  • As an idea of M. Massimiliano Bonelli of FISAS, supported by M. Viviano Crimella, and inspired by the Ring used in the past at the FISAS Meetings and the Pressure Tests lessons developed by Andrea Lupo Sinclair, the Iron Quadrangle has been first tested in the FISAS Salle of Milano, then now introduced at the FISAS International Meeting.
The Iron Quadrangle is a new and exclusive exercise to simulate fighting under stress while testing the ability of the participants to maintain form and technique, and could be considered an alternative to the tournaments, according to FISAS' philosophy of research of style in a reality based situation.
The basic rules here experimented are :
All participants must wear full protective equipment, and all weapons must be inspected for safety before the exercise.
Participants are allowed to choose any weapon. All hits are accorded by the judge, so they have to be clearly visible and significant. Fighting is to the first hit, and participants have to leave the quadrangle if they are hit. On a hit, or if a fight continues for more than 30 seconds without a hit, the judge may introduce one or more additional fighters to the quadrangle and designate a target. Attacks to the back are not allowed under any circumstance.
Overly aggressive behavior, or behavior which is deemed dangerous by the judge will result in a warning or expulsion from the exercise. As noted, the Iron Quadrangle is not a competition with an overall winner, but an exercise for all participants to test themselves under stress.
