Hello Bruce! It's Howard Petrella here. My wife and I just started investigating moving to the Ajijic area. What a great surprise seeing you interviewed. Sounds like you love it there. Congratulations! I'm hopeful we can join you down there soon. Our friend Dan is moving down there in November as I understand. But you may already know that. Great to see you on RUclips. Very cool interview.

Loved hearing how Bruce moved into the community; volunteering at the Dog rescue. Amazing journey! Can’t wait till I am able to move down. How about doing a video on the orphanage on the West end of the lake.

Oddly Bruce, we are similar including living in the NW. I am a retired disc jockey and traveled from Portland to Canada. I truly miss not being able to say in town for a longer stretch of time. My day will come :0)

Excellent suggestion! We have mail forwarders here Lakeside such as IShop Mail and Sol y Luna but how secure they are I cannot tell you but I'll dig into it and see what I can find out. Thank you for the kind compliment.

I live in the US and I disagree with you crime is not worse here. You need to stop misinforming your viewers. The state of Jalisco has a crime rate that has only increased in the past year. Your viewers need to read up on the local news before deciding to move to that area. You folks on RUclips are doing a disservice to any ex-pat considering moving to the Chapala region. My mother-in-law lives in San Juan Cosala and she is in the process of selling her home to head back to the states. Her main reason is that she no longer feels safe living in state of Jalisco.

I am sorry to hear that she feels she needs to move back to the U.S but at least we have that option. Yes, if you look at the crime statistics, Jalisco has a high crime rate. The majority of this is cartel related (like the cartel that is hunting down police officers in their homes in the state of Guanajato right now) and is totally outside of the daily living (lifestyle) that we as expats have. I really thing that distinction needs to be made. But no one is forcing anyone to come down here. For those of you reading this, please, stay at home if you feel safer.

You should have asked him how he felt about the yearly reoccurring dengue outbreaks in the area? And more importantly, how he can feel so safe with crime and cartel activity on the rise. Please keep these interviews honest for the sake of anyone considering moving out there.

Dengue can be a problem and as you say is worse every few years. I don't think we have any way of knowing if "cartel activity is on the rise". The cartels have been well established for many decades but we don't see any of it on a daily basis. I'll bet if you ask a 100 expats how they feel about safety because of cartel activity they would probably say it's a non-issue.

I feel safe and secure as long as you use common sense. From what I understand about Cartels, they are not interested at all in crimes against Expats. On the contrary, they discourage crime against us.

Where do you live? Cartels are in every country. Crime in the US is much worse.
