  • To kick off our 11th anniversary in 2023, we interview one of our distinguished Padrinos (a Godfather royale), Jorge Oliver in his role as Co-producer on the documentary feature of John Santos that kicks off the Pregones/PRTT "2023 March Is Music" with the New York premiere screening of the documentary feature, "SANTOS - Skin to Skin" an amazing San Francisco percussionist whose life has been driven by salsa music and his journey as the child of parents from Puerto Rico and Cape Verde to evolve as educator and mentor in the field of Afro-Latino music.
    This Puerto Rican-born artist and administrator extraordinaire, Jorge Oliver came to the U.S. first as an actor, Producer and then educator and today stands tall as the Dean of the School of Art at the Pratt Institute (Brooklyn).
    "Santos - Skin to Skin," is a documentary about San Francisco-based percussionist and “keeper of the Afro-Caribbean flame,” John Santos. Filmmakers Kathryn Golden, Ashley James, and Jorge Oliver follow their subject from rehearsals in his garage studio in Oakland to performances at local community centers, gigs in Puerto Rico, and stages around the U.S. Playing alongside a stellar cast of international jazz musicians, including Eddie Palmieri, Paquito D'Rivera, Omar Sosa, and Jerry Medina, John links the rhythms of his ancestors to contemporary struggles of identity and social justice.
    For over a decade, TíoLouie is founder & Executive Producer of PRIME LATINO MEDIA, largest network spanning the East Coast to the Caribbean (Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico) of independent Latino multimedia-makers, actors and musicians in bilingual Latino and mainstream media, digital and entertainment.
