Great video! Will be looking into the Prevail 3. Have you done a video on your drivetrain lube/wax preferences? I think that would be helpful since you put in some pretty awesome mileage on all your bikes.
Really appreciate all of your video's. Very understandable language/terminology and explanations for someone like myself who though isn't a gear head or seeped in the biking world is considering jumping into the deep end of the pool with either the SL7 or the R5. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on selling the SL7 as I haven't road tested it yet only the R5 which I did enjoy. Cheers!
Thanks Gerry! Time will tell if the SL7 goes- it’s just so good.
Great reviews!! Thanks for the insights!!
Thanks David!
Great advice thank you keep it up bro !!!!!
Thanks Jose!
great video. I can't wait for another Melee video. I wish you would compare it with the new Cervelo Soloist. gotta get the gold one though. Sorry but it's sick.
The Soloist looks so good. I’ll try to get my hands on one.
I suffer a lot from heating and sweating from my head. I have a Kask Protone Icon but I have been looking into the Prevail. Since you’ve tried both would you say the Prevail is substantially cooler than the Protone?
Agree on the choice, just recently got the Protone Icon and a few rides in and already feeling the additional ventilation. For the past few years I have been on the Aero helmet train, with the Met Manta and HJC Furion. I haven't seen any less perf than the Aero lids so sticking to the Protone. BTW, your team kits are outstanding. Can you do a segment on that please !
Ravin, thank you! Just published the kit one yesterday.
I have the prevail 2 and it’s an amazing helmet still! But I’ve been finding myself wearing my Oakley Aero helmet. I love their adjustments system better than any other helmet out on the market.
Nice! I haven’t tried one of the Oakley helmets, but I like the look.
Thanks for the video mate. Any chance we can see winter kit??
You’re welcome! Add arm and leg warmers and you’re looking at the winter kit :) It just doesn’t get cold enough here to need a proper winter kit.
Being a Specialized fan, I went to the bike shop to try the Evade 3 on. The fit didn't come out as comfy or as nice looking as I thought.. The pressure points on the side was too much for me and I didn't want to up a size. I immediately went to the Prevail 3, but then wanted something else to compare in terms of looks. I then grab the Kask just because it was in white color. I honestly didn't even know it was called the Protone Icon. After I put that on, I knew Specialized ain't going to earn my business even tho I ride a Allez Sprint. I spent a total of 40+ min looking at these helmet and the conclusion becomes clear to me that Kask won my business
Hard to go wrong with the Protone- it just fits well. I've had other helmets with pressure points- not worth it.
Wonderful review! I'm currently looking at the prevail or the kask. Out of those two which one would you say has the "lowest profile"? Or what helmet on the market has the lowest profile in that matter?.. I'm looking for quality, safety, budget is not a concern but also don't want to look like I'm wearing a cooking pot on my head. Haha thank you in advance
The cooking pot look is totally in right now. Seems like the Protone Icon has a lower profile but slightly less ventilation. If you value MIPS, go prevail 3. If you want an all-around helmet, Protone is a good choice.
Lucas, check out the Limar air pro mips if you want low profile. Dont own one but saw one at a bike expo a couple of weeks ago, very nice helmet.
Selling your "go-to" bike seems hard to do. My condolences lol. I've been on a helmet hunt for a couple months. I like the Met helmets but you may have changed my mind. Thanks for your great videos my friend.
I've heard wonderful things about MET helmets. I'll try one at some point.
The shape of the Specailized helmets looks great when you look at them and does not fit my head at all. Neither do the the kask. So I opted for the ABUS airbreaker and it looks dope. I have two colors of the later
Yes Indeed..Abus airbreaker and game changer are some of the best shaped & best fitting helmets on the market..they don't have that mushroom look on the head..
Interesting. The Protone is one of the best fitting helmets for my head. Seems to work well.
The air breaker is a good looking helmet. No doubt.
I just tried on the POC Ventral MIPS (M & L) and Kask Protone Icon (M & L). The POC M seemed right at the cusp of too small, the L was too big. Same deal with the Protone Icon, however the fact you can’t adjust the “Y” part of the strap that goes around your ear on the Kask is mind-boggling to me. Both sizes it’s a bit too snug around my ears. I’m trying to get my hands on an S-Works Prevail 3 to see if the sizing works out better for me…… 57.5 cm head.
How'd the Prevail 3 work out?
@@outdoorbros_ I had Specialized Santa Monica *special* order one for me (get it?) - came in yesterday. It’s perfect. I’m a few clicks from “fully open” but a nice fit. First big ride at dawn tomorrow! Excited to try it out.
@@billfrigo7602 What size in the prevail 3 did you get?
@@masondahl medium. Works perfect.
I’m a MTB’er and just got my first Gravel Bike (Crux). I chose the Prevail 3. For me the 5 star rating and airflow made it an easy choice.
IMHO none of these helmets are good choices for MTB riding. They just don’t have anywhere near enough coverage on the lower part of the back of your head. This is a type of injury that is much less common on road, but falling or landing backwards is a real possibility on MTB terrain.
Fair point. Which helmet checks the boxes for you?
@@outdoorbros_ I think if you are going to be mountain biking I would look for a helmet that had similar coverage to a POC Kortal race, Troy Lee A3, Fox Speedframe, Specialized tactic or for light XC and gravel duty the Kask caipi (no mips etc on that one).
Thoughts on POC helmets?
I haven’t ridden one, but I like them!
2 of 3 pretty good. Definitely not as much of a Specialized fanboy as some. (Apparently this came out just before the Giro Eclipse Sperical?) I have an evade 2 which is cool enough for NC summer heat and humidy on a windless day. So as for cooling I find that spec a distant second to aero and overall comfort. I used a Kask Utopia as well and didn't have any issues with cooling. My head did not like the brow padding though. Those two little points at the front dig in after about 30 minutes. After 5 hours it's almost a bruise. But never once did I think my helmet needed to be cooler while riding. When it's hot, it's hot. When I stop, it comes off. What's the big deal with making a helmet that doesn't really do its job so it can market itself as "coolest?" Pass.
I had the same issue with the Utopia- unwanted pressure points kept me away.
Any recommendations for Asian round head shape?
Ummm, I’m not sure. I’d check out a shop and see which ones feel best. I
I had a Specialized (and tried on various) which aren't the best fit. The Kask helmets I have found to be the most comfortable for my head shape so far.
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
Thanks for reaching out. Lighting is pretty good on the car- thanks.
is this a specialized commercial, this is a fake test. It's an commercial. Even an s-works logo at the background.
Nope. Just me. The new video have an Enve and Reserve box. Check ‘em out!
@@outdoorbros_ i bought one two weeks ago. Was the best for me
@@EPoel-vg8ci which one did you buy?
@@outdoorbros_ specialized one
And all 3 are ugly styling. Sure they are 5 star safety but if they are ugly then I'm not wearing them.
Which helmet isn’t ugly, in your opinion? Quite subjective here.
@@outdoorbros_ Met Trenta 3k Carbon and Abus Airbreaker.
