I’m Ghanaian and our food is similar except we call their soups, STEWS and our soups (pepper light soup, peanut soup, etc) are more liquid based which we eat with a smoother textured fufu made of cassava. Also puff puff is a fried snack/dessert. We call it bofrot. You can make it with sugar, flour, butter, milk, eggs, nutmeg, etc. Similarities but differences across the continent 🙂👍🏾

Now for the other one that Sas is holding its called "Eba" and believe it or not we make it from what you all would call yucca, but we Nigerians know and call it Cassava yam. Like the Amala its Harvest and peeled and left out in a sun dry. But the color doesn't change. After they turn it into power, but this process take a lot longer then the other because they still will have to dry it and roast it before it can be made into what you are now eating. It must be roasted so as to make sure there is no sign of Sinai Poisoning which some foods as well all know and can admit from different countries if not prepare properly can make you sick, other wise. But I assure you %10000 this will NOT harm you in any way. Because of the Preparation, processing, and care that goes into creating it. Now this "Eba" is mostly eating with okra soup which can be cooked in many ways, you all just had one version of it. Or it can also be eaten with our vegetable soup we in my language call "Efo" and there are many different types but my personal favorite Efo with melon seed soup also know as (Eguisi) and the Red Stew also know as (Obe ata)

Pounded yam with egusi or vegetable soup may be easier on most Non-Nigerian palates because of the yam's similarity to mashed potatoes in taste. The Nigerian fufu (with slightly sour taste) and amala (more on the bland side) may take some time to acquire taste.
This is why the soups and stew are quite savoury and delicious, to provide a balance in taste.

A few tips to help enhance your experience:
Of course, you’re free to eat whichever way you want BUT:
    - puff-puff isn’t a main meal and doesn’t go with any soup 😂
    - neither of those are fufu. Lighter one is called eba and goes with all 3 soups. Darker one is called amala and will only go with the okra soup. If you had pounded yam (fufu), it’ll go with all 3 soups.

This was brilliant. I am from South Africa and it is so interesting for me to see traditional foods from other parts of Africa. There is so much culture and diversity in Africa. It will be incredible to see foods from multiple parts of Africa. it will all be completely different. If you ever do South Africa, make sure to get the following:
Mains - Boboti, Bredie, Peri Peri Chicken Livers.
    Desserts: Milk Tart, Koeksisters

Aww you two are so sweet and watching you eat this was fun haha!
The deep fried balls (puff puff or African doughnuts) are actually eaten as a snack hence they're sweet. The recipe is exactly the same as doughnuts but shaped differently as the better is slightly runnier and then deep fried.
They're usually not eaten with fufu and soup haha! Imagine eating noodles with jam doughnuts lol! But it was cute watching you two try to figure it out, even funnier when you bet it was the fried version of the fufu. At the end of the day, if you enjoyed it with the soup then of course you can! New trend 😀.
Okra is like Marmite to some, you either love it or you hate it lol especially because it's naturally slimy, though some cultures fry them in batter to avoid the slime. I like okra and a lot of babies I find like it lol!
Well done you two for trying out traditional African food 😍😍! Enjoy
