    WW2 was going to happen anyway. The Treaty of Versailles made it a certainty.

      I don't think it was the treaty of Versailles that tipped tipped it into happening. I think it was the French occupation of the rhur and the Weimer Republic's hyper inflation that really caused it

      @@jgrj52 The Treaty of Versailles was certainly the catalyst of the beginning of WW2. The Rhur/Rhineland occupation only occurred because the Weimar Republic couldn't repay its debt and war reparations. The allies and especially France knew this but decided to give the Germans another moment of humiliation. The occupation certainly wasn't a peaceful affair and that bred a environment of hatred and revenge.

      @@jgrj52 The hyper inflation was a direct result of the treaty, the Weimer Republic was so bankrupt because of the war reparations that the government decided to print a lot of money to counter it's bankruptcy and it didn't work for obvious reasons.

      @@jgrj52because of the Treaty of Versailles many country who lost had to pay fine towards the winners and their lands got occupied. Bad economy, Destroyed lands, hatred towards each other and so on. Another war was already so obvious that one of the French 🥖 generals, Ferdinand Foch said : "This is not peace. It is an armistice for twenty years."
      Edit : thx to the commenter who told me that Ferdinand thought that the Treaty is too linient not harsh. My comment original comment contains a bit of confusion.

    What's to say if he had...
    There would have been another by another name but his actions may have been more extreme
    No one wins a war we just loose alot of people whom had families and friends just like that of ours
    To have compassion for people who may have killed your friends beside you now that is a battle many face and fail, to allow a man to retreat and live now that is called honour for humanity and life

      @@luggy9256 Stalin was never on our side he basically made an arrangement similar to that of 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend', as he and Russia were invaded with the Nazi's occupying Stalingrad. As he felt threatened by them and could see his own reign being taken over.

    Next vid, talk about Desmond Doss. A religious pacifist who refused to touch a gun. He wanted to b an combat medic, a healer not a warrior. But his commanding officer and comrades thought of him as a coward, since the medics r both warriors and healers. And yet Desmond saved 75 men and earned the Metal of Honor.

      Especially in such a brutal and bloody war as this one, and, how during the 1st world war there was really no "bad guys" because everyone lost so much. It's actually staggering how by the 1940s the world was not only in another war, but it was an even further and far more bloody war for everyone involved.

    That's a very square look upon the hole human interaction stories.
    Imagine if not this one British soldier, but more people were kind and compassionate throughout the history, a small gesture as providing some kind help or even a piece of bread or a good advice, things could go very different also.
    Human history and society is too complex to derive simple moments into the greatest of consequences.

      Yes. Look up the Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler incident. Long story short, Franz Stigler spared Charlie Brown and his crew because their bomber was crippled and barely flying. Decades later after the war, they became best friends.

    Well, the Germans would have to deal with the Treaty of Versailles. Another man could have taken control and would have done something, whether good or bad, to end the Treaty. So, there could have been a WW2 anyway, just with a different leader with a difficult approach

    I had Heard a story just like this, A mechanic was helping a stranded motorist change his tire.
    He know the men was none other than Einstein, but what he didn’t know is that Einstein was on his way to meet with Oppenheimer to develop the atomic bomb. I doubt that this minor inconvenience would have prevented it but it makes you think.

    I mean he probably saved more lives than he cost. The amount of developments in health, safety and medical treatments made during the war or due to the war have saved hundreds of millions of lives.

      But those developments would have happened anyway, just at a slower rate.
      So suggesting any kind of figure in that why is pure speculation.
      It is most un-likely that WW2 saved more than it killed.

    Every action have cause and effect. He may have had saved a man from death but he brought upon an age of terror. Then again how he might have known that an act of compassion would have brought so much misery for others.

    i like the idea that if someone was to go back in time and prevent the Holocaust, or WW1/WW2 for that matter, that something far worse could have taken place. The idea that these wars, the Holocaust, the nuclear bombing of Japan, D-Day, Pearl Harbor- are all the best possible outcome for our timeline.
