Ed Marlo did quite a lot of Faro work long before the Steves and The Darwins came on the magic radar. I have also found faro work limited to controlled performing conditions of a formal magic show, rather than table hopping. Simply because the deck has to be in faro condition or broken in, unlike table hopping where in bars and restaurants and strolling at a cocktail party, where decks are abused by audience members and the performing conditions of real world magic performing, of dealing with audiences that want to shuffle the deck at odd times and they have solid hands, also spilled drinks are common under real world conditions. And if I may add, if you don't read the classics your missing a large part of a full magic education.

Pretty sure he's lying at some point. If the reds truly were at the top with the blacks at the bottom, and you alternate cards from the top half with cards from the bottom, you'd get a red, then black, then red and so on - not a perfect order by suit.
I believe we hear it so much because he uses the same base routine piece, same phrases, but just changes up which cards he uses, and even then, its usually the aces anyway. It's a good phrase

What on earth are you talking about? It's clearly edited, there are dozens of cuts in this video between various camera angles. It's impossible to say whether it was a single unbroken performance or not (it's possible but my guess is probably not) but it's certainly dead wrong to say it's unedited.
Something I really appreciate about your routines is the attention to visual aesthetic… especially at the finale, with the arrangement of suits laid out on the table, together with the cards held in your hand. The presentation is so clean that I doubt you would ever need any anti-microbial spray or sanitizer.
One of my favorite episodes of Gunsmoke is about a woman Faro dealer. Like all dealers back then, she kept a handgun under her table. I love the Faro shuffle. So many uses I’ve honestly lost count, and it’s much easier to perform than riffle stacking (and is also far more accurate). It’s perfect for a plethora of magic tricks and demonstrations. Every serious magician should learn a perfect in faro and a perfect out faro
Thanks for this little demonstration. The struggle I have always had, with the Faro shuffle, is breaking the deck into two completely equal packets. It took many months of continuous practice to master the Faro. I also studied writings by Marlo and Paul Gertner; who have different approaches to the Faro shuffle.
Demonstrating a move or a technique as a teacher, is not a form of entertainment. Neither is using a magic trick to put across a political point or a religious point. Magician entertainers just are suppose to entertain, teaching is usually done by want to be's.
This beautifully performed routine should be part of every lecture in magic, 'cause there is so much to learn in it (besides of how to do a perfect faro). Besides the perfectly executed sleights, it's a beatuyfull example of "beeing one step ahead". Taking a principle, that should be well known, but is overlooked or forgotten, even by the initiated and inaugurated. Setting the stage, wrapping it all in a nice story and filling the gaps with moves, that make it possible for the audience to believe, that something like this could be done. The perfect use of sleigts as misdirection, instead the use of misdirection for covering the moves. Just wonderfull! You deserve eight perfect Bravos!
I been playing cards for over 40 years ! I can do some basic shuffle routines to fool my friends - always kept my self ahead of the game, lol. Your skill level for me is unthinkable. You appear to defy mathematics. I am not sure if your starting point was a stacked deck, however. Mind blowing skill level and handling of techniques. RESPECT MAN !!!

You make it look so easy to do this Shuffle. Please could you let me know if you are using fully plastic playing cards? I've been trying to do the Faro Shuffle now for around 8 weeks, I'v used new Bicycle Mandolin Playing Cards, new Richard Turner Gold Seal Rider Back Playing cards and new Aviator playing cards, the best I've managed to do is 3 perfect faro Shuffles in a row, even more perfect single Faro shuffles over this time, most times i just can't make this work and now I can't do it perfectly at all with these cards. If you are using full plastic cards not just coated plastic cards then perhaps this is why I can't do this Shuffle. But I've seen this Shuffle done on youtube with the cards I have so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I need to be able to do 6 perfect Faro Shuffles in a row to do the trick i want to do. I'm thinking it might be worth getting another Richard Turner Gold Seal pack of cards and perhaps put some clear nail varnish along the end edges which might make this edge slide more and will possibly stop the cards from getting damaged. Perhaps the Copag fully plastic playing cards might be worth trying but as far as I know it depends how the ends are cut to whether they will be any good for this Shuffle I would have thought.

I really want to think that the cards were in a very specific order at the very beginning and you just did a bunch of faro shuffles, but you are just too good. You are a card controlling master and it's super fun to watch! I have no idea how you pulled off that last trick
Having a Bicycle deck of cards is pretty important. The quality of the deck makes the cards slides and the deck almost does it by itself. You still have to cut the deck exactly in half, and push the two halfs against each other. You can try different ways of pushing them together, with different angles, but when you get it, the deck does it by itself, swear to god. In my first day, with the right deck, I already could do a Faro with 2 or 3 mistakes... Not sure if it helped, it has been a long time since it happened and it is quite amazing how the deck makes a huge difference. Used a Bicycle Seconds deck.
^what he said, really any uspc deck will do, bicycle being the best for your money. With the right application the cards will want to faro with near perfect results in the first few tries

The deck is already on numerical order and obviously hes not shuffling the cards hes doing a perfect split shuffle to cut the deck in half and then reshuffle it perfectly back again, the only thing I wasn’t able to get is how he changed the position of the 4 cards, that was amazing!

Well, I don’t want to give too much away, but I think the most accurate answer is: when I look at each one to memorize the card, I’m remembering the location of the first one and then for the other three, the location relative to the cards I’ve already remembered.

Correct grips, correct pressure, lots of practice...it's a tad too complex to explain in a short comment. One thing: if you start the weave, and you get a "double," you can't fix it. You have to unweave and start again.
I've watched like 10 videos and i still can't do the faro shuffle... I'm really hoping this will help this isn't a tutorial but it teaches you what faro shuffle does, so yea it helped me in a way 😃👍🏻
This is almost a trade. Requires filing the edges of the cards to be able to locate by feel. And obviously requires thousands of hours of practice. Bravo.

Because what tells you is not real, it's misdirection.
And if they're by suit, the next shuffle wouldn't (just) sort by number, it would alternate the suits.

If you do 8 faro shuffles the cards return to their original order so most likely the starting order is what he showed at the end

4:20 Is it possible to make the trick work without fake cutting the deck?

Mind=blown. Amazing video. Curious; at what point in the routine were you able to memorize the position of the cards to control?
Well, I don’t want to give too much away, but I think the most accurate answer is: when I look at each one to memorize the card, I’m remembering the location of the first one and then for the other three, the location relative to the cards I’ve already remembered.

How do you avoid shuffling pairs? I often get a few cards that are two together and not perfectly faro shufflrd
Correct grips, correct pressure, lots of practice...it's a tad too complex to explain in a short comment. One thing: if you start the weave, and you get a "double," you can't fix it. You have to unweave and start again.

this isn't a tutorial but it teaches you what faro shuffle does, so yea it helped me in a way 😃👍🏻

It’s called the “up the ladder” cut.
This is almost a trade. Requires filing the edges of the cards to be able to locate by feel. And obviously requires thousands of hours of practice. Bravo.
