I love a compass bezel, it's something I can use. I feel like it connects me with the universe too
I have the night vision, the strap does break in well.
It is comfy enough to get worn to bed and I can read the time until dawn or it's time to get up, so it does the job.
Back in the early 2000s, I got a Black Monster and Orange Monster when every watch forum nut was getting them. The lume was my first taste of Seiko's Lumibrite, and it was astonishing. It spoiled me for almost any other brand's lume application, making flaws and spottiness in other brand's lume glaringly apparent. Interesting how Seiko is now competing with itself to create the thickest and longest lasting lume. The Night Vision lume looks super.
Oh yes, that was my start too, and the gen 1 Monster is still on my top favorites list, I don't know how many I flipped before finally settling down on it.
I also remember the next stage, the Monster mods!
Seiko knocked it out of the park with this night vision line.

I scratchbuild my own watches (I don't sell them), and I use the Turtle case for most. I find it suits every look except Subbie-style. This Night Vision is the Seiko that Seiko should have made ages ago.

These look really sleek and I noticed that my NV Samurai's crown screws in and out really smoothly like premium watches do. But the new lume isn't really better than the ones on the other Samurais. It also takes longer to charge up.

As someone who as admittedly fallen out of love with Seiko as brand and would easily recommend Hamilton/Tissot/Mido over them, at this point lume is the only thing they offer as a company that places them above their competition. I don't find that to be enough, but it's cool to see this new innovation.
The bezel insert is my only complaint too, but I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one regardless

The dimensions of the tortoise are perfect in my opinion, nice and short lug-2-lug. Do you know what the dimensions are for this “slim Willard” you mentioned?
41mm is all I'm sure of. But it will wear smaller like a 39mm and we will talk about it in the video.
Don't understand your concern with the compass bezel, can easily be mentaly converted to minute hashes as opposed to directional hashes.
The gap between the case and spring bar is way tight. Haveston canvas straps I bought to match don’t fit, just the super skinny cheap NATOs fit. I’m going to have to get some curved spring bars.

Nice review. The compass bezel can be used for Sun orientation navigation, but I too would prefer a 12 bezel.

I use dive time bezel to time every day things. Like how long have I been working out. Or baking something. It is really useful for daily activities.

Can you confirm the case is DLC coated and not PVD with DiaShield (like the most recent Black Series)? I can't seem to locate specifics anywhere.
Seiko told me all prospexs are DLC not PVD.
@@EscapementWatch Thanks for confirming.I'm very close to purchasing this piece, but the compass bezel is putting me off. I did reach out to Long Island Watch and mentioned the cult following the Tortoise has, so maybe Marc will put out a timing bezel for it in the near-term.
How durable will that black stainless steel be? Is it a PVD coating?
It is DLC so should be pretty strong but of course it will still scratch

How much can I trust that 200 meter specs? Is it a screwed in crown?, I do spearfishing up to 25 meters,... Will it be good for that?

4R seems to be better than 6R most of times in accuracy
I have noticed this as well and I have looked at many seiko's on my time grapher not just on the channel
