  • It took us 8 years after SunRail opened to finally take a trip on the train through Central Florida and we take you along for the ride. We took the train from DeBary, FL to Kissimmee, FL and stopped for lunch at 3 Sisters Speakeasy before heading back north again.

    While it doesn't really serve I-Drive where we're staying next year, the video has got us thinking about maybe visiting the city centre on public transport to grab some beers one day. Never been in ten years of visiting!
    Lot of level crossings compared to the UK rail network!

      We've done Uber or Lyft to Downtown Orlando while staying at Universal for the bars. I wish they'd expand the train routing more to incorporate the parks, I-Drive, etc. It would certainly ease traffic and allow for more beverage consumption.

    This just makes me sad that I can't use it at night to go to solar bears or city games and then can't use it at all on weekends.
    Sunrail just makes me sad in general. We rode it once to go to a game knowing we would have to uber back. Absolutely loved riding it into the city and wished we could have taken it back.

It’s something we haven’t done ourselves since the majority of the places we like to go to would require funding additionally transportation once we got off at a stop near where we were going. For us, it’s still better and cheaper to drive where we want to go.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber Год назад

      Tampa is too distant for a regional commuter service like SunRail. But you could take Amtrak's Silver Meteor from Tampa to Orlando and then transfer at Orlando Health/Amtrak and take SunRail down to Kissimmee. You'd still need to take Lynx Line 55 from Kissimmee to WDW, though.

      I’m a Tampa native that has lived in Atlanta and utilized the metro transit system, with that being said Tampa is so far behind when it comes to rail which really sucks , especially when Tampa once had one of the best street car systems in the country before the 50’s

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber Год назад

      It goes down to that general area on its way to Kissimmee, but the closest stop is all the way at Meadow Woods which is 13 miles away from Disney Springs and even further from the WDW Transportation Center. They'd need a bus service to do that. Or alternatively build a rail line from Meadow Woods to the WDW Transportation Center (and make it 3ft gauge pulled by restored or custom built steam locomotives pulling open-ended coaches just as Walt Disney would want it), but that's unlikely to happen.

    Sunrail honestly kinda baffles me. It's a full heavy rail service along a single north-south corridor through Orlando, that doesn't actually stop at any convenient locations and only runs on weekdays. Honestly, Orlando would have been better off with a tram network.
    But at least the trains themselves are nice.

    • @ViewFromTheCheapSeats
      @ViewFromTheCheapSeats  Год назад

      The trains are really nice. Agreed about the stops along the way. Orlando really needs an expansion of train services as CFL continues to boom population wise.

      Sadly we had an opportunity to vastly improve public transit, which is badly needed, but it overwhelmingly lost at the ballot box in 2022 because people did not want to raise sales tax by 1% (50% of the funding was going to come from tourists and the tax wasn't going to be applied to basic necessities, but people still voted against it).

    • @VestedUTuber

      They probably could have lowered that to a 0.5% increase if they took funds out of the budget for political campaign ads.
      ...yeah, the incumbent governor is allowed to use taxpayer dollars for that shit in this state.

    • @enjoystraveling
      @enjoystraveling 26 дней назад

      I agree that a lot of the stops are not useful. . You need a car in the parking lot or if the shuttle has a good schedule at the train stop but there are a few useful ones such as in winter park you can walk from the train stop to the part of Winter Park that has the restaurants and the museum And two other ones like that
