  • A tight posterior chain and especially tight glutes can cause a lot of trouble to the hips, knees and especially the lumbar spine or lower back. In this video I look at several different ways to stretch the glutes and discuss how to find what the right type of stretch that works best for you.
There is no such thing as one "best" exercise or stretch that works for everyone. We are all unique with our anatomy that what works well for one person will cause problems in another. In this case it is wise to have several options to explore so you can find what is going to be just right for your body.
I always say the best exercise is the one that delivers the best results with the least amount of problems.
Anyway I hope you enjoy this video.

I love using the stretch with the band at the end of the video and it really helps to not only improve my hip mobility but helps to improve my stability and strength.

There are a number of reasons for this but mostly this is due to inactivity and sitting poorly too often. A lot of people develop a posterior tilt of the pelvis from slouching which keeps the glutes in a shortened position. Hips very easily develop stiffness from this too which inhibits the glutes from firing which is where weakness forces the body to use stiffness. Add on top of this poor training techniques, poor movement development as a child and you have the perfect recipe for glute stiffness. Most of this would be resolved if we did not have cars and had to walk everywhere and did more manual labour. Unfortunately, that is not the case so we need exercises to combat the problems that modern living creates. I should make a video about this as it is a good question
