Hello. Thanks for watching! Yes, generally speaking yards are small. There is only so much land squeezed between the mountains and the lake. It is why we see so many dogs on roofs in the villages. As we move out from the villages however, we get larger lot sizes typically 700-800 sq. mtrs. People who have 2 or 3 larger dogs generally purchase in these areas outside of the villages. In the area of this video, Riberas del Pilar, lots are typically 350 sq mtrs. This particular one, as you noted, is a double lot.

No, the bars on the windows cannot be opened, only the terrace doors bars. Fire is a non issue here. All buildings are brick and mortar and there is no chance of fire in these buildings.

Much talked about topic both here and on social media, most of which is hype, fear and ignorance. Bottom line is no one really knows the state of the aquifers. Have we had Wells run dry in the past? Yes, and sometimes new, or deeper wells need to be made. Is the area running out of water? No. Let's keep this in context too, that last years rainfall was the worst in 10 years and nothing untowards happened. This year, we already surpassed our yearly average and we still have 4-6 weeks rainy season. Mostly what you hear on social media is fear because the area is growing and there are more demands placed on the water supply. And some if it is deliberately put out there to keep other expats from coming because there are those who want to keep this place to themselves 😮.

Thanks for watching. I addressed the higher cost of the HOA in the video towards the end. Sewer and garbage is included. I think water is metered but I'll check on that for you. The biggest costs are the common pool, all garden area maintenance of your home and common areas and manned guard station at the entrance

Lake Chapala has had extensive studies done on it and many scientific papers. I did my own research in 2020, gathering as many papers as I could find on the internet and coming to my own conclusions. I have written about my findings in a chapter of my book "The Ultimate Retirement Guidebook To Visiting And Retiring To Lake Chapala" My analysis revealed there is some pollution in the lake. Too much for swimming in? No. The reason why this is not really a swimming lake is because of underwater hazards which cannot be seen in the opaque waters. Underwater vegetation, stumps, branches, wire fencing, and fishing nets. If swimming is really important to you then Lake Chapala is not for you. It does, however, offer a world class bass fishery kayaking, and water skiing/wakeboarding. There is even a community dedicated for such activities. However, if the lake has underwater hazards such as underwater vegetation, branches , wire fencing, and fishing nets that cannot be seen in the opaque waters, how can it be worthy of kayaking, water skiing, and fishing? @@newvision101 It's an excellent question. These are predominately near shore hazards. So if you had a boat to row out a ways you would avoid the majority of these hazards and be able to swim safely (other than the possibility of sunken nets). Most people think of wading into the water and start swimming which I would not advise. Kayaking is for the most part very safe to do and the kayak club is very active. Water skiing (Lake Chapala has been on the water ski competition circuit many times) is also done in waters away from shore. Fishing is excellent because of the underwater hazards. Largemouth (black bass) are the main sport fish and are predatory creatures who like to hide in the tules or any sunken cover to ambush their prey which is charales and young tilapia. I'll point out that this type of fishing is done with very heavy line in order to yank the bass out from the cover before they take the lure into the branches/cover and break you off. The fishery is world class!
