I used to wash dishes and bus tables at a restaurant by an airport in ‘06 when I was 15, I met him while he was having some food waiting on his next flight. I had never met a celebrity before and realizing instantly who he was I was nervous to bus the tables around him while he ate. I guess he picked up on it and asked me if I was okay. I told him that I was nervous because I had never met a celebrity before and I was a fan of gangsters paradise. His energy was so different than I had expected. We chatted for a minute or two and it helped my nervousness so much. Never forgot that day nor will I ever. He asked me what there was to do around my city and I told him and then I had to get back to work. He patted me on the back and told me to keep my grades up and even tho I was working, to not let it effect my grades. He was such a down to earth dude that day. Like a friend you could hang with or something. I told all my friends and they were so jealous lol. RIP Coolio, getting older and seeing my childhood heros pass never gets easy.

He wasn't the most dynamic rapper of his generation but like Tupac his words carried emotion and a realism which really brought his big personality out on records whether it be a darker track like Gangstas paradise or some of his more funky tunes, his legacy is set in stone and will live on through the ages. RIP Coolio 🙏

His Howard Stern Acapella was amazing. I'll never forget his voice. We lose all the unique ones. Coolio and ODB was my obsession growing up. RIP.

Gangstas paradise was one of the first rap songs I ever heard in my life , growing up in Mexico not even understanding the words but loved the beat and flow: thank you Coolio for introducing me to hip hop

If y’all didn’t know, LV, the guy on the chorus, made the original version of “Gangster’s Paradise” after “Passtime Paradise.” It’s why he’s on song, also.
One of a kind uplifting Artist, so much fun and positivity in his music which is by no other rapper to find. Coolio with the flow for me was the best Rap Artist ever.
He was an old school and unfortunately he didn’t know anything about streaming fraud like younger generations. This guy was a legend and every view and stream he has is genuine. That’s why he was in financial problems. That’s sad.
Coolio and WC rapping together back in the 90s will forever be stamped in my brain. I Remember willalways be one of my favorites. RIP big homie
One of the moments that brought me to respect Coolio in recent years was being a mentor for a short while to the mega-hiphop group BTS, who are now the biggest most popular band, in both KPop & not in KPop, in the world right now, & that's not a stretch. He taught them a little bit about history, fashion & then some words of inspiration ...

@@Sezz-Bo ... Yes, BTS is a hiphop group, but they also do about 15 other genres of music, including R&B & pop. Hiphop/rap is their main style though since debut nearly a decade ago. And most of their songs are in their native home language.
As a native of Inglewood, California, I've been to a few Coolio shows and respected him. I never did like Gangsta's Paradise which 'cause a lot of arguments and my class. But I luv Fantastic Voyage, 1, 2, 3, 4, Too Hot and countless others.. Respect 🙏 Coolio for showing luv to 2Pac while Pac was incarcerated in Tupac's video - Temptations... The man made some timeless bangers, that's for sure. gangsters paradise literally never gets old. I grew up listening to that song after coming to the US and it still feels just as fresh as it did back in the 90s.

One reference in Gangsters Paradise where he subliminally says the fact is where Coolio says " I'm 23 now but will I live to see 24foe the way things are going IDK'? If Coolio wrote this he would of been much older at the time. In 2pac coincidentally not would of been this exact age. Truthfully Coolio either dropped a heavy 💰 for these verses or what I think nowing Pac it was cuz he messed N respected the OG.

Gangsta's Paradise was originally an L.V. song, his idea, he wrote the hook. That is what Coolio first heard when he walked in his producer's house. Coolio always gave L.V. credit for this.
Also this video should have mentioned Coolio's crew 40Thevz: Wino, Billy Boy, Lek Ratt, PS, Spoon, DJ Fatbox (RIP), Malika, Shorty of Da Lench Mob (RIP), Rated R of Thug Life, and Ras Kass. They deserve their due. So much talent forgotten 🙏

I worked in a high fashion store and he came in about 2 months before he died. It’s was like 1pm and he was drunk af. He was screaming on the phone on speaker and couldn’t stand. He was being really distrusting and creepy towards the female staff. It was really hard to see him like that
