  • In my opinion the humble Leatherjacket is underrated as table fair. These "bread and butter" fish are easy to catch and great on the chew. You can see how easy they are to catch.

Great video Ed. Leather Jackets are great eating. I use to catch some huge ones with my brother and dad over the other side off the break wall at the end of the airport runway.

Probably the most underrated fish in the ocean and once you work them out one of the easiest to catch . I never knock back a feed of jackets !

Good video. Thanks. There used to be lot's around the rocks here. Guess they're still there. Have to give it a go. You kinda forget about the good old Jacket. Guess they're great at hiding out. Lol

The old Leatherjacket is great table fair in my opinion, is easy to clean and not hard to catch. It's an underrated fish.

I was there Tuesday last week, down behind that green shed, caught a 33cm Jacket, first fresh fish I've caught to eat in years. On a prawn lol

Congratulations on your catch. Leatheries love prawns but so do the pickers. Try a tougher bait like squid or the harder part of cungie for constant success.

@@letsgofishing3249 Yeah was certainly a lot of littlies, Squire and Bream, the Leatherie was the only one I could keep.

What part of the tide do you reckon brings them on? Great video clean n cook would be a good follow up vid . Thanks for sharing.

The last of the run out tide is the best I think. I'm thinking of incorporating a clean and cook in some of my future videos. Cheers.

Sure, I had a short hand net that didn't get much use so all I did was get an old rod that had the tip broken off cut it ti size and riveted the butt end of the rod to the handle of the net.
What you end up with is a lightweight long handle net👍

Another nice video, Ed. Nice editing. We’re you using two cameras? I remember as a kid catching Leather Jackets from piers in Sydney Harbour, with a cork hand line, and always a long-shank hook so they don’t bite you off. 🤓👍🎣

Thanks mate, I am using a new editing software. I was using two cameras that day. It's surprising how many fishos started out as kids catching these fish👍
