To make my life easier and program a lot of Sonoff basic switches, I made small jigs to help me with properly aligning the pins from the various USB to Serial adapters that I have.
Since all of these USB-to Serial adapters come with a different pinout, it is always tricky to mess with wires. Although doable for a single device, if you want to flash a custom firmware, like Tasmota, to more than one switch, then this process gets lengthy and frustrating.
The jig that I made, helps quite a lot since all you need to do is to plug it into the serial to USB adapter and make sure that you align the 3.3V power pin correctly. All the rest will then be right and connected as they should.
This jig is made out of prototyping PCB and some male and female headers and anyone can easily make it with some basic soldering skills. Check out the video for more details and level up your Sonoff game with easy programming.

Thanks @struthless for organizing this! #alphabetsuperset
Home automation with tasmota will be interesting. Thank you.
It sure will! I'm experimenting with it now so stay tuned for a video once I figure it out!
So you made two jigs and modified one of your USB-to-serial adapters? Neat!
Thanks. I wanted to show multiple options depending on what people might have.
@@TasteTheCode Cool - wrote it up on Hackster, so wanted to get the details correct.
Also, perhaps you inspired me - finally flashed a Wemos D1 mini with Tasmota that I'd had hooked up to my garage door opener for a while, but was not working. I think I'd programmed it in Arduino some time ago. Now working, so yay, though getting it to work like a momentary button was a bit of a pain.
Wow, thanks! That is super nice! I also had issues with some of the latest Tasmota versions not being able to connect to WiFi, but older ones worked straight up. I think it might have to do something with the bootloader version but I did not had the time to explore it further.
@@TasteTheCode NP, happy to! Getting Tasmota to do what you want is simple it seems IF you know various tricks - like I had to put the switch in mode 14 I think and set the pulsetime.
I guess there is a document somewhere with all the modes, right? I'm looking at the MQTT part of connecting them now so I really haven't looked into the details of how they behave, but I'm guessing they are quite flexible.
