I bought a coconut palm that is vertical in a pot. The leaves are almost 2 ft high. I want to try to make it into a bonsai, but I prefer that it is horizontal. Would I be able to put the plant sideways? Would the leaves then go from being horizontal to pointing straight up in the air? Or should I just leave the plant vertical? Love your videos! Thanks
Hi Sean O,, Im afraid that it maybe too big to be a bonsai now.. It will grow into a tree as its too late... Normally we suggest to manipulate the growth from the first sprout in the shell.. You will need to get one that has a small growth at the moment Thank you for your support..
Thanks for your response. We live up north. Indoor setup. We bought two Malaysian green dwarfs with the leaves that are almost 2 ft high. We bought three grocery store coconuts (no husk) 6 weeks ago, they haven't sprouted yet. Is it worth trying to make the Malaysian green dwarfs into bonsai's, or would it just not work or kill the plants? I read in your description that only certain types of coconut can be made into bonsai.
Actually any soil is okay with coconut bonsai if you think about it coconuts grow almost anywhere so the real challenge of the later part of the coconut plant is fertilising them because the soil eventually lose its nutrients.

Would it damage the plant if you snipped all of the leaves off and leave just the centers shoot?
Gud eve. Ask lang if it's ok to use loam soil instead of garden soil? Thanks.
