowser even though they've butchered his upair combo, its so unfair that DK keeps his combo throw and Bowser loses it
Nairo's played Bowser a lot in the demo, and has said he'd like to try his hand at every character he's played prominently in the past, but who knows if he'll stick with it. From what I understand up throw can still combo into moves at earlier percents which is good since it saw an increase in damage. The actual grab itself is faster too, making it more reliable in different situations. imo, it'll be really interesting to see how Bowser's meta develops in Ultimate since the character is typically inconsistent between games. My bets are on landing nair being the new primary combo starter.
Well outside the grab confirms, Bowser got a lot of his other things largely buffed. For example, his Tough Guy mechanic has been improved to the point where I seen him run through Villager's slingshots and uncharged Bullet Climax. His aerial game got stupid buffed, as he has much less landing lag on his aerials (especially his back air) and he is part of the universal frame 3 jumpsquat (his jumpsquat in previous installments has frame 8).
The_Bookworm Mmhmm. I think the change to jumpsquat especially will help him a lot. In Sm4sh he was the 17th fastest runner, but his inability to jump well hindered him so much that it hardly mattered in overall mobility. Now that it isn't an issue his approaches will likely be scary to deal with. Better aerials lead to better strings of moves of course, and Tough Guy actually doing something against characters that aren't Luigi is very nice.

He's actually the same run speed, but his jump squat was cut by FIVE frames. Although he doesn't have his grab kill anymore which is... very bad for him.
Between everything else we've seen, I don't think he really needs a grab kill confirm to carry him anymore, and will overall be a much more interesting character. His actual grab itself is faster with his other throws being a bit more useful now. His aerials are much better options as well with the decrease in jumpsquat. The main thing that worries me is his ability to score kills out of followups, but that'll be a part of what makes it interesting to play him: Experimenting with things as opposed to letting a single throw do the hard work.
Grab will be fine, as it's a better option in general now. The lack of autocancel Side-B is a tricky thing for me to try and give an opinion on. Personally, whenever I used the move, I would usually land before the move could even come out. I was more used to the side-B on Melee or PM Bowser in that respect. Side-B in Ultimate is faster to come out, and is just slightly faster than his regular grab, meaning its application will likely be quite different (maybe a combo finisher in some specific cases?) Either way, I'm not sure I can see it functioning that well as an option coming down to stage now, which just means we'll likely have to mess around with things like fire breath to see how good they are in that respect.

Ding Dong has been nerfed significantly as the percent windows are much tighter than in 4.
